TAGGED: maggie!! ---WHAT awoke him was the rustling. luca stirred and flipped over on his stomach. he ran his arm across the sheets searching for his wife. nothing. luca opened his eyes. the side beside him in bed was empty. he groaned, where was she? he pulled himself out of bed and looked at the digital clock next to him on the table. 3:30 am. "what?" he said to himself. he rubbed his eyes as he stood up. the rustling was getting louder and as luca got up, he saw that there was a glow coming from the kitchen. the loft was second nature now. he got the rundown loft when he first moved here to valkyrie. he got the loft because it sat atop an abandoned store space. five years ago, luca was delusional. he was a dreamer that thought no-- believed, he could have both a mob life and a personal life. his personal life being his love for photography. he wanted to have his loft and fix up the store downstairs and make it into an art gallery. somehow, luca had lost both the loft and the abandoned store when he left for boston. when he came back he saw that the store was now a real art gallery and the loft looked more like a home since he occupied it or the brief months he and maggie shared it.
but it was going to be different from now on. maggie and luca were back together. like, together-together. all the months of luca being back and them trying to work things out finally happened. there was a breakthrough. maggie was pregnant. and they weren't just having one kid, they were having two. twins. luca was still trying to wrap his head around it. but he was excited, more than excited. he felt like this was what he was supposed to do all along. he was supposed to have a family, and when he thought about it, he only saw himself having a family with maggie. he knew, he wasn't exactly a relationship guy when he was younger. he didn't like dating, he didn't like girlfriends, and he really never could see himself marrying anyone. looking back, he was actually glad that he was forced into the marriage. well, he may have been forced but in the end, he wanted it just as much as she did. funny how things worked out that way, wasn't it? but now, luca had plans. he bought a house. more specifically, he bought maggie a house. he knew raising two kids in essentially a one-person loft was ludicrous. to be like a family, they needed to live like one. luca was still trying to find the right time to show her the house. he just hadn't found it yet.
he wanted for things to cool down. a couple days ago, the italians had hit the russians and hit them hard. they got china wok to explode with some help from bomb expert, kale barker. luca had been in the center of it all and even got to talk to stanislav, the russian boy that had been getting in his way ever since the russians came to town to reside permanently in valkyrie. fausto didn't like it so no one on the italian side liked it. so they did what they had to do. it was the most public and violent hit a group had done on another group in awhile, and luca had been pleased on the way it had turned out. the aftermath though was a different story. the press was all over this, and the police were scratching their heads with their thumbs up their asses so the feds were called in. luca had been in the loft most of the time since the bomb had detonated to keep up on the explosion on the television. of course, no one really didn't know anything besides the press categorizing it as a "gang-related" attack. luca had taken a mental note that kale barker was completely untraceable. luca knew that the russians weren't going to say they were the ones that were going to china wok, though by now, some of the bodies had been "allegedly" connected tot he bratva. so it was only a matter of time when the investigation would start poking around the italian member's business, but luca had always expected that. he was too far up on the food chain to know this incident wouldn't be connect to him and really? he was fine. nothing was going to come out of this and if it did, it wouldn't be for decades. this explosion was just going to have it's own file and placed in the giovanni filing cabinet with the rest of the incidents no one was able to pin against them.
luca found maggie at the fridge. the rustling coming from here. luca turned a light on and squinted his as his eyes adjusted to the light. "baby, what are you doing?" he asked and walked over to her. "it's 3:30 in the morning. come back to bed," he said and pulled her hand so that she would follow him, but she wouldn't budge. he knew when she had the babies they'd most likely be up all night for months on end. so he decided they needed all the sleep they could get. they had already started making piles in the living room with baby things like clothes toys and cribs that were still packaged in their boxes. the living room that had been spotless with furniture and the flat screen tv. now, it just looked crowded. they needed the new place. it would be a good move for them. plus, luca wanted to get maggie out of the loft because there was too many bad memories tied to it. sure, it held good memories, but the bad ones just were too strong. luca didn't want to stick around either. he wanted that fresh start where they weren't followed by their past.

