TAGGED: LIZ NOTES: meh... kinda short. i didn't want to ramble. --- AND the prince and the princess lived happily ever after. riley let tatum pick out the movie tonight. so of course she went for the latest animated princess movie with talking animals. riley didn't mind because whatever made tatum happy, he was happy to provide that for her. going to a movie had been a spur-of-a-moment thing. they had been in the apartment and riley spent the day grading english papers and tatum was playing dolls. so he asked her if she wanted to go see a movie and she jumped up and down saying she knew exactly what movie she wanted to see. he invited reed and regan to join them but they were both busy so riley and tatum were having a dad-daughter date night. at least that's what tatum told him as riley had locked up the apartment.
tatum had stayed attentive the entire movie even if the movie got out around 9:10 pm, which was usually well past her bedtime. right when the credits started rolling, she turned immediately to riley and started blabbering about her favorite characters and her favorite part, and if he remembered this one part. riley agreed and nodded and laughed as they walked down the stairs for the stadium seated theater. he threw away their drinks and half-eaten popcorn and tatum still talked on about when she grows up she was going to be a princess. people passing them smiled at tatum as riley and tate walked towards the main lobby of the movie theater. not that he wanted to compare his daughter to a dog, but she was like the puppy running down the street everyone wanted to stop and pet and say how cute it was. that was like tatum. it didn't take much for someone to want to talk to her, and tatum loved the attention, of course. she was half her mother, even if they hadn't seen coco in years now, coco was always one to get the attention of every person in a room. riley fitted his hat tighter on his head. he held tatum's jacket in his hand as she made her way through the lobby and stopped in the center of it. "tate, gotta put your coat on, it's probably cold outside." yeah, it was spring in valkyrie, but he didn't want her running around outside without anything on her shoulders. he looked out towards the door of the lobby, it was completely dark outside. "i'm not cold," tatum stated and started to turn towards the door. "hold on there," riley said and grabbed her hand right before tatum took off. she huffed and looked at him. "i don't want you getting sick, tate. do it for me?" another huff before she nodded and riley pulled the coat around her and she slipped her arms through the arm holes. riley picked her up, and settled her along his hip and walked out of the theater.
downtown valkyrie at night was still busy. there were always a ton of things to do because even at this time of night, a lot of restaurants and stores were still open. it also helped that valkyrie was a college town, so college kids were usually at the bars at night, hanging out, drinking, and having a good time. "daddy, i'm hungry." tatum pulled on his neck. "you just had popcorn, honey," he told her. tatum lifted her head off his shoulder. "i want chicken, daddy." riley laughed a little. "you want some chicken?" she nodded again. ok. riley looked around. he parked the car not far from the theater so he looked for a place that maybe wasn't far from here. he scanned storefronts across the street and noticed china wok. "how about some chinese?" tatum nodded. "can we get fortune cookies too?" riley nodded. "yup, they'll make sure we got some."
riley found a break in the street and strode across the street to get on the other side. he checked his watch. 9:17 pm. he didn't normally order food from china wok so he wondered how long they were going to be open for. probably awhile, riley wasn't too worried about it. he put her down when they got on the sidewalk and walked hand-in-hand towards the chinese place. "wait," tatum said and stopped. letting go of his hand, she bent over to tie her shoe. riley waited. "need help?" "no." riley watched as she did the bunny ears like he had taught her. "hey, daddy? when is kat going to come over again?" some of the things tatum asked... "i don't know. but i know for sure she can't wait to see you again." tatum smiled at this and finished tying her shoe. kat and riley had gone on their first date recently, and it actually went really well, despite riley being really nervous. but kat said she wanted to see him again, and riley was more than willing to see her again. she had told him that she worked for the government so that meant, really, she could have another job, or case, or whatever she had, at any moment, but riley enjoyed her company and if she would have to leave, at least he enjoyed the time he had, and maybe she would have, too. riley and tatum got closer to china wok and right as they reached the store front, tatum let go of riley's hand once again and ran past him. "liz!" she said and ran right into liz, throwing her arms around liz's legs. riley caught up to the two. "hey, liz. what's up?"

