SECRETS i'm not the biggest fan of the russians, cause my father was tied to them once when we came out here, and they fucked him over. so i've had a hand in trying to ruin a couple of the russian's heists before. nothing too big but enough to make them sweat. they knew someone was trying to mess with their deals but they have no idea who was trying to do it. my first burglary was when i was nineteen and it was this rich girl i went to high school with. she would always wear all this nice stuff to school, and when she'd had a party at her house in high school, we'd all found this safe that was in her parents room. after learning what i learned from my father, one weekend where she said that her family was going out of town, that's when i broke in. their safe was nothing like what my father had me practice on...much easier. there was a a red ruby necklace, a few grand, and a vintage rolex in there. took it all, and pawned it off at different places for money, and made out. took and pawned off the girl's pearl necklace that she always used to show in school. sad thing is that i don't even feel bad about any of it. | in depth |
PERSONALITY
i've never really had much of my own so i'm really used to making something out of nothing. it doesn't take much to please me, really. i'm pretty nonchalant, there's nothing really that bothers m too much, at this point in life i've just learned to roll with the punches. i'm really sarcastic, i just don't really like to take anything serious and i try to keep things light-hearted. i don't mind being alone really, things work out for me better that way. if anyone knew me too well, they'd definitely find some holes in the way i live. so i keep things usually at an arms length but i live normally with my dog in my apartment. i just have a really interesting job.
FAMILY LIFE
when i was born, we were dirt poor. like DIRT poor. my mother and father had no support from either one of their parents. my mother was disowned by her high society greek family for not only marrying someone who wasn't greek but someone who was also from 'the wrong side of the tracks'. so when my mother chose to be with my father instead of with her family, they cut off all ties to her up until they found out that she was pregnant with leo, and then again with me. they only offered her money for our sake and after taking money from them once and getting lectured and scowled at by them, my mother completely cut off ties with them. instead my father started his crime lord track and became a drug dealer eventually working up to a position of high respect and ultimately becoming a brooklyn druglord, but after being ratted out he fled the family to valkyrie, ca where he had a russian contact who promised to protect him. but eventually, he got sold out and was incarcerated when i thirteen.
i spent most of my childhood surrounded by some type of crime.

PARENTS/SIBLINGS
gabriel shohk - 48, incarcerated, and if you've seen the movie 'kick ass' and know the little girl and her father, that's me and my dad. he never wanted to involve me in crime life, but i caught him one day when i was nine practicing cracking a safe when he was still cool with the russians, and i wouldn't leave him alone so i watched him enough until he eventually decided to teach me. he taught me everything, not just about safe's, but about how all you have is yourself, and to protect myself.
abella nikols-shohk - deceased, - my mother always did have more of her high society self in her no matter how rough times were. when she saw that i was becoming more of a tomboy she desperately tried to push me in the girly direction. tried to dress me in more girly clothes, and enrolled me in dance classes taught by a woman in town that she befriended. dance i actually stuck with, i developed a love for it, and took marie's classes all throughout high school, as well as doing gymnastics. that's helped on my heists. i can thank my mom for being able to be light on my feet.

HISTORY
my father gabriel was born in ukraine but was brought over to the US by his parents when he was five, and grew up out there. his father worked in a factory on the other side of brooklyn from where we lived, and his mother worked at her family's bakery. he was definitely from the wrong side of the tracks as compared to my mother. growing up in manhattan on the upper east side, my mother abella was the daughter of a greek shipping company CEO, and the woman who was his high school love. my mother was one of those girls who was tired of the high society life, and one night her and her friends snuck out to a party they'd heard about in brooklyn and that's where my parents met. the debutante and the rebel was pretty much the story of them two.
they were together for only a six months once her parents found out about my father and where he came from and when they did they forced her at nineteen to chose between her family and the boy, but their confidence that'd she chose her family was broken when she chose my father instead. as hard a blow as it was to them, they cut off all ties until a year or so later they found out that my older brother leo was on the way and the offered to help her out. which she took, but once i came along two years later, they began to refuse help from her parents once they became more critical. and now without any financial support from them, my parents were assed out.
it was around this time that my father began dealing. it was only supposed to be a part time thing, but when they didn't have much else to do it became a full time gig. my father slowly but steadily became a top drug lord in the city. this went on for only about another year before someone ratted on my father and once word got out about we immediately cashed out and all got tickets to california after being told to come over by a russian contact he'd made whlie he was in new york that lived in valkyrie. we all up and moved out to valkyrie and were set up kindly by vladmir, my father's contact who eventually became like an uncle to us.
my brother and i went to high school, and he got into sports and excelled like my mother knew he would. my mother made friends with a woman in town who owned the local dance studio and i attended dance classes there for free for the rest of high school. i loved dance with everything in me. it was where i turned when my mother got diagnosed with cerebral cancer, and where i turned when it turns out that 'uncle vlad' ratted out my father to clear his own name. so my father was taken away from me and leo when i was thirteen and he was fifteen. this is around the time where leo immersed himself in school and sports while i sunk myself into dance, my classes and helping out my mother who held out for another year before passing away and leaving leo and into foster care's hands where we ended up staying until we were 18 when leo went off to college on a full scholarship to go pre-med and when i left i began my scholarship to art school in santa monica and began petty thief work.
my first big burglary didn't come til i was nineteen and back in valkyrie after dropping out of art school and working in the dance studio teaching classes instead. leo was off at med school by now, and called or visited every once in a while but never too much. i decided to rob this girl who'd been one of those rich bitchy chicks in high school. i'd remembered and wrote down everything my father told me in an old notebook and practicing on padlocks before i decided i'd be confident enough to go free range. i remember i decked myself out on all black the night i decided to break into her house; they were all away on vacation. black long sleeve, black leggings, black lace ups, black ski mask, black gloves. everything. slid myself in through the a cracked window and went in. snuck to the safe in her parents room behind the wanna-be antique mirror. could've cracked that when i was fourteen. took the rolex, ruby necklace, and ten grand from there, and the girl's pearl necklace.
it was my first ever legitimate burglary. i'd befriended an old man in town who was once a thief, and was considered crazy by most of the people of the town. he was always in the deli where i got breakfast and would tell me the stories of all the things he did without a care, it's like he knew everything. i learned more from him, and some of the most important things like backtracking my footsteps, leaving the same way i came, among other secrets. he must've died because he's not around anymore, but with as many successful trips i've been on he helped me enough.
i haven't worked with a lot of different people but i've aided in some other people's operation only threatening them to never speak my name or address me in public. i keep most of my work on the low and only do enough to get me by. i work with marie at the dance studio by day, she's going to leave it to me one day. my life isn't everything i've wanted, but it's enough.