pregnancy. what a bitch. maggie hadn't had this much of an imbalance ever. the only thing she could really compare it to was the time she'd been dosed up on drugs. she'd been high as a kite so much so that everything had pretty much felt like an out of body experience. everything had felt wrong, everything had been wrong, etc. she was feeling that way more so than ever now but there was nothing she could do about the cravings and the impulses. they were like ants crawling under her skin. the only way to ever soothe them and put her body at ease was to give in. but the cravings kept on coming. the weakness kept on coming. every time she could do nothing but to give in to a dosage that she couldn't control. it wasn't like she was taking a needle to the arm or the neck all over again. it wasn't like she was under pressure from some outside force to do something she couldn't ever see herself doing. no this madness was of her own making. her dosage came internally as a force she couldn't stop if she tried. her body was trying to consume her, or at least force her to consume something else entirely. her body wanted things that maggie wouldn't usually want which meant it wasn't in great supply around the loft. that bothered her to no end. she'd woken up with some serious cravings that she couldn't fight. granted she'd tried. she'd tossed, she'd turned, she'd bitten her tongue in an attempt to squelch the cravings but they were there and they were maddening. like little mosquitoes biting her all over her skin, it seemed to writh because she wouldn't give it what it wanted. all maggie really wanted to do was sleep but as long as she was forcing herself to stay in the bed and do nothing about the stomach-turning madness going on her in head, well sleep was pretty much not going to happen in the slightest. maggie knew that if she wanted anything she was going to have to get up and get it for herself.
now if only they had what it was she was looking for. she'd eyed luca as she'd made her best attempt to sneak out of the bed. she was driven by nothing more than her cravings. she had to have something, she just didn't know what and it was bugging her so ridiculously she could hardly think. she'd eased his arm from around her growing waist, making it easier for her to sneak away, and padded into the kitchen, doing her best to quietly open up the cabinet doors and find something to soothe the itch. there was something in this house or in the world right now that was going to put her at ease and she had to hope that it was here. she really didn't need to be some pregnant woman wandering the streets in search of...well...something. she opened up the doors, carefully pulling boxes and opening up containers, sampling food to see what really hit the spot. after her fifth cracker maggie realized she wasn't having any luck here. she packed away the first few boxes before another pang of craving his her and she said screw it to putting things away. she could do that later after whatever it was that she wanted was eaten and she could go back to sleep. she fished for more, wondering if the random can of soup would tide her over. she settled for reading the ingredients on the back and nothing really called out her name. nothing sounded good enough to open up the can for. nothing. after about ten minutes of scouring the kitchen maggie was getting frustrated. she was finally starting to pinpoint what it was she wanted, even if she couldn't put her finger on it or couldn't pinpoint the name. she knew she wanted something salty, almost fishy...ew. maggie had never, ever before liked something fishy and the fact that she now wanted that was weird-ing her out. at the same time she wanted something sweet. she didn't want fruity, that much she knew. she wanted something cloyingly sweet. something cavity inducing...candy maybe? but what kind? and she wanted something with a crunch. damn it why didn't cravings just show up as an item in your head. why did you somehow have to go about searching for what it was you really wanted and turning up with nothing more than disappointment.
