"agent foster's father was one of our best agents. we were not surprised when his son showed just as much promise at his young age. his father taught him well, and we've had our eye on him since high school, and started moving in while he was in college.."
- director of organized crime special task force, robert levy
jeremy foster grew up in boston. he was raised to be tough, look out for your family, and take crap from no one. his father, liam foster, worked for the federal bureau of investigation. he was cunning, intelligent, and very good at what he did. aside from his aggressive demeanor, liam loved his wife, emma, and his three children jason, jeremy, and beatrice. even if his work took him around the world and that chance that he might never come back, liam tried to be the best kind of father, which had paid off because all the children see their father as a hero, someone to look up to, someone they'd be proud to even become half of in their own adult life.
jeremy, as the middle child, was the mediator among his siblings. he displayed great leadership and communicative skills. he developed quite the persuasive tongue and learned that charming his way through middle school had its benefits. he wasn't an overachiever, he was use to doing minimal work to get by and say he did it. however, his parents caught on to his act. he had the intelligence according to his father and he was never supposed to sell himself short. it had been one of the last pieces of advice jeremy ever received from his father. when he was fifteen years old and a sophomore in high school. the thoughts that clouded the entire foster family's mind came true. special agent liam foster returned from germany in a body bag.

"when dad died, we all took it real hard, you know? he was our superhero and then, he was gone. we never really learned the true extent of his death. classified information the fbi told us. i think they just wanted to protect us from what really happened. something terrible happened in germany. jer was the one most like dad. they both had that charismatic way they lived their life. i wasn't surprised when jer told me that the agency was starting to recruit him."
-sister, beatrice sterling
jeremy attended boston university so he could stay close to his family. he stayed at home instead of living in the dorms to help his sister take care of their mom, because emma has never quite been able to get over liam's death. though, jeremy knew he would have to move to virginia after he graduated from boston university to start training for the fbi. he managed to get a degree in political science and upon graduation at twenty three years old, the fbi scooped him up and jeremy started his training.
jeremy had a strong will at the get-go and his dedication showed. he had to be the first one done, he had to do everything right - just like his father. liam had been dead for years now and yet liam was jeremy's biggest motivator. he knew everyone was looking at him and comparing him to his father. they were big shoes to fill, but jeremy was filling them and people were taking notice. jeremy was one of the youngest agents, his adventurous no-fear side of him was what caught the eye of a special task force on organized crime unit. robert levy was the director of the unit and he saw jeremy as a way to infiltrate the giovanni crime family, the branch in new york city were a lot of gambling rings were connected to giovannis. robert proposed jeremy to work under him, and go undercover.
some might have said that jeremy was too young to be thrown into an undercover role, especially the italian mafia, but jeremy was just what they were looking for. but to craft a cover was the most difficult part. the giovannis had a way of making a new associate as a undercover and well, you didn't hear from them anymore. so the plan was, jeremy was going to go by his real name. everything about him was going to be real from his last name, to his father being fbi, to his degree from boston university. jeremy was all for making things look real, so all his accomplishments from the fbi were wiped clean, in fact, jeremy foster never graduated from the fbi. jeremy foster was kicked out three months into his training, he wanted to be an agent like his father, but he just wasn't cut out to be one. instead, jeremy foster started selling drugs and acquiring illegal firearms, enough to open a store. jeremy was arrested, went through the court system and left his paper trail to convince everyone he was the real deal. he stood before the judge who sentenced him to a year in new york state's penitentiary where known soldiers of the giovanni crime family were serving time. no one knew about the jeremy was an agent let alone an undercover, to everyone, he was let go. besides the director and the agent he reported to. his family knew very little, but knew enough to know that jeremy had changed after high school, and got mixed up in the wrong kind of business, landing himself in jail.

