TAGGED: CARLY NOTES: yay! --- "YOU got to go to los angeles tomorrow for the chelsea taping. also i set up an interview for you with ryan seacrest. you'll just be calling into the station. you'll be doing that interview on the way back to valkyrie because you have some night scenes that are filming tomorrow. also sam... sam pay attention." sam pulled his eyes from the television in his hotel suite at the inferno. his assistant slash publicist, gabrielle, was sitting in the chair across from the couch he was occupying. "i heard you. chelsea lately, seacrest, filming," he said with a smile and turned his eyes back to the television. "ok. next is..." sam glanced back at gabrielle as she looked through her clipboard of things. "oh. right. i have people, us weekly, and star waiting for your comment on your time in the hospital with carly and lily. and with that comes what your relationship status." sam was stupid to think that he had been able to slide under the radar that night. he had thought with everything going on, no one would have noticed, or cared, but gabrielle called him the next morning at the crack of dawn because perez hilton had a couple of cellphone pictures on his blog of sam in the hospital. pair that with that restaurant exploding and it's pandemonium. "hm. well, tell them i have no comment about the hospital. and you know what to say about the other." sam said. gabrielle nodded with a little bit of a smirk, she tucked a but of her blonde hair behind her ear and looked at him. "you're just friends. i know the drill," she said and pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose. gabrielle knew the real story though. she knew that sam had been pretty much in love with his best friend for the past two years. and even if now, things were a little different between them ever since sam admitted his true feelings to her.
gabrielle was just a year younger than sam was, but she acted like a pro when it came to the publicity. she had first started out as his assistant on the remember me set and he just really liked how focused and determined she was, so when filming wrapped, he asked her to become his publicist, because his was being shoddy at best. she said of course. he knew she didn't know much about the publicity aspect of hollywood but by day two, it was like she had been doing it her whole life. and somehow she still remained his assistant because she knew him better than some new guy. his agent and manager were a little bit apprehensive about sam just hiring her with little to no experience at all, but they didn't feel that way anymore. they knew she was remarkably good for the short amount of time she was on the job. "and mtv wants you to present an award at the movie awards this year. you want to? i got to get back to them by the end of the day,." sam nodded. "yeah, sure, sounds like fun." he knew he wasn't nominated this year because he hadn't done anything recently movie-wise. he spent the last year filming and filming for other movies, and now he was filming drift so he was still pretty busy.
sam looked down at his watch, a quarter to two. "oh, i gotta go," he said, getting up. he had the day off from filming today. gabrielle frowned. "where? you aren't scheduled for anything." "i'm just going down to the pool. carly and i were going to take lily down there. you know, have a little fun after everything that happened to her." sam went back into his bedroom and pulled out some trunks from one of the drawers. he had a house back in los angeles, but he had been living in valkyrie for a bit now, like he did with most movies he filmed. the hotel suite sure felt like another house of his. "i'll call down, get you guys a private cabana. because people will be staring." gabrielle called to him. he didn't really think it was necessary since they would be in the pool anywhere. but whatever. he pulled a tshirt over his head and grabbed his sunglasses. he had to go down a couple more floors to get to carly's room. he walked past gabrielle who had her phone glued to her ear and was writing things down in her notebook. "i'll see you later," he told her and left his room. sam walked to the elevators and waited when the doors opened he got on and pressed the number to carly's floor. a couple of other people were in the elevator, but they weren't really paying attention and sam had his sunglasses on. the elevator dinged and opened up on the floor he wanted. he walked down the hall until he stopped at carly's door and knocked.