she was in the process of raiding the fridge when she'd heard luca's voice. crap. well...maybe he could help her. she'd been digging for a few minutes and all she'd managed to successfully do was make her hands cold and wake her husband. she felt the tug on her arm but ignored it. did he not think she'd rather be in bed? she was bound to not get a lot of sleep after the babies were born so wouldn't it be ideal to get it in while she could now? she would have loved to be in bed but cravings didn't subside in bed. cravings subsided when you ate something and that just wasn't happening right now. maggie slammed the refrigerator door shut in frustration, probably looking more haggard than anything. "i can't sleep. i can't sleep. i can't sleep!" she said with a frustrated scoff as she tugged her hand from his. "there's nothing right in this damn house. nothing. i need...i need. you." she was making no sense and she didn't care. see how many fucks she gave. "store. you go. i want something fishy...sardines. get me sardines...and candy...chocolate. screw candy i just want chocolate...and pickles...i want pickles." she carried on as she hurried into the bedroom portion of the loft, throwing a robe at luca as well as his shoes. yes she was sending him out into the night with nothing more than his boxers, his shoes, and a robe to save his innocence from prying eyes. "go. go!" she said practically pushing him to the elevator, jamming at the button a million times over until the lift finally rose and she shoved him inside. "thank you." she said hurriedly as she closed the doors that would then send him down.

TAGGED: maggie!! ---LUCA knew that they were slowly transitioning into a different phase of their lives. they were starting to grow up. they had already been mature apart. at their young ages, they were doing things normal people didn't - and couldn't - do. but together, they were always a little less than mature. crime, the business, and violence, that was what they were always good at. relationships and working together were something that had to constantly work on. luca knew that this would continue. just because they were going to have kids in the coming months didn't mean that everything was going to come easy for them. they weren't seeing dr. banks on a regular schedule anymore and luca knew that the doctor probably thought everything was magically healed because she was pregnant. luca recognized that, but he knew that it couldn't be like that anymore. would he have liked to forget about everything and say they were good because they were now having the babies? well, yeah. but, they both liked to hold grudges and from now on, luca wanted to settling everything right when something came up.
luca tried to coax maggie back to bed with no avail. she was on a mission and luca knew he wouldn't be able to sway her opinion. she slapped the fridge shut, dissatisfied of what was in there. then, she started to pace and saying how she couldn't sleep. despite being extremely tired, luca was about to tell her that he would stay up with her until she grew tired again. the good thing about their jobs was that they could make their own hours. luca usually went in early, but the world wasn't going to stop if he went in at noon. suddenly, she was looking at him wildly, and not in the way he might have wanted. maggie started saying what she wanted, food. "sardines and what?" he asked trying to catch everything she wanted. chocolate and pickles? "you want all of it? together?" he asked as she disappeared for a moment. all those foods sounded quite disgusting combined. she came back out with shoes and a robe and threw them at him and started pushing him towards the elevator. "right now? you want me to get it right now?" he barely had time to grab his wallet and keys off the counter as she shoved him in the elevator and sent him down a level. he shoved his feet in his shoes and drew the robe around him and tied it tightly across his chest. he looked homeless shuffling towards the car. he started the ignition and started driving, trying to remember what she wanted and trying to find out what place would be open at this hour. he went a couple blocks until a twenty four hour gas station. it'd have to do.
he parked and got out. he approached the 'no shoes, no shirt, no service' sign, and was glad maggie had the decency to give him both before shoving him out of the loft. when he walked it, it was only he and the cashier. the cashier was a woman, probably a little younger than maggie was. she looked at him and his appearance and probably thought he was there to cause trouble. he held up his hand. "my wife is pregnant," he started. "she sent me out to get her food." his voice was even and controlled, dismissing that he was a drunk wandering around town. the cashier smiled. "anything i can help you with?" luca was guessing he'd be her only customer until at least five am. "yeah. she told me she wanted sardines, chocolate, and pickles... i think that was it." the cashier, who's name tag read emily, walked down an aisle and started picking thing up for him. hey, he was fine with that. "she'll probably send me back out if i don't get something she likes." emily came back out with a couplet ins of sardines and a jar of pickles. luca noticed chocolate bars on an end cap and got a few hershey chocolate bars, some m&ms, a kitkat bar, and a three musketeers. "here, you should probably get some ice cream," emily said and led luca back to the frozen foods. "good idea." he grabbed a couple pints and carried back up to the front. "ok, i think i'm ready." emily started ringing everything through and he handed her cash when she read him the total. "thanks, you were very helpful," luca said and grabbed the bags off the counter. "no problem. hope you don't have to come back," she giggled and luca nodded. yeah, he hope he didn't have to either. he climbed back into the car and drove back to the loft early.
