PERSONALITY
charlie is a really sweet and down to earth kind of girl. she loves to have fun in life and tries to see the upside of everything. she loves to smile and prefers to put herself in situations that will make her happy, this usually means that she wants nothing to do with her home life. she doesn't enjoy being home. her parents own one of the biggest, most ostentatious mansions in all of valkyrie. it comes with a gate, a pass code, and an army of armed guards with vicious watchdogs. charlie hates everything that her house stands for and everything that her family supports. her father is a die hard conservative republican who believes in marriage before sex, abstinence over birth control, and taxes for the middle class before taxes for the wealthy. that same ideology cannot be said for charlie who is about as opposite from her father as can be. being home doesn't make charlie happy. it's suffocating and cold like the marble that makes up the ground floor. she does her best to avoid going home and as such has rented a tiny little condo in downtown valkyrie.
charlie doesn't like being alone but it's something she embraces due to a lack of options. she loves to be surrounded by people. charlie is considered a bohemian of sorts. she loves love and peace and pretty much everything her father doesn't support. as such she loves to surround herself with good people. the one thing that cannot be shaken by her "peace and love" methodology is her hate for the wealthy. charlie had always lived the wealthy life. as a child she would go to faraway places for vacation and though her father would see brilliant, flashy resorts, charlie would see the poor-ridden cities and the effect that the wealthy had on third world countries. over time that anger has built up to the point that charlie has developed a secret past. she steals from the wealthy and gives to the poor. charlie steals from mansions in valkyrie, sells off the stuff she steals out of town, and takes the money she's gotten and gives the money to charities anonymously.
her past time is a secret and it's the one thing she really keeps to herself. otherwise charlie is very open and welcoming. she loves to have people in her life. she loves to get to know people and talk to strangers. it's just who she's always been. she's definitely in denial about who she is. charlie has never embraced the fact that she's a child of wealth even though her parents tried to beat it into her head as a child. the only thing that really ever gets her angry is when people feel entitled to something they didn't earn. otherwise she likes being like the little sister or best friend to people. she doesn't like making enemies because she doesn't deal well with confrontation. she likes it much better when everyone likes her and gets along.

FAMILY LIFE
family life isn't easy in the ashton household. charlie's father is domineering and hard to like if you don't share his way of thinking. he's usually the only one in the house. charlie's parent's marriage isn't a steady one but her father doesn't believe in divorce so they have never even brought up the subject. instead charlie's mom stays away a lot. she goes to resorts and spends the family money but she really doesn't care to stick around. this leaves charlie in the same down as her father. he usually makes demands that she comes over a few times a week. he means well and wants to be a good, stable father to her but because they don't get along very well things never really feel very comforting. charlie's always much more happy being on her own and surrounded by people who don't want to change her.

HISTORY
gerald and donna ashton met in the usual way. he was from old money, the type of stuck up family that was made out to be the stereotype in movies and television shows. he was the snobby type of individual who wiped his ass with benjamins and thought nothing of it. donna was from a little newer money but she was still a respected individual. they met at donna's boarding school. gerald had gone to her school to meet up with a friend who was one of the teachers there and had met donna who had freshly turned eighteen. he courted her in the usual way and when their parents approved they were married. all was well and good for many years. gerald began to pursue politics, following in the footsteps of his father, and began to change. he began to shed the slight playfulness and immaturity that donna had fallen in love with and had instead become a somber and depressing individual hell bent on taken his father's ideology to the extreme. he was elected only two years after he began making the jump into politics, his conservative platform doing unusually well in a state so liberal as massachusetts.
over time the pair grew really distant. donna wanted desperately to try to bring out the man she'd fallen in love with and gerald fought her tooth and nail every step of the way. everything was about the reputation and about the face the public sees. nothing was about enjoying one's family anymore. after years of nothing in their marriage donna told gerald she wanted a baby. at 27 years old she gave birth to her only child, a daghter whom she named charlotte after gerald's mother, the way he'd demanded she do. donna finally had something to focus her time and effort on and gave up on trying to make the marriage into something it wasn't. five years later, when donna realized that her daughter gave her more love than her husband ever had, donna asked for a divorce. gerald denied. it was totally and completely against his religion to divorce someone. he promised to support her and give her everything she ever wanted or needed but he would never, ever divorce her.
after a few years donna accepted her fate. she had tried for years to work a divorce out of him but because he was a politician he'd blocked her every attempt until she finally gave up. frustrated with what her life had become, donna began taking long, extended trips. sometimes she would take charlotte along but in most cases donna would disappear for weeks at a time to some resort where she would, without a doubt, shack up with an employee or fellow traveler who could give her more emotion in one dinner than her husband had in the course of their relationship. charlotte however was left at the mercy of her father. that wasn't to say that the man beat her or did anything so vile, but gerald had a certain way about him and he expected those in his life to accept it as well. as a man of wealth he'd never really been given the word 'no' before and as such he refused to hear it in his own home. charlotte would go with him to charity events and such and eventually became the face of his very campaign.
when she was thirteen, gerald attempted to make a run at a presidential campaign. though he had more than enough money to fund it he didn't have much of a following in comparison to other radical conservative republicans and was pushed out of the elections. being that it was his first real failure, gerald took it as a sign that politics were no longer for him and instead focused on making as much money as he could. he got into the stock market and business ventures and turned into a regular entrepreneur. His business ventures tended to make him overly busy and so he sent charlotte away to boarding school where she could learn, be disciplined, and be watched at all times.
boarding school was where charlotte really shined. she developed friendships for the first time and really found herself. she found that she wasn't very much like her father and instead was very peaceful and libertarian. she dropped her proper first name and became "charlie," a much more light-hearted individual. needless to say that after she returned home from boarding school, gerald wasn't happy with the change in her. though she was eighteen, charlie still lived under her father's roof and as such he tried to shape her back into the girl she'd been before he had shipped ehr off. after years of trying gerald finally gave up and instead paid charlie to leave his home. she was a reminder of his second failure and as such he didn't want her around as often. charlie took the money and rented out a condo in downtown valkyrie. over time she eventually patched things up with her father but it wasn't without some serious negotiations and promised to do her best and make him proud.
but that didn't seem to silence the rage that charlie had developed for wealthy people. there had been more than a few instances in school in which the wealthier people at school thought themselves entitled to things they didn't deserved. charlie felt it was her duty to put them into place somehow and she did. she usually took something small, something insignificant, and sold it off to someone for cash. she then would find a way to help a student on scholarship pay off their debts. it wasn't right but it made her happy and when she'd left the school charlie had felt like it was something that needed to be done in the "real world" as well. so she took on a bit of a robin hood persona. every once in a while, in a pattern that was the least random she could imagine, she would break into mansions throughout valkyrie, and some in surrounding towns, and would steal small amounts of valuables. she would then take her findings and sell them with someone who dealt mostly in the black market. but charlie never kept the money. the whole point was to feel less like an entitled brat. so she would give the money away in anonymous donations to charity. she's been doing so for years. no one in her life knows about what she does and charlie doesn't brag about it. she doesn't keep trophies and she does everything to forget about the jobs she's done/ for her it's all about lessening the edge that the wealthy have over the middle class and the poor.