"pool! pool! pool! pool! pool! pool! pool!" carly heard the chanting from lily's bedroom along with the thumping sound of her jumping on the bed. "you better be dressed if you've got enough time to jump on the bed." carly warned. she heard the thumping stop and a mad scramble around the room and couldn't help but smile. honestly after all she'd been through carly would have let lily to just about anything. that poor little girl had been through hell. she had just finally healed up from her surgery after the explosion at china wok and honestly this was the first real time carly was willing to let her go outside or do anything that was even remotely dangerous. sam had told her not to worry, that she was a kid and needed to be able to act as such. he was right. carly was just...a scared mother. she didn't know what else to do. she only knew how to love her daughter and one she almost lost at that. it wasn't an easy pill to swallow and letting her go out at all just made carly so nervous. she saw the kid that might hit her child over the head and cause some kind of reaction. she saw the slippery sidewalk where she could fall and quite literally crack her head open a second time around. the world was a god damn death trap and as much as carly wanted to be the carefree, cool, and fun mom she just couldn't look at the world around her and not see all the ways the world wanted to take her daughter away from her. it was so hard to say yes to a pool date the way she was feeling. all she wanted to do was scream at the world to leave her alone and that she had to protect her daughter but then it wasn't just her or the world who would be suffering. whether she wanted to admit it or not she had to let go for lily's sake. it was a bitter, bitter pill indeed but it needed to be swallowed. she could do it for lily.
"ready!" lily said as she opened the double doors to her room and twirled around in her little yellow and pink swirled bathing suit. "i see that! good girl. now go collect all your pool stuff. your goggles and floaties and anything you wanna bring. just make sure you can carry it all. it needs to come back with us." carly said as she rifled through the drawers to find her own black and blue bathing suit. she disappeared into the bathroom and began changing as she heard a knock at the door. "that's sam." she said as she heard an "I'LL GET IT" come charging through the hotel room. carly ground her teeth, hoping not to hear a thunk and an ow, or worse a thunk an no sound, as lily padded over to the door and opened it up. "daddy!!" she squealed as she jumped into his arms. carly chuckled and spoke through the door, "on second sam." she slipped a wrap around her waist that dangled at a diagonal to one knee. it was more for decoration than anything else. she stepped out of the bathroom to see lily in sam's arms, her little arms wrapped around his neck as she squeezed him tightly. "and we have to do this?" she asked nervously as lily wriggled out of his arms to the floor and rushed off to grab her pool gear. carly walked up to sam and hugged him herself, her fingers tangling behind his neck as she looked up at him, giving him a kiss on the lips. "i know this is the right thing to do, to get over the fear, but that's my baby. i'd never forgive myself if she was the subject of another damn criminal attack." she said without giving him a chance to speak. it was obvious that she was nervous but she couldn't quite help herself. this was the first time she was really letting go and really letting her daughter out of the hotel room. sure it was only downstairs to the pool but a lot of things could go wrong between this floor and the ground floor. carly shuddered a little as she heaved a breath. she needed to do this. "grab two towels baby." she said before kissing sam again and taking a step back.
lily emerged a few seconds later with two towels, her arms pre-equipped with poorly inflated floaties, goggles on top of her head, and some kind of bathing suit-clad barbie in her hands. "alright alright. let's do this before i talk myself out of it." she said as she took the towels from lily with a chuckle. "lead the way." she told her as she took sam's hand, a smile on her face as they headed out of her room toward the pool.

TAGGED: CARLY NOTES: <3 ---HE heard her before the door even opened. "I'LL GET IT" the door whipped open and lily screamed his name, which had long since become 'daddy' and jumped up in his arms. "there's my princess. looks like you are all ready to go." she nodded and pulled her arms around his neck. carly called that she would be out in a minute. "are you ready to go swimming?" sam asked lily. "yes. can we go into the deep end?" it took some persuasion to convince carly nothing was going to happen if they went to down to the hotel pool. "we'll see. you got all those floaties?" "yeah. i gotta go get them." carly came out and asked him, "and we have to do this?" sam put lily down and she went running towards her bedroom. he gave her a sympathetic smile as she hugged him. his arms found their place around her waist and then she kissed him, which he was slightly surprised about. just because they were at that limbo stage where they weren't going backwards and weren't going forwards. but it felt nice. "nothing's going to happen to lily. we'll be by her the entire time. nothing to worry about," sam said.