TAGGED: riz --- ELIZABETH HUGHES WAS WALKING ALONGSIDE HER OLDER brother Orion as the group of them made their way out of the Siren house. Liz had left Silver in the living room. Luckily Silver was a well behaved dog. He didn't enjoy being alone but really, all he would do is curl up on the couch and sleep or curl up on the floor and chew on one of his bones. Silver was a five year old golden retriever. She had saved him about two and half years ago. Not many people would want to adopt an older dog who also was missing a hind leg. There was a sort of kinship between the two. Silver had not hat a happy life. His first two years were spent with an abusive family, very abusive, which was why he was missing a leg. His previous owner had gotten angry and knocked over a large dresser on top of the dog. While Silver broke two legs from it, one was able to heal, the other was smashed into pieces and needed to be removed. When he was first at the shelter, Liz was told he was mean. Didn't want to see anyone, would snap at the staff trying to feed him. It took him months before he began to allow people to pet him, give him a shot, but even know, certain things set him off. Certain sounds will make him jump and go into defense mode, and he will defend anyone he loves 'til the end. It just takes him awhile to love someone. Now a days though, Silver was incredibly friendly, still had his moments where things set him off but over all, he was better.
Liz may not be the friendliest person in the whole world right now but she was better. She was abused, she was angry and anti-social. She would bite the hands of those trying to help her because she couldn't... wouldn't trust them. No one wanted Silver, and Liz felt like no one really wanted her. So she chose the older canine and his tripod style of walking. It suited. Liz turned around and pulled the front door of the Siren house shut. She locked the door with the specialty security key things Donny had invented for them before dropping her keys into the pocket of Kenny's old jacket. She jogged slightly to catch up with the group as they made their way downtown. They were heading to watch China Wok blow. Liz was so used to everything it was frightening. Personally, she didn't approve of the killing of innocents to kill the target. Luckily Kale always tried to minimize but still. Had the Italian's gone to someone with less control, there would probably be a lot more casualties. Kale always told them he did it because it was a larger challenge than just blowing the joint. Which of course it was. If Kale didn't want anyone to come out of the place alive, he could do it with a lot less innovative thinking. But of course, it was his inventiveness with his bombs that made him famous.
Plus, she had been anxious lately, bored, maybe? Not used to the honest lifestyle I suppose. Perhaps this would get it out of her system, not that she was involved in what was going down. She walked in back of Kale, Donny and Wid keeping pace with Orion. The five of them were all close but it definitely felt like it was Orion and her and then Widow, Donny and Kale. Wid, Donny, and Kale had like a little world of their own when they were together. A world Liz wasn't a part of. She watched them joke around a bit ahead of them. She used to be fun like that, was all she could think about. I mean, even when they're going through issues those three were just able to pal around and laugh and ignore the world. Liz was always trying to be responsible now, and while she couldn't bring herself to stop, she was driving herself a bit nuts trying to take care of everyone and everything. It was like she was the mother to a bunch of adults. And whether Liz admitted it or not, she had a maternal instinct to her. A psychological need to make sure everyone she cared about was alright twenty-four seven. She makes sure people aren't missing, she enforces the rules on Kale that keep him from blowing up the Siren house when they're not around. She does the laundry, and the dishes, does the grocery and house hold shopping, and is looking at possible grad schools, works at the museum, and finds time to spend with Riley and Tate. She hasn't had a lot of time for just carefree loose and easy, party down fun because at the end of the day she just needs to sleep.
Although, perhaps it's good she at least keeps herself busy. If she didn't her mind would drift to two things. Crime and her past. She would end up thinking about Kenny and Darren and Iz and just all the death and pain she had experienced or caused. All the damage she did. She gave everything to Widow and Donny because she still saw it as her killing Isabel. She killed Darren and while she never pulled the trigger, if she hadn't been so close to him Kenny would still be kickin' ass all over the streets of Chicago. If she was forced to truly rest up and have some free time to herself, she might begin slipping back into her depression. She took medicine for depression but it only did so much. The last time it had gotten bad was when Orion was in jail and she almost attempted suicide for a what? fourth time? So yeah, busy was good. It was exhausting and frustrating and strangely lonely but fuck, what's new?
Liz climbed up onto the roof of the building across the street as the group gathered around. "Shame all that orange chicken's gunna go to waste." Widow spoke sarcastically. Liz shook her head slightly with a small smile as she watched the street. They were all in danger. She took a step forward, what was going to happen in the street? It shouldn't be that bad... this is what they do... the Russian's kill so many and more and ruin families it'll be fine, went Liz's mind quickly. Out of the five of them, Liz had truly only killed one person and it was in self defense of another and she still felt horrendous guilt from it. I mean, of the five, Liz was by far the most innocent and the least okay with death. She took a deep breath before she saw what looked like Riley and Tatum walking towards China Wok. "Fuck" She muttered under her breath before checking her phone, 9:19 and turning towards Kale. "Yeah, spirits with you Kale but I'm gotta go save a life." She said before running quickly towards the fire escape they had climbed up. She climbed down quickly before making her way across the street, "Riley! Tate!" She yelled out to them as they stopped in front of the store and Tate came running towards her. Liz stopped running as the girl's arms wrapped around her legs, she bent down and picked Tate up off the ground and put her on her hip. "Hey sweet pea." She said quickly looking up at Riley as he joined them and asked what was up.
