the italian mafia

don: also known as the boss or the godfather, the don is the one in charge. he oversees all the branches in the organization, getting his own cut from each transaction. the don has the final say in all mafia decisions.
consigliere: known as the adviser to the family, consiglieres aren't blood related to the don and his family, but has always had a close relationship with the don. he is a trusted mobster that serves as mediator in group meetings and gives the don an objective opinion on certain situations, always speaking what he thinks is best for the family. they act as representatives and liaisons when getting in contact with public figures of society. the consigliere, though having no crew of his own, holds a lot of power in the family and is respected just as much as the don and underboss.
underboss: appointed by the don, the underboss is the second in command who is in charge of the caporegimes and oversees their transactions before taking it to the don. the underboss is the first in line if the don is imprisoned or dies, becoming acting don.
caporegime: translated, they are the captains. they are chosen by the don and underboss. capos are in charge of the different illegal activities the family engages in. they have soldiers that make up their 'crew' and do the grunt work of that illegal operation or whatever their capo tells them to do. capos run their crew but make sure that they follow the family guidelines and limitations, and giving the don his cut of all transaction the operation makes.
soldier: soldiers are full-mafia members of the family after they have been recommended by capos when they were associates. they work under one capo in that specialized illegal operation and are told whatever they are supposed to do. they are usually the most at-risk members of the family to get arrested since they are doing most of the illegal transactions.
associate: this group is where many people start out as, because they are not full-members yet. associates are typically errand boys doing grunt work that not even soldiers would do. they also try and keep the heat off full-members. once an associate as proven themselves, a capo recommends them to the don and usually becomes a soldier of the crew in which that capo recommended.
ally: allies are not part of the mafia at all. they are usually friends of the family that the family can go to if they need an ally's resources and will always have protection by the mafia if they needed. allies can be politicians, other public figures, or blood-related family members to the don that aren't part of the mafia. allies to the italians are only 'in bed' with the italians and don't befriend rival groups.
the russian bratva

pakhan: translated to the boss, the pakhan is in charge of every aspect of the bratva. he is in control and oversees all the brigades that are under the bratva. he makes the executive decisions for each brigade and relays his decisions to the avtorityets.
sovietnik: the adviser and most trust person to the pakhan. the sovientnik advises to the pakhan what is the best plan of action and what is best for the bratva, removing his own biases from the equation. he is just as respected as the pakhan is before of the power he holds in decision making.
obshchak: known as the bookkeeper for the bratva, the obshchak writes down all transactions and collects the money each brigade makes. he is also a well-respected member of the bratva and is trusted.
avtorityet: translated to captains, the avtorityet are leaders to small groups of soldiers. they answer to the pakhan and go by the bratva's guidelines to keep the illegal activities alive and make as much money as they can by sending the boyevik's out on the jobs.
boyevik: the most populated group in the bratva. these are the soldiers. they follow the orders from their avtorityet and do the bidding of the certain criminal activities they are a part of in the brigade.
krysha: they are part of the boyevik group but are the aggressive enforcers of the bratva often merciless and intimidating, they typically protect businesses, people, etc. that are close to the bratva from other criminal organizations.
torpedo: they are also part of the boyevik group but the torpedos have a very specific job. they are contract killers that are called upon when someone needs to get 'taken care of.'
shestyorka: they are the lowest-ranking member in a bratva. they are the associates that do errands for the bratva. they might be signed to an avtorityet to act as an errand boy or messenger, but shestyorka's aren't involved in the main action of the bratva because they aren't boyeviks. this is a temporary position before the become soldiers, but know that they usually are assigned the jobs that no one wants to do or is at higher risk to get arrested. they strongest trait is that they might 'hear' certain things in the crime underworld that they can tell the avtorityet.
the siren gang

the boss: the head of the hughes family and therefore of the entire gang. what he says goes and what he decides becomes. he gets a cut from each illegal transaction that goes on under him.

region manager: second to the region head, works as a manager to the managers in a way. neither above or below the ranks of point leaders but work almost as a pair of eyes for the region head to make sure each group in the different cities is on track. he's the one who has the power to bring the region head in if things are not going well but does not actually have the control to make the decisions himself. usually a position meant for those who will eventually become family heads.
point leaders: always one of the original three families. picked out by the boss or second. these people take teams of sirens to locations that are outside of chicago and detroit where the boss and the second are in control. their word is essentially law for the teams they bring along
managers: usually restricted to members of the original three families, but it can be earned. these sirens work closely with the point leaders. a point leader's right hand man. usually specializes in a specifically gruesome artform such as torture and information extraction.
soldier: the soldiers of the sirens consist of fighters, thieves, snipers, con artists and people specializing in a certain trade that benefits the gang.
a green: a brand new member. only ever a member of the original three families if they, for some reason, were raised outside of the life.

patched member: patch members are members of the club who have earned the right to wear the club's colors, after a suitable period spent “prospecting”. They take part in the running of the club and attend the club's weekly meetings while doing things for the club and participating in the illegal business transactions.
prospect: a prospect is a “prospective” member of the club who is yet to earn his patch. prospects are expected to do what they are told and follow the orders of patch members. they must be prepared to engage in illegal activities to prove their loyalty to the club. prospects have no voting rights and do not attend meetings unless invited in.
soldier: the soldiers are members of the irish mob that have no plans to engage in the motorcycle club. they are almost equivalent to patch members in the sense that they participate in illegal activities the irish are in, but they don't get to vote on decisions, they're just do what they are told to do.