heaving all the bags in his hands up the elevator, he maneuvered the door open with his shoulder and foot. the lights were still on and maggie was still up. he was half-wondering if she would have just passed back out on the bed by the time he got back, exhaustion catching up with her. "you owe me. i'm pretty sure i just bought out the entire gas station." he put all the plastic bags on top of the counter and started unpacking everything he bought her. "i think i got everything you wanted. might of improvised a little." he pulled out the couple jars of pickles, the tins of sardines, every brand of chocolate bar, some chewy candy, and some ice cream, a couple different flavors, of course. he bagged all the bags up together and threw them in the trash can. "wait, wait," he said before she could dig into the four am fiesta. he walked over to her, cupping her cheeks with his hands and kissed her. he pulled away for a moment, looking at her. "just had to do that before you get sardines and pickle breath." he let go of her face and got some silverware. probably more awake than she was, he sat down next to her. "so, what's first?"

maggie knew that she was acting completely and utterly insane. she wasn't proud of it. luca had seen quite a few of her more irrational moments and they'd always seemed to get them into more and more trouble. still she couldn't really help it if her body craved something that they didn't currently possess. she was just happy to have somehow pinpointed what it was she needed. truth be told maggie wasn't a huge fan of sardines or pickles. she of course died for chocolate. the point was that the babies were making her body crave something it never really had before. she'd done the whole fish thing. she'd eaten sushi and whatnot and though it was good it really wasn't her go-to food of choice. but it was off-putting to realize that they had that big of an impact on her needs. it was like they tugged the strings and she was nothing more than their puppet. it sounded fair. she'd brought them into this world and they were made to consume hers. there wasn't a cut off point for being a mother. even if you only cared for them physically until they were eighteen the bond wasn't then just severed like a hunk of meat you could cut with a knife. that bond was going to be there forever and maggie was going to sacrifice herself for them any time they really needed her to. it was a strange sensation knowing that you were willing to give it all up for them.
maggie was a stubborn woman. she knew what she wanted out of life and what she could accomplish. she knew that she had brought more of an onslaught of drugs into the community than the giovanni's could have ever dreamed. she was shipping enough to keep up with a rising demand and she was still managing to evade the police. it was like the business spoke to her. it was everything to her. she could practically feel when something wasn't running as smoothly as it should and she would make a change. she was always testing out new theories and always staying ahead of the police. she was always evolving and always adapting and it was for that reason that she had become such a huge success. maggie's father never wanted to admit it but she was born to control this business and now that she had, now that she had created her own little niche, it was hard to let that power, and more so that complete and utter understanding of something that meant so much to her, go. she didn't want to. she didn't want to give up her life's blood but she knew that if it ever came to the moment when her children needed her to give it all up for their safety, she would do so in a heartbeat. luca didn't need to know this and luca wouldn't. maggie didn't trust him with that kind of information honestly. she didn't trust that he would believe that she could do it when the time came and would settle for her giving it all up now and she was in no mood to be bullied into making a life-altering decision. they say alcoholics, drug addicts, sex addicts, etc never change unless they truly want the change and that same thing could be said for maggie. the drug business was her drug and she wasn't going to ever let it go until she was the one to make the decision. otherwise it would just never happen the way luca wanted.