Liz nodded back across the street and reached for Riley's arm, "Come on" She said firmly and began carrying Tate across the street at an angle to the left away from the building. Kale designed it to blow more forwards than to the sides in order to not damage the buildings next to it too badly. Liz kept walking as fast as she could holding Tate tightly, "Quickly!" She yelled back to Riley, she pulled out her phone, 9:23. Liz shook her head and put Tatum down looking at Riley, they weren't going to get to complete safety but they should get on the ground so the blast won't throw them "No time, get down" She said to him, trying to cover Tatum from the angle of the restaurant with her back, making sure to cover the back of her neck as the restaurant blew and fire flew into the sky, the blast hitting them hard.

TAGGED: LIZ --- RILEY'S brothers always asked him to describe his relationship with liz, and every time he thought had the words that described it, he was lost again. she was his friend, he knew that for sure, but there was just so many other things that were there as well. riley knew he wasn't the only one that felt that. he was sure liz knew. when liz's brother orion told him that liz had died, riley felt like he lost something. he didn't even want to think that because there had just been too much that happened. he was there when she killed her older brother, riley talked her off a ledge, it was just too much. no one had effected riley as much as liz had on his life. it was like a hurricane, she came and all so suddenly she was gone. coco was pretty torn up about it as well. she was pregnant when they heard liz died and coco and liz had been friends. it was coco's idea to give tatum the middle name of elizabeth. it fit. and of course riley never objected to it. and then liz wasn't dead anymore and... well, that was a good day for riley. tatum adored liz, especially when she learned she was named after her. riley was happy that she was sticking around valkyrie because he just liked it.
"we were just going to get some chinese. wanna join?" he asked as liz scooped tatum up in her arms. but then, liz was pulling on riley's arm telling him to follow her. he frowned as liz started taking across the street. what was going on? techincally, riley should have caught on that something was going on or, something was wrong, but he had been so distant and being away from crime-related people that he wasn't even used to it anymore. he followed liz. "liz," he started. "what are you doing?" he looked back at the restaurant. nothing seemed dangerous. no one looked suspicious standing on the sidewalk. he waited for a car to pass and picked up his pace to catch up to liz and tate. "liz can you tell me what's going on?" he asked her. "No time, get down." riley stared at her. "what?' he said completely dumbfounded but when liz crouched down, covering tatum with her body. liz wasn't kidding around. riley crouched down then as well, not sure what he was trying to avoid.
he was crouched close to liz and put a hand around her back and an arm close to tatum. right when he wondered if the atomic bomb was going to touch down in the middle of the street, there was a boom, heat, and impact. maybe because they were already on the ground, there wasn't much they could do more but they still rocked a bit. "what the hell?" he said and turned around and stopped breathing. half of china wok was gone. fire was spilling out from it. he was supposed to be in there. he and tate were supposed to be in there right now getting food. and liz pulled them away from there. she... she knew something was going to happen there. riley and tate should probably be dead. he turned back around to liz. "tate, honey, you ok?" he asked. "are you ok, liz?" he asked and tatum looked up. "i'm ok, daddy." riley sighed with relief. he stood up and helped the other two on their feet. "whoa, look daddy!" tatum said and pointed towards the restaurant. riley didn't even know if she realized they were supposed to be in there getting takeout.