she kissed him one more time before lily came back out, arms full with pool stuff. "alright alright. let's do this before i talk myself out of it." sam took the floaties out of lily's arms and tucked them under his arm, leaving her with just the barbie doll. carly grabbed his free hand and the three of them left the room. for as long as sam had been living here at the inferno, he had never gone down and went to the pool. he had just been too busy. the weekend matt was here with him their plans was to check the pool out, but since that had been the weekend the explosions happened, matt's visit was cut short because sam remained in the hospital with carly and lily until lily was released. he felt bad for his brother, but he had stopped by and said sam shouldn't feel bad, and that's he'll be back in another month. so then, matt went back to new york city. his parents sent lilies for lily. how fitting. his mother would do something like that. but his mom also knew how much sam loved lily and she had been genuinely concerned. she told sam she and his father would have stopped by but they had to leave for vancouver for another movie they were both working on.
sam had really been lucky when it came to the location of where the movie was being filmed. the director could have used the beaches in los angeles, but he didn't like how overcrowded they looked and he didn't want to bother with permits. he liked the beach front of valkyrie, there were portions of the beach that were hardly ever used. and he liked how valkyrie itself wasn't jam-packed with people in the city itself since even though valkyrie was a pretty good sized city, it was significantly smaller than los angeles, and with valkyrie only being two hours from los angeles it was an easy commute. sam had been spent a lot of the first several weeks learning to surf. when it came to stunts, he did as much of his own as he could until they were dangerous or needed a professional. he wanted to learn how to surf because even if he couldn't do most of the tricks, he could easily now ride a wave. but he would have to bring carly and lily around set one of these days. he used to do it all the time when they lived in new york.
they made it down to the lobby and walked through a few more halls until the reached one of the entrances to the pool. the pool at the inferno was just as big as one would expect a resort hotel to have. it was bright and loud, and you could hear a ton of people around. lily marched closely in front of them. "mr. lockhart." a man approached them, with a polo shirt that said the inferno on the right side of his chest. "your assistant said you would be coming down here. i can show you to your cabana." he squeezed carly's hand. "gabrielle. you know how she is," he said to her. it was true. carly and her had been around each other countless of times over the past two years. they followed the guy to the farthest end of the pool to an enclosed tent. "if you need anything else, one of the staff would be glad to help." sam nodded and took his wallet out of his trunk's pocket and handed the guy a twenty dollar bill. "thanks. i'll do that." |
[/i] sam stepped inside the cabana where there was two comfortable looking lounge chairs and some beverages already sitting on the little table. "i'll inflate the floaties a little bit more," he said. "then we can do some swimming," he said to lily as he sat down in one of the chairs and started blowing up the wings and then the doughnut ring one. they were small, so it didn't take long to blow them up. he handed them over to carly as he pulled his tshirt off and tossed it and his wallet on the chair behind him. carly wanted to be ready for this but the fact of the matter was that if sam wasn't here silently forcing her to go, she wouldn't be going. it terrified her but carly knew that this was part of the reason they were going to the pool in the first place. they weren't going to prove something to lily. lily was a little girl and she knew what she wanted. she didn't let the fear eat her up. she took on the world with the brightest smile carly had ever seen. no this was for carly. this was to show carly that if they left the safety of the hotel room nothing would happen to lily. she wasn't going to spontaneously combust or be the target of a mob hit if they walked out into daylight. it was terrifying and carly had a right to be concerned. after all the first time she'd come back to valkyrie she'd been told she needed a bodyguard to protect her in case someone looked to hurt her. ksenia had to to talk to her in a public park where the cockroaches of the town could see them. little did carly know that the number of city-wide cockroaches was a little higher than she'd previously assumed. she never would have thought the city would be under attack. she never thought that restaurants would blow up because of the "war" going on. they were close to mexico but this was ridiculous.