"was i surprised the kid jumped on this opportunity? yes, i did. i thought he was stupid because he was just that - a kid. he welcomed prison with open arms, was ready to do what was required because those italians do not fuck around. but if i had to choose, i'd pick jeremy again, he was identical to his father's tactics, we were fools not to."
- agent reporting to, agent george morales
jeremy was in prison for one year. in that time, he was a criminal to everyone. even the warden didn't know there was an undercover in his midst. jeremy had been informed prior to going to prison by robert and george the names of the giovanni soldiers. though, by his third yard time, he could have picked out the giovanni soldiers. there were three, all looking extremely intimidating. they were never bothered by the other inmates, because the others were scared of them. jeremy knew one of them was in for murder, the others for minor offenses that would be out in a year or two. at the end of the week, he saw some other inmate challenging one of the italians, which prompted a brawl there in the yard. mass chaos.
one inmate, tyler, was constantly trying to start trouble with jeremy. talking about killing him or messing him up when no one was looking. jeremy knew new inmates were the fishes, and to stand out, you had to make an impression. one day in the lunch room, as jeremy was given bland food, tyler crept on him, saying something about having a shank and jeremy better watch out. well, nothing was more public than the cafeteria. holding his metal tray, jeremy whacked it across tyler's face, immediately causing a commotion, complete with yelling, and hands slapping on the tables. tyler tried some punches, getting jeremy right in the eye, but being trained as an agent, jeremy had superior fighting skills and was able to get him down on the ground, and get several punches to the face before guards pulled him away, who themselves got a couple whacks on jeremy's side with their batons. but jeremy knew tyler wasn't going to bother him anymore.
jeremy had been punished, but since it was his first time getting in trouble, he was just forced to work cleaning the kitchen. the next day, jeremy and his cellmate, rodrigo, who was decent, went out into the yard. and just liked he hoped, one of the italian soldiers approached them. he gave one looked at rodrigo, and his cellmate split. "vedo che avete ottenuto con il uno sciusciĆ ." was what the italian said to him. jeremy knew what this was. it was his first test on getting in on the inside. jeremy had known italian his entire life. though his father was a descendent of romanians who immigrated to boston generations ago, his mother's parents were italian and emma had taught them the italian language, because they should know where they came from. the italian had said to him 'i see you got quite a shiner.' in reference to his face where a black eye had blossomed that morning. jeremy had responded with "si dovrebbe vedere l'altro uomo." (you should see the other guy.) he laughed and at that moment, jeremy knew he was in. the soldier told jeremy his name was leo and brought him over to the other two, vincent and michael. from then on, jeremy was taken under their wing.
he was nicknamed lucky by leo. he said he was lucky to have found them. and so, it stuck. the guy knew all about jeremy before he could even tell them, which proved if you knew the right person, you could find anything out from inside the prison's walls. the first question was the fbi thing. all he said about it was, he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps, which probably the guys wanted to, too, (they all agreed, coming from generations of italian soldiers) but jeremy said they let him go, said he wasn't up to par, didn't pass the psychological test. they believed him. because what undercover agent would blatantly have the fbi tied to his record? it was like hiding in plain sight.
for the next year, jeremy stuck close to leo, michael, and vincent. they told him what they were involved in outside of prison. it helped that leo had actually been a capo before getting arrested because by getting an ok by leo meant something on the outside as well. jeremy had basically become an associate while in prison.

"i won't lie. being undercover is very difficult. you've got this huge secret that if you're made, you're dead faster than you can blink. it also completely consumes you. there were many nights when i was in prison that i would lay awake at night reminding myself that this truly wasn't who i was. by the ninth and tenth month, i felt like i was this completely other person. but i never told george or robert. they'd pull me out and i didn't want that. i didn't want my lack of experience get the better of me."
- agent jeremy foster
leo had been the first to have been released, jeremy was the second. leo had been there to greet him on the other side. jeremy had gained his trust. he was taken out for drinks in a downtown new york bar, which seemed to be a mafia hang out because jeremy was introduced as the guy leo 'had been talking about.' it was his first time among a lot of italians, and even though he didn't look it, he was nervous. he might have fooled the three in prison, but jeremy didn't know about the others. but jeremy spoke italian which put him a class above most. after getting an apartment, jeremy spent his nights with the mafia. leo, who was a big player with drugs and the new york branch dabbled in prostitution on the side to see what kind of business that would draw up, jeremy was brought along on a lot of runs. two months since being released from prison, jeremy was a soldier in the mafia. he reported periodically with george morales. but it had been difficult at first just because you could never be followed.
four months ago jeremy... or 'lucky' was told that he was being relocated to valkyrie, california. he didn't see this as a bad thing at all. valkyrie was the most powerful of the branches, it was where most of fausto giovanni's blood family resided. when he told george and robert that he was going to valkyrie, they almost pulled him out but jeremy convinced them that going to valkyrie was the big leap, her was getting more responsibilities, he had gained the trust, they were sending him to valkyrie because he was going to do better there. robert and george agreed, though they were worried. lucky foster had been jeremy's persona for so long now. he had that year in prison and now eight months in the eye of all these illegal activities. crime was very alluring. but jeremy assured them he hadn't lost sight on the main objective - he was going all the way to the top. he was going to be the guy people were going to talk about as the agent that infiltrated the mafia. the one they were going to write books about and make movies of.
jeremy had been in valkyrie for the past four months. he is still a soldier, but one of the higher ranking ones. he works primarily in the gambling ring under luca giovanni. he's good at collecting bets. he also knows his way around a car pretty well. any vehicle, really. he's a good guy to have during an exchange, because if something were to happen, he can get out quickly. though his focus has never been tighter, his superiors were right, the crime world is very seductive.