riley picked tatum up and held her close. he looked at liz. "i'm assuming you knew about this," he said to her. how else could she explain it? she pulled them away from the restaurant seconds before it was going to blow up. the smoke around the street was starting to clear and riley was able to see what had happened. the street looked like it was ripped out of a horror movie. there were people laying in the street. whether they were unconscious or dead riley did not know. tatum was craning her neck to look at everything, a scene she probably only saw in the action movies she insisted on watching with reed. except this was real like and he knew a five years didn't have to see this type of thing. "don't look, tate. just look behind me." behind them was another store. tatum, for once, did what she was told. "liz. what's going on?" he asked again but it was different than when he didn't know why they were walking away. china wok just exploded and liz knew it was going to. she saw them and prevented them from going inside. it was obviously crime-related but what, who, and why was unclear to him. the sirens started and riley looked tatum again to make sure she wasn't bleeding, even though she had been completely covered by liz. "are you sure you're ok, liz?" he asked her again to make sure. and then he looked back at the building. "i just can't believe it," he started. "i was supposed to be in there. we were supposed to be in there. thank you." he wanted to say they should be dead, but he didn't want to say that in front of tatum because riley was thinking for the most part, she was just confused. "i should start paying you every time you save my life." it was funny because it was true. liz really had saved his life on more than one occasion and riley owed her pretty much his life. riley breathed deep again, this was just unreal. there were other people on the sidewalk, like them, that were just petrified in place unsure of what to say. his thoughts were moving through mush and the only thing that just kept showing up in his mind was that he wasn't supposed to be here. he should be dead.

TAGGED: riz --- RILEY TURNER HAD SAVED LIZ'S LIFE MORE TIMES THAN HE could possibly know or understand. He had literally pulled her off the edge of a cliff when she had taken a step off. He had seen her at her worst, and yes, Liz did consider that to be her worst. She had wanted to die before then. The night she went to confront Darren, she had wanted him to get angry to the point of killing her. But Riley had been there too. She wondered if he ever realized that, if he ever figured out the real reason she went to LA that night. She was weak, Liz knew that, but she was trying. She was exhausted from trying, but she still was. And there was no way she was going to let Riley and Tate walk into the restaurant. She could not lose anyone else. She was sick of it. She had lost Kenny, then she lost Darren, even if she caused it, then Iz and then her father, then entire family, save for Orion and Wid, and all her friends back home, save Donny and Jasper. She had very few people in her life that she cared about and she refused to lose anymore. She knew she shouldn't want to go back to her father, but knowing that should could never go back was a sobering thought. But she no longer had a choice. Orion and her, five years ago had went into his office and while Orion later told her that she looked fearless walking in, she had, in actuality, been terrified. When walking towards his desk, all she had been able to imagine were the visual memories of the many men she had seen her father, or one of his lackies, kill. She hadn't been afraid that he would kill her but was infact scared he would kill the rest of them. Donny, Orion, Wid, Jasper, the Kids and even JR whom she didn't know very well but was with them at the time.
Throughout the conversation, Liz literally begged him, please he took Kenny, they took Isabel, Liz was his daughter and he had once claimed to love her so she begged him, let them go. Believe it or not, he did just that. He let them go. Something in Liz's speech must have reached him, as he let them go, including Kenny's kids. He only had one but, and that was if he saw her face again, he would hunt them all down and butcher them, saving Liz for last in order for her to watch. And it was a threat Liz definitely believed, she knew her father, she knew what he was capable of and she knew he kept his promises. Was it wrong for her to miss him? After everything he had done to her? Wrong or not, there were moments. She wondered if Widow ever felt anything like that towards her father. Like it or not, Darren might not have had the power daddy dearest did, but Darren Jr. made Senior look like a kitten. Whatever, nothing could change, the past was just that. The past and as Liz covered Tate's body, the only thing she was thinking about was making sure nothing got through to this girl, thankful to feel Riley crouch down next to her. Liz made sure to have the back of one of her arms cover up the side access to tate's neck and her other wrapped around to cover the back of her own neck in the case of flying glass as the building blew.
Turned out to be a good idea as she felt something incredible sharp hit the back of her arm that was covering tate's neck. As the blow seemed to die down she felt Riley stand up. "what the hell?" She heard him say. this would be a fun one to explain. She sat up slightly still crouching down near Tate as her father helped her up. Liz put her hands on Tate's shoulders looking at her from different angles making sure everything was okay. She closed her eyes briefly and sighed in relief as the girl seemed to be fairly untouched. "are you ok, liz?" She heard Riley's voice ask her. Liz looked up over her shoulder at him before standing up. She stepped closer to him and put her finger tips on the sides of his face and gently turned his head from side to side to see the neck, "Are you?" She asked bluntly before dropping her hands satisfied. She looked back at the burning building. She could still feel the heat radiating from the building as it crumbled but as Kale promised, the fire did not seem to be spreading to the other buildings despite the size of the blast. "i'm assuming you knew about this," Liz turned her head to look at Riley as he picked up Tate. She looked around her as she heard sirens on their way... not Sirens with a capitol but the actual sound of sirens. She nodded a bit further away from the mess, "Why don't we get her out of here?" She suggested as Riley told Tate not look. Liz stepped over some of the glass, walking a bit further away from Riley and Tate. "liz. what's going on?"