she'd relaxed only a fraction while luca was gone. knowing he'd be back with what her body apparently needed tended to help to put her at ease but she was still jonesing for what she'd sent him out for like a crack addict. she knew she was being ridiculous but she needed it and she needed him to hurry the fuck up! she practically jumped out of her skin when she heard the elevator moving once again, her skin crawling as she forced herself to remain seated. she only stood once luca entered the room, meeting him at the counter as he began picking items out of the bags. she was so happy to see the food there she thought she might cry. she reached for a jar of pickles before she heard his voice. her eyes pulled away from the feast, but barely, as he leaned in to give her a kiss. "hardy har har." maggie grumbled, managing to give him a thank you smile in the end. at his question maggie had to look at all the food before her and sigh, "not sure yet." she said as she popped the lid on a jar of pickles, smelling the sharp vinegar smell and smiling. that was exactly what she needed. "thank you." she said gratefully as she took a fork from him and stabbed a pickle, taking a bite with a grateful smile. "oh my god that's perfect." she said with a groan as she leaned into him, her head resting on his shoulder. "i love you."

TAGGED: maggie!! NOETS: blah. this is crap in a hat ---THE way he saw it, it was better if he did everything maggie told him to do. it was one thing to ignore a non-pregnant maggie, but he knew better than to ignore a pregnant one. now from now until the babies were going to be born, luca was literally at the beck and call for maggie. it's not like luca didn't want to do it, he just wasn't used to it. they had really stressful lives and that really wasn't a good thing for someone who was pregnant, so if luca could relieve some of that stress, of course he would. luca knew it was impossible, but they should really teach their kids to make maggie crave food at a more reasonable hour because luca liked sleep and he just wanted to drag maggie back to bed with him instead of going to a gas station to get her food. he could have totally of done this at like seven am. if he could push it, nine. but the sun wasn't up yet and he felt like he should still be sleeping. oh, but while he was at it, the twins should also change her cravings because sardines and pickles? ew. he could get behind the ice cream and chocolate, but he was shaky on the rest.
how did you know when you were ready to be a parent? they both knew the pregnancy was never really planned. a mistake sounded harsh and an accident sounded careless. it just... happened. maybe they were still a little young. they definitely were still working on their marriage. maybe in a year or two, when they were completely stable again they would have started to try to start their own family. but, this happened for a reason. luca had been talking to his parents a lot. because even though he wanted to know when you were ready to be a parents, he wanted to know if he was going to be a good parent. they were never questions that had been answered. in fact, his parents tended to laugh and say things just come together and that 'he'll know.' but, luca just wasn't able to believe them. then there were days where he would be working and soon numbers and names would blur together because he was thinking too damn much. so, he'd leave and walk a few blocks down to find violet at the art gallery. maggie and he aside, violet wasn't ready to have a kid at sixteen years old. but she never had an answer for him either. she'd wave him off saying how good he had always been with rocco and that she didn't name him godfather because he could take a pretty picture. luca would think about this. yeah, he was always pretty good with rocco. he remembered that night when he was babysitting rocco at the loft when maggie had called him drunk at a nightclub. that night felt like ages ago. maggie was good with rocco as well, but she was always good with kids.
maggie rested her head on his shoulder. "i love you." luca smiled and leaned his head on top of hers. "good. because i love you too." after a few moments he lifted his head back up and reached for some of the candy bars. "well, looks like you aren't the only one gaining weight," he told her and chuckled. "too bad you didn't crave... lettuce or something." he sat the candy bar aside. he looked over at maggie still eating her pickles. god, he loved her. probably more than anyone could try an comprehend. luca turned slightly and reached for maggie's legs, pulling them over his lap. he squeezed her calves. "do you think we're going to be good parents?" he asked her. he could see the baby stuff spilling all over the living room. so much stuff, so much he had to put together in this small loft. luca already bought the house. he was planning on taking maggie to it later in the week. he wanted this russian thing to blow over because what luca wanted to focus on was them building their family. decorating the rooms, putting together the cribs, stuff like that. things that normal couples did. he didn't want to be constantly thinking what the retaliation was going to be on the russian's end. because the giovannis were talking and they knew they opened a can of worms. luca looked back over at her, hands still around her legs. "i've just been thinking a lot, that's all." he shook his head. "been talking to vi, my parents, fausto. they all say the same thing, which is always nothing. i'm just over thinking things right now." in their lifestyle there was never a good time to raise a kid, let alone two. his dad wasn't in the mob when he was raising luca and benny. vi's dad wasn't in the mob when he was off in italy raising her. just seemed like everyone had been on breaks, and well, that was just never an option for luca and maggie. they were far too in it to walk away and the thought never really crossed luca's mind.