his voice was reassuring. it made her nod and believe that maybe, just maybe, they could get through this without some kind of disaster. carly didn't know how lily did it. if she'd been blown up she would have been a mess. heck she had been blown up and she was a mess. she didn't know how lily could do it. she'd woken up in a strange hospital room with her mother crying over her and her head hurting. she'd been scared and her hair had been singed from the close fire. anyone else would have locked themselves away and never wanted anything from anyone again. lily? lily wanted to go to the pool and play. carly admired that about her, she really did, and it helped to offset her nerves. she heaved a sigh as she geared up for this. most people wouldn't consider going down to the pool to be such a big event but carly was just scared. she was a young mother and she just wanted to do right by her child. having lily nearly blown to smithereens made her a little wary about her abilities as a mother. she would try extra hard but the fact of the matter was that this had happened because carly had brought danger into her life and into the life of her daughter. she was kicking herself for letting her feelings overrule that of her maternal instinct. there was just one person in her life who, though she didn't blame, was responsible for introducing her to this side of valkyrie and carly wasn't sure just how much longer she could afford to let him be a part of it anymore.
carly slid a pair of sunglasses in place and they headed outside. "i like the way she thinks." carly said with a smirk. of course his assistant would know that they would maybe want a place to disappear from prying eyes. as they headed over carly sat down on one of the lounge chairs and pulled out all their things. she laid out the towel on the chair and took a seat, beckoning lily over as sam blew up her floaties. as he handed them over carly snuggled them in place around her middle and high on her arms. "alright baby. you tell me if these get loose okay? can't have them falling off." carly nodded as she watched sam pull off a majority of his clothes. she knew he looked nice, better than nice even, but she had to admit that he could take her breath away. carly pulled off the little wrap at her waist and took lily's hand. "shallow end sounds like a good place to start." carly looked back over at sam with a smile as they all headed to the stairs to get into the water.

TAGGED: CARLY NOTES: <3 --- IF sam was in carly's position, he would probably be worried too. it would be so stressing to feel like something could go wrong, especially with kids. and lily was carly's flesh and blood and what had happened to them that night in front of the china wok was extremely traumatizing. when you read about those crimes happening in the news paper, you never expect it to happen to you or someone you love. sam had never been in an er waiting room before, nor did he ever think he would be. but sam had probably of been just as stressed at the hospital. he was worried about carly and he was worried about lily. maybe it was because he was a guy, but he was all for bringing lily out of the hotel room. it took awhile convincing carly until he finally settled on going to the pool located in the inferno, so they weren't even leaving the hotel's property. and pools were fun. controlled fun, and both he and carly would be supervising her the entire time. it was the perfect way to have some fun and not having to worry about all the dangers.
the last thing sam kicked off was his sandals. "you look like a marshmallow," he told lily with a smile. she had the puffy wings around both of her arms and the ring around her stomach just made her look extra precautions. there was no way she was going under the water. carly and lily led the way out and sam put his sunglasses on before stepping out of the cabana himself. the weather was beautiful, but it was california and the past several dies had only been nice. even if the inferno's pool was tucked back in the property of the resort, you could tell beyond the walls it was just as nice. the pool was huge, definitely not like the motel pools. the water glittered in the sun. palm trees were placed strategically around the pool area to make it seem like it was the beach. there were some hot tubs off to one side and even a few slides on the other side. like he expected, there were a lot of people down here today. it was basically the summer now and lots of vacations were taking place now. there was a wide range of people here today, too. he saw a lot of teenagers, families with little kids like lily, and college students.
they walked the distance towards the shallow end of the pool. sam walked behind them looking around and people sitting at the lounge chairs deep in conversation with glasses of alcohol. others had a game of volleyball going in the deep end. younger kids were swimming around with goggles on, dipping down to the very bottom of the pool before coming back up, probably playing a game. sam remembered doing that with his siblings when his family would take vacations. going to the pool was always the first thing they wanted to do when they checked into a hotel. mainly because each hotel always had their own thing to a pool. when they finally reached the shallow end of the pool sam stood on the other side of lily. he gave carly another reassuring nod. it was all going to be good and nothing was going to happen. he held on to lily's other hand as they started walking through the water that only touched their feet. it was cold, as it always was and eventually their bodies were going to adjust to it. lily must have been enjoying it because she was laughing. "the floaties got her," he told carly when they stopped when they were about waist deep with lily contently floating next to them. "hey lily. we're going to play a game," he said and pulled lily's ring closer to him and backed up a couple steps away from carly. he held on to her ring and said to her, "all you have to do is kick your feet and go towards mommy. then she can have you kick your way back to me." she was being held up by the ring around her stomach, so there was no chance of her going under, but at least she'd be having those early stages of learning to swim. and he was only standing three feet away from carly - an arm's reach away.