Liz shook her head slightly, ask your girlfriend being the first thought in her head but she bit it down. "Might want to have that discussion a bit later." Liz replied, nodding at Tate, and took a deep breath through her nose before stepping closer. She reached up to cup Tate's cheek to make sure she was okay but winced in pain sharply before looking at her arm where a piece of glass had clearly wedged itself a couple inches into her flesh. "are you sure you're ok, liz?" Liz reached with her other hand as pulled the glass out as quickly and smoothly as she could hoping no small pieces broke off into her arm. She looked and riley holding up the shard of glass and shrugged with a forced small smile, "You know I brought Ken's jacket, should've kept it on." She said half sarcastically. "White shirt too. damn it." She added before dropping the glass to the ground with a small sound of shatter. "i was supposed to be in there. we were supposed to be in there. thank you." Liz shook her head, "No, you weren't supposed to be anywhere, I was supposed to give you a heads up." She said plainly as she held her arm with a bit of pressure for the bleeding. It wasn't bad, no arteries. She'd be fine, just need to bandage it when she got home.
Liz was a bit angry with herself. I mean, they seemed fine but once again, his life was in danger because of her. Riley was put at risk because she didn't think to warn him. She was really failing at this take care of everyone role she had opted for. "i should start paying you every time you save my life." Liz scoffed slightly amused, "Your life? Sorry to disappoint bud but this was about this beauty queen right here." She replied in joking tone with a smirk as she looked at Tate rubbing the girl's shoulder slightly. Heaven knows Liz loved that kid with all her heart. She looked at Riley with a more serious tone, "You guys all right to go home? I can explain there. Or do you want to be checked out by the medics?" She asked nodding over her shoulder as ambulances began to arrive on the scene.

TAGGED: LIZ --- RILEY had only felt this weird limbo-feeling one other time. it was the time when riley had been with liz the night she killed her brother. he could only best describe it as an out-of-body experience when the situation had felt so out of the ordinary that it was impossible that you were experiencing it yourself. when liz and riley were in that abandoned warehouse in los angeles, everything was unreal. when darren jr, was beating riley to death, he felt every punch and kick and it had been excruciating. however, it felt like he was standing next to him the entire time. like, he was watching all of that shake down. he was experiencing that same feeling right now. he could feel his body moving and reacting to what was going on around him but all that kept running through his mind was, 'is this real life right now?'
liz moved his head from side to side asking if he was ok. "yeah, yeah, i'm fine." the heat from the building was like sitting too close to a campfire. he knew that she probably wasn't going to answer his question right away. instead, she suggested that they get tatum out of here. the ambulance's sirens started whirling and since there wasn't any physical injury on tate, there really was no reason for them to stick around. he didn't want tatum to stick around for this because there was a lot of busyness and activity going on it might freak her out a little bit. liz reached up to touch tate again when she winced and he must have noticed in the same time she did. a piece of glass was sticking out of her arm. before he could even say anything to her, she pulled it out. "what are you doing?" he asked her. he knew that you shouldn't pull anything out of your flesh because you never knew what it might have hit. liz clamped her other hand around her arm to apply the pressure and she joked about how she had kenny's jacket but forgot it. then she explained how she was supposed to give him a head's up. "wait what?" so she really did know a little something about what was going on. riley just shook his head. things that would probably be made clear to him later. "You guys all right to go home? I can explain there. Or do you want to be checked out by the medics?" riley looked at she was trying to stop the bleeding, in her arm, with her hand. "shouldn't you be getting checked out by a medic?" he asked her.