maggie wasn't proud of her current hunger-driven eccentricity. she didn't like that she'd woken her husband up with her scrounging and them within minutes of him being brutally awakened by the noises and flickering lights she'd caused then being shoved out the door to fetch her the food she couldn't seem to find in the house. she knew she loved him for a reason and that was first and foremost because he put up with her when she was like this. it didn't just happen when she was pregnant and maggie knew this and yes there were a lot of occasions where he drove her mad with his male-driven stubborn attitude and old-world way of thinking. there were a lot of things about him that she didn't like but when push came to shove there was a reason why she loved him. she loved him because he put up with her and her crap but mostly because, hand to god, he loved her more than life itself and gave her very little room to doubt that. a lot of the trouble they'd had lately had stemmed from her fears. she knew that. she wanted to deny it and blame it on him but really it was her left over fear that he would walk out on her again, this time leaving her with two children to take care of. she knew that the likelihood of him actually leaving her was slim to one. her fear often made her turn things around on him and blame him. she wanted to let the past go, honestly she did, but the fact of the matter was that what he'd done had hurt her and broken her trust and things like that took a while to get over. they weren't things that could be easily forgiven. luca was lucky she was forgiving him because she honestly wasn't the forgiving type and had it been something other than him leaving her behind to go be alone and miserable in another city like cheating he wouldn't be standing here today. fact of the matter was that had he been happy being gone from her in the slightest then he would have been dead because no one leaves magdelena giovanni in the dust for anything.
yes it was a matter of pride, but more so because she was his wife and she was there to protect him, comfort him, and entertain him the same way he had made the same committment to her. it bothered maggie that he sometimes felt like she couldn't protect him, especially when she was pregnant. she was the same person, she was just a caravan now, even if she didn't look like it yet. her ridiculous appetite certainly made her feel like a cow. she'd never had cravings this insane before and she really didn't understand any of it. must have been something particular she was craving like sodium from the pickles, dairy from the ice cream, or something. lord knows she had absolutely no idea why she was craving sardines of all things. "you can gain twenty sympathy bounds. you chunking out would actually make me feel better, seeing as how i'm going to be a cow." maggie said with a half-hearted chuckle. pregnancies destroyed bodies and twins meant double the risk. if it wasn't obvious, maggie was just a hint vain. she'd always had a pride about her looks. it had been one of the reasons why she wasn't dead already, because her father had used her looks to get the upper hand on people. hell her looks had been one of the reasons luca hadn't just offed her upon first meeting her. how in the hell was she going to work her magic now when she was sporting a tiger's worth of stretch marks, amongst some of the other "stretching" that was going to be happening to her body. part of it was more fear. she knew luca loved her but could he love her as a hormonal, sweating, swollen thing? she didn't want to believe it. she was thankful for it, but she didn't want to believe it.
"i think that we'll certainly try. it's not like we're in it alone. you've got a lot of people around you who had grown up and lived the life we have and who have successful families. i believe that if we ever have a worry, they'll be there for us. just look at vi." maggie pointed out with a smile. she had the utmost faith that she could do it, raise a family, in this business. it wouldn't be the normal situation but then again when had they ever, ever been normal? it wasn't in their blood to do things the way joe and jane schmoe did things and maggie was proud of that. "we're going to be fine." maggie said with certainty as she chipped off a square of chocolate and popped it into her mouth. "and don't you start doubt it. you run again i swear to god i'll hunt you down. your kids will know you, but only as the pelt that lines the living room floor." she joked...for the most part.