though riley and tate had driven to the theater, there was no way riley was going to be able to get his car. with all the people and ambulances and pieces of building, it was going to be awhile before he could retrieve his car. "we can just go back to the apartment. we can clean your arm there," he said and started walking in the direction of his apartment building. it wasn't far from here. the police were arriving when they started to leave and started directing people to the opposite side of the street so that they could start taping everything off and try and figure out what the hell happened. little did they know that riley was walking away with someone who definitely knew what was going on. it was about a ten minute walk from downtown to the front steps of his apartment building. they climbed the stairs together and riley unlocked the door and swung it open. "regan?" he called out, but there was no answer and the apartment was completely dark. he knew that regan was supposed to be working with reed tonight down at bad seeds. riley started turning on the lights and pulled out his cellphone. a missed text from reed. it said they he and regan were at the bar and had he heard what happened. ha, "heard." yeah he heard, he was right there. he quickly texted reed back and said he and tate were fine and that they were at the apartment. "go into the kitchen," he instructed liz. first, he had to settle tatum in. "how you doing, honey." tatum lifted her head off his shoulder. "i'm fine." |
[/b] riley put her down on the couch and turned on the tv, switching it to the disney channel. "can you sit here and watch tv while i help liz with her arm?" riley asked. tatum nodded and pulled a blanket up and around her. she nodded. riley kissed her forehead and got up. "she's watching some tv." he told liz as he stepped into the apartment's small and narrow kitchen. he opened up the cupboard above the refrigerator and pulled the first aid kit out. he had never possessed one until he had tatum and her uncles liked playing with her in the dirt. "here, let me see it." he said opening the kit up while holding her arm. riley knew it wasn't a deep cut, and when he was looking at it, it seemed like the bleeding had mostly stopped, which was good news, just in case it was something more serious. "could have been worse," he told her. he cleaned up all the dried blood and put a band-aid around the cut. "there. i think it'll be ok now." he smiled down at liz and patted the top of her hand. she always seemed to be there to save his life. he let go of her hand. "i'm seeing someone." it came out abruptly, but he felt like liz should know. "her name is kat. it's still new, but i really like her," he said and gathered up everything into the first aid kit and put it back up in the cupboard. TAGGED: riz --- LIZ WAS A STUBBORN PERSON, SHE KNEW THAT, BUT it was hard for her to give up on anything. She had lost too much. Stubbornness had made it at least feel that even if she didn't have much, at least she had her word and it was something no one could take away from her unless she let them. And she wouldn't let anyone take away her voice. Never again. She held her tongue and sucked it up what Darren had done to her for years and it never did any good except get Kenny killed, and then Darren, and then Iz, almost killed Liz three times because of blotched suicide attempts. Two averted by Riley here, one by Orion. It had put in risk the lives of Donny, Widow, Orion and yeah, Riley, in more ways than he could ever know or understand. Maybe he could if she explained but that would be unfair. She just tried everything she could to keep him safe and away from the Siren's radar after the night she killed her brother. Liz wanted her life to stay her own but at the same time, lately her life was nothing but making sure everyone around her was okay twenty four/seven and that everything was working, and no one was acting too far off the reservation, you know, except Kale, kinda hard to reign in on that bucket of crazy.
She felt as battered and beaten as she had her whole life again. It was a bit troubling to her because while she was away with Orion, even when they had some trouble with the legal system, she was doing okay. She was happy...ish. Happyish. She didn't know if she had ever been actually, truly happy. She found herself wondering about it a lot. Wondering if maybe there was no such thing and that she was waiting for something that could never happen. Ughh... life might have been hard when she was younger but at least it wasn't so confusing. At least she always knew what she was to everyone, whether she liked it or not, she always knew who she was back then. And now? God she felt like a single mother of adult children who never did anything but work and take care of people, who never really got to get out of the house. She couldn't even remember the last time she went to a party or a bar for the sake of having a nice time and letting loose and forgetting her troubles. She wanted to get drunk, she wanted to act like a twenty-three year old instead of the bitter middle aged woman inside of her running the whole damn show. Just watch, she'll have saggy tits by twenty-five at the rate she's going.
Liz accepted that Riley was fine and rolled her eyes when he seemed worried about her pulling the glass from her arm. "Oh please, I've had enough glass in my arms to know when it's hit deep enough to be anything important." She replied, writing it off as nothing. "shouldn't you be getting checked out by a medic?" Liz just looked at Riley, shifting her weight onto one side of her hip, a look that clearly was asking if he was seriously suggesting she go anywhere near professionals who would ask questions, just because she got a scrape. "we can just go back to the apartment. we can clean your arm there," Liz nodded, agreeing and began to follow Riley and Tatum towards their apartment. She enjoyed the change in temperature as they got further away from the burning building. Kale really was an artist though, it was hard to deny that. She walked up the stairs to his apartment and entered into the familiar apartment as Riley called out to his brother who was apparently not home. She looked over her shoulder at Riley, "go into the kitchen," He told her, not bossily but still. It was enough to make Liz smirk, "Since when is it you that gives the orders in these situations?"
But Liz listened anyways and walked into the kitchen. She briefly looked around before leaning against the counter, scanning the room for paper towels when RIley entered the kitchen informing her Tate was watching some television in the other room. She nodded as Riley pulled out a first aid kit, "Look at you all prepared for scrapes and bruises." She said sort of mockingly but then, "I can't talk, you should see the first aid kit we keep with Kale around." She added, mildly amused. "here, let me see it." Liz sighed slightly as she removed her hand and pulled up on her sleeve, baggy shirts fot the win. It was sad though. She really liked this shirt and now it had blood all over the arm and dirt over the rest of it. "could have been worse," Liz watched Riley as he cleaned the cut and bandaged it with a bit of a smile, it just sort of reminded her of when she semi-cleaned him up after Darren wiped the floor with Riley's face. "there. i think it'll be ok now." Liz smiled slightly and nodded, "Yeah, it was always gonna be okay, but thanks." She said looking down at her hand as he patted it before letting go. God, fuck, she could feel it coming, it was going to be one of their weird awkward moments wasn't it? "i'm seeing someone." And there it was. Sudden, quick, awkward and kind of painful to hear. They were getting good at these moments.
Liz's smile slipped a bit as she felt her heart drop in her stomach, weird reaction she thought to herself. She looked down at the ground for a moment and nodded before he spoke again. "her name is kat. it's still new, but i really like her," Liz forced a small smile and a scoff as he put away the kit. She shrugged, "Oookaay, good for you?" She replied with a small uncomfortable laugh, "Is there a reason you're telling me as though you need to justify yourself?" She asked him. Probably a good question too, but really? she was just trying to make it seem like it didn't matter to her.

TAGGED: LIZ --- THEY shared a history that no one could possibly understand. they're was just so much that happened, that they'd always be close sometimes friends, sometimes... something. if they ever stopped talking completely, liz would probably have to kill him with things he knew that he shouldn't. and for those five years he thought she was dead, he was really upset. it was the reason coco insisted tatum's middle name be elizabeth. riley was just elevated when she ended up not being dead. liz was like family because he completely trusted her. she saved his life now twice, saved tatum's life, he owed her for two lifetimes now. she could pass it off as whatever, but she would never know how much riley appreciated that. he smiled when she mentioned how prepared he was. "well i sure learned quickly i needed something. with tatum jumping off tables, beds, counters, and then running outside thinking cement is made out of cushions." he shook his head. being a parent was stressful. he was getting better at it, but in the beginning, he really thought tatum to get into anything and end up injured or killed. his mom said he just needed to take a couple steps back, but riley was always just so nervous. what if she hit her head and there was swelling on the brain? what if she choked on something and he wasn't there? yeah, riley was a nutcase, but he was just a dad. riley wondered if his parents were ever like this with him and his brothers? surely three boys so close in ages would warrant worry. more than just one daughter. but riley always remembered leaving their home in dublin with his brothers to go "exploring" and poking stick into ponds and pushing each other down hills for fun. of course, his parents never saw how bad it could get between the three of them. if they really knew what they had gotten into, his parents might have re-thought their parenting.
riley knew that it was only a little scratch, but still. she was bleeding, it needed to get cleaned. he actually kind of smiled at how it was only a cut. considering he had seen her worse than this, and vice versa. even when he believed that she was dead, he had still thought about her. back then, his life had been turned upside down. he was confused basically all the time, he almost died, and above all that, he cared. it was why he drove her to los angeles that night and why he turned his car around and went into that warehouse after her. maybe riley just cared too much. he cared about coco, and look what happen there? riley just wished that she would call or let her parents know that she was ok. he always wondered where she was. did she completely start a new life wherever she ran off to? did she get a job? making money? was she safe? riley worried about these things because coco was the mother of his child and in ten or fifteen years when tatum was a teenager she could have a relationship with her mother. or, at least know who she was instead of hard-to-remember childhood memories or stories riley told her. tatum got along great with liz. like riley and coco had always thought she would have. and riley trusted liz with tatum. he didn't have to worry if she was with her. now that riley was dating kat, tatum also got along great with her. and that was always riley's number one when it came to dating again. kat always told him what a great father he was.