TAGGED: maggie!! NOETS: blah. this is crap in a hat --- LUCA rolled his eyes. she was always telling him that she was going to become a cow or a whale. he knew when they first had met, she was quite good at using her looks to get what she wanted. case in point, he found her walking around in her underwear in the dirtiest of apartment complexes. but, everyone knew she was pregnant. if she wasn't gaining weight, people would think something was wrong. "you're not a cow," he stated to her. "anyways, i gain weight, i become fat. you gain weight because the babies are getting bigger." luca took another scoop of ice cream. well, now he was just becoming hungry. the sun wasn't up yet, but it was getting there. the more he remained awake, the more 'woken up' he felt.
luca nodded. he had grown up in 'the life' and when he was younger he never knew how much danger he probably was in. his parents did a good job of keeping things away from him. he never worried about it in england, but life had been definitely different in los angeles. and he had so many cousins around his age, nothing happened to them. well, besides violet, but that had been resolved within a few days. yeah, violet was the first of the cousins to have a kid, but it was different. she was a family member, she didn't go beating people up in back alleys, or cutting off fingers for every thousand dollars they owed. "yeah, but violet doesn't have to wear a bullet proof vest to work, she doesn't have two guns on her at all times, and she hasn't killed anyone." luca wasn't dangerous to his own family, of course he wasn't, but things he had done in his past could screw with everything for his future. he didn't regret one bit of it, but he was luca and he was a giovanni, and his name was well-known to the underground crime world. luca though, had never killed for fun. as twisted as it sounded, he didn't seem himself as a murderer. his kills came from what was necessary to protect his family. he never thought about the people he killed, mainly because he never knew who they were, nor did he care. sometimes, you were just put into a situation that warranted a difficult decision. luca always chose the right one. but he did know that some of his actions might bring more danger. there were always two things people threaten. they threaten you with your wife and with your kids before they will threaten you. luca knew, luca did it himself.
maggie said that they were going to be fine and he gave her a half-smile in return. if she was confident in it, maybe he should be to. though luca constantly worried about some amateur asshole to come bursting in their loft. especially since they were soon going to be facing with some sort of retaliation against the russian bastards. it was all about the retaliation, and the giovannis were prepared for that. this was just the helpless period because no one knew when, where, or what it was going to be. sometimes it was worrying, but luca was even more worried because of maggie. he knew he couldn't disclose this with her, of course, because she probably would walk around the inferno unprotected just to prove a point to him.luca had finally learned to just shut up about things like that. he was thinking if he just stopped talking about it, maggie would stop arguing about it with him. so far, he had been doing pretty good. and another thing was her feelings like he was going to leave again. "one of these days, you're going to realize i'm not leaving. you wake up every morning and i'm still here," he told her. luca pushed the ice cream away and ran a hand through his hair. "you know..." he said and concentrated his gaze on the window above the kitchen sink. he rubbed the stubble growing on his face. he needed to shave. "i'm actually really worried about what those verrentenikov's plans are. i know we pissed them off, their retaliation could be very damaging to us."

becoming so big was in fact a huge worry for maggie. she just didn't like it. her looks had kept her alive more often than not and she didn't like the idea of putting on weight. even if it was for a good reason. she would rather gain for babies than for her own addiction to chocolate, but still. the average pregnant woman had children that ranged in size from 6-8 pounds. that meant that when they gained some 30-odd pounds in a pregnancy they had a ton they needed to work off. maggie was having twins. that meant that they would likely be smaller in size. didn't mean that she would be any smaller. yes, yes. she knew that the whole reason you gain extra is to pass it on to the child in breastfeeding and whatnot but she still just wasn't comfortable with it. she would never be comfortable with it just because it worried her so. luca wasn't vain. maggie knew that he loved her no matter what, more so because it was his children she was carrying, but it still just rubbed her the wrong way. the sooner she could give birth and hit the gym the better. she would feel so much better then. "babe i'm not going to be having a thirty pound kid." maggie said with a chuckle as she took another bite of food. "but thank you for trying to help." she watched him take another bite and inwardly smiled. it would make her feel a little better if he chunked out, if not just a sympathy thing the fact that other women could be a little less likely to hit on him if he wasn't some rippling piece of man meat.
she was nervous. not just about the pregnancy but about losing him. she never wanted to feel like she had previously again and she would do anything to never feel that way again. she didn't want to raise those babies on her own or worse, raise them between two homes. it was just something that would be a constant worry for her and worrying about raising the kids was bad enough. it tended to make everything else she'd ever worried about come to the surface. "no she doesn't. but she was raised in the life, even if on the outskirts, and only one major bad thing, if you could call rocco a bad thing, has ever happened. we know the business, we know what it's capable of, which means we can fight against it. we know how to protect our kids from the evil we work with at least until they're an age where they need to make a decision about their involvement. we know what we're doing luca. you and i know this business in and out and we know how to protect the people we love. i have no doubt we can do this." she shrugged her shoulders as she took yet another bite. she wasn't going to preach to him but she had faith they could get their kids through anything.
"i like being pleasantly surprised though." she said in response to him. she sighed a bit as he talked about the verrentenikovs. russian bastards. she turned to face him, reaching out and pulling him closer. she rested her head on his shoulder, her hands clenching around his back and just resting on his butt. "this is the life we live. would it make you feel better if i promised to be more careful?"

TAGGED: maggie!! NOETS: <3 --- HE had no doubt that they could protect their kids. he knew every parent had fears. parents like them though, had more to worry about. especially since he knew that those russians were ruthless in killing. they would kill a whole family just to prove a point, children and all. the giovannis didn't put hits out on children. he knew that maggie and he could protect the twins. it just sucked that they always had a dark cloud above their heads with what could happen. he was just worried, that's all. fausto was coming in today. under the radar though, because the don coming to town after the explosion would generate some interest from the police. luca even tried to tell fausto he would go there, but fausto said no, it had been a couple months since he was in town. alberto junior was on his way in, too. there were some things they needed to talk about regarding the russians. what was going to happen next? precautions would be made and protections would probably be on order.
"you like to be surprised that i'm still here?" he asked with a smile. maggie scooted closer to him and he pulled his arm around her when she rested her head on his shoulder. she said that she would be more careful if it would make him feel better, and he was actually surprised she said that. "for once you don't want to argue about it with me? hm. this is new," he told her and squeezed her arm. "i'm kidding," he said and kissed the top of her head. "of course it would make me feel better. luca pulled his free hand and put it around maggie's cheek and turned her face to meet his. "russians aside, we just have to make sure our kids come out healthy." he kissed her lips softly. "and it was sexy and cute waking up and finding you looking for food." luca kissed her once more with a little bit more passion and urgency but he stopped and pulled away slightly. "i should probably put the ice cream away." he smiled down at her and got up and out of the chair. yeah, if it was up to him he'd probably pull her back to bed with him, not to sleep, of course. but he knew maggie probably wouldn't be, with the pregnancy it hard. he didn't know whether it was the hormones or how she kept saying she looked like a cow, or a whale, or smuggling a dozen watermelons, because yes, he had heard it all by now.
luca put the lid back on the tub of ice cream and tossed it in the freezer. he glanced over at the living room where the explosion of baby stuff was strewn everywhere in the room. "we should really start organizing all the stuff over there," he said and nodded towards their living room. "or at least confine it to one corner of the room." he started putting some of the other food away because he wasn't going to make her put away the food he bought for her. "i was thinking. maybe tonight i could come to the lounge? we could spend some more time together." he asked her. he knew most of her employees hated him because of what happened. he was atoning for what he done to her and for the most part, yeah, they were over it. but it always seemed like her friends allie and bella, and everyone at the m lounge just hated him like what he did to maggie he did last week.