there was never going to be a good time to tell her, but he just had to. why? he didn't really know. "Is there a reason you're telling me as though you need to justify yourself?" riley shook his head and closed the cabinet door. he turned around and leaned again the counter. "i don't know, liz," he started with a shrug and paused to try and word what he wanted to say, "i just felt like... maybe it needed to be said. because we kind of have a history." there, he said it. they never really addressed it so bluntly. it was more unspoken. they slept together, by a drunken mistake, shared a couple kisses, and saved each others lives a couple times. no big deal. no history at all. "and you're my friend, right? friends usually share stuff like this." yeah, that sounded better. maybe he should have said that first. like, he would want to know if she was seeing someone. riley himself started to feel happy. because five years ago, liz "died" and then two years ago, coco left. so he had his fair share of grief. and ever since kat and he started dating, riley felt like life was back on track. he was always always worried about people around him, like his brothers, and of course taking care of tatum was number one priority, but it was just nice. it was nice that riley found someone that made him happy.

TAGGED: riz --- THE HISTORY BEHIND RILEY AND LIZ WAS A MESSY ONE. One she would not give up but her family may feel otherwise. Sirens were suspicious by nature and whether or not he asked to be, Riley became connected to Liz and once he did, he was connected to them. Liz had done a fairly good job of keeping him and any involvement he may have had secret from most of the gang but eventually she had to at least let Orion know. She told Orion after they went to Santa Fe. Well, more so, he half figured it out and asked her questions until she told him the truth. He was furious about it. But not nearly as angry with her as Widow and Donny were. Especially Donny. It took awhile but they all forgave her. They found ways to understand. No, did they understand Riley and Liz's relationship? connection? whatever you want to call it? No, of course not. Liz and Riley did not fully understand it. But what they were able to grasp was that Liz was trying to save an innocent, keep him safe, and she had no way of knowing that Izzy would be targeted. Now that they knew though... guh. They weren't Riley's biggest fans before they knew. They don't like relationships they can't understand, so they just saw his as potential threat and now? He's the potential threat who lived while their best friend and sister died. Widow and Donny made snarky comments all the time, Orion kept his worried eyes on but they all overall let her be because they knew she wouldn't listen anyways.
What could she say? Something about the big dork warmed her icy heart. "and then running outside thinking cement is made out of cushions." Liz smiled and nodded and without thinking replied, "There's actually a study being done in Portland researching the possibility that young girl's are healthier if they encouraged to play outside and in the mud like most boys, since autoimmune diseases have increased 400% since the 80s and the difference comes almost exclusively in the female population...they think it's..because girls are supposed to play dolls and boys are supposed to be sporty..." Liz. looked at Riley and nodded, "Yep, so... suck on that chauvinistic America." She added in a half-sarcastic tone. Liz might not be a bookworm by nature but she had been reading a lot about the news lately. Boredom mixed with she had always internally had a bit of a geek side, it just usually only extended to Astronomy and physics. Liz shrugged and pushed off of the counter, "You know, anything to make me look less screwed up is good with me." Ain't that the truth. Hell, the main reason she read the article on the girl's in mud was because she saw the headline online and thought to herself, it could prove her better than the girly girl, prime proper, princesses out there. That was always fun wasn't it? She might have a small criminal record, and have gotten away with killing her brother. She might have depression that comes and goes and sometimes manifests into suicidal thoughts that her old student teacher and her brother need to save her from. But hey, she didn't have allergies!
God damn it, she hated those awkward pauses in the conversation. Those pauses that come from not knowing what to say, or not having anything to say. Liz honestly couldn't tell which this was. "i just felt like... maybe it needed to be said. because we kind of have a history." Yep, another awkward, not sure how to respond pause, "and you're my friend, right? friends usually share stuff like this." Liz watched Riley for a moment before convincing herself to grin, "Nice save." She replied with a small laugh. Liz shook her head slightly and glanced down at the floor before taking a silent breath and looking back up at Riley. She took a small step closer to him and raised her right hand as if to show him, holding it so the palm faced her. She smirked, "Do you see a ring?" She paused for a moment, realizing she actually did have a ring on. She rolled her eyes and pulled it off, "Okay, now do you see a ring?" She asked jokatively and with a bit a laugh in her tone, "Alright then, you can date pretty much anyone you want to, kay? But internally her mind was screaming at her to get the hell away from him. She walked towards the door of the kitchen and glanced into the other room, seeing the light from the television. She rested a hand on the door frame and looked back at Riley a bit more seriously. "It was Kale... the explosion I mean. Hired by the Italians, hit against the Russians... It's what he does." She said very directly. Change of topic please, even if this topic was still messy, at least it wasn't the 'i'm seeing someone' let down speech exes give each other.