carly slowly but surely began to relax. it was probably crazy to think that just because they stepped foot outside that the world around them was going to fall apart. people didn't scope out the inferno just to watch for her appearance so they could blow a hole through her head...or at least she certainly hoped so. she knew that there had been people out to get her but that had been when carly had associated herself with old friends made acquaintances who had, unbeknownst to her, ties to illegal russian operations. what was this crap. ksenia wasn't the only one who'd had her neck deep in mob business. flynn was as well. carly seriously felt as though she was in a tug of war amongst different mafias. the had the russians tugging her in one direction with ksenia and the bodyguard turned eternal conundrum that was jamie sakarov, then she had the irish branch tugging her in another direction with her best friend flynn rooney who thought now of all times was a great time to let her in on the fact that he didn't somehow have a chronically ill grandmother but instead was doing god only knows what for an illegal organization. carly had to wonder how in the hell he never got caught. he was just as famous as she was. sure they weren't dating and sure there were rumors about him being gay which carly knew were entirely impossible but still, how in the hell had he skated under the radar of the paparazzi. oh hell, for all she knew he paid them to keep their mouths shut or he just skipped that step entirely and shut it for them. what a tragic and terrifying thought. here carly thought that maybe, just maybe, she'd only had to worry about a hoard of russian-haters wanting her dead. oh, not to mention wrynn giovanni who had made herself a staple in carly's life for a short, short period of time. that was at least three criminal organizations that she had somehow made ties to. this was ridiculous.
she had plenty to worry about and just thinking about it all made carly want to grab up her daughter and never again see the light of day. but she knew that she would be severely depriving lily if she let her paranoia effect the way she raised her daughter. lily was a vivacious little woman. she loved to go out and enjoy herself. she loved to meet up with friends in the park and that sort of thing. she had even acclimated well to living in a hotel. she knew all of the staff by name and they loved her to no end. they spoiled her with extra chocolates that were supposed to individually dot pillows in each hotel room. they would give her extra pillows to build a fort and would cart her around on suitcase trolleys when there was nothing else to do. lily had everyone wrapped around her little finger. carly was no exception but she also couldn't just spoil her and get away with it. she also had to raise that little girl and she damn well hoped that she was doing it right. she just wanted to hear once that she was doing it all right. "but a cute marshmallow." carly chimed in as she saw lily's pout begin to form. carly didn't want to start hearing about how she didn't want to look all puffy and wanted to take off some of the floaties. she gave sam a bit of an eye but smiled down at lily. "pool time little lady." she said as they headed out of the cabana. the water was a little chilly and had yet to come up to temperature from the winter. california winters weren't anywhere near as crazy as the ones all three had seen in new york but it still made the surrounding waters drop enough degrees to make the shy stay away. carly wiggled her toes in the water along with lily, a little habit both were prone to, before she eased down a step.
"i know. i know." carly said quickly, her stress levels rising. she breathed a sigh and tried to calm down as sam walked a few steps away with lily. "it's not about you today. it's about her." carly reminded herself. carly smiled at her little girl as she opened up her arms. "kick baby kick." she coaxed as lily gave it her all, kicking her way over to carly quickly. carly picked her up and spun her around before she set her back in the water, taking a step back. "now to sam. come on baby kick." carly began to relax. lily's smile had that kind of effect on her. regardless of what she was feeling right now, the explosion was the farthest thing on lily's mind. carly needed to take a few notes from her daughter and relax and she was really trying to do so.

TAGGED: CARLY NOTES: <3 --- THIS had been a good idea. lily was having a ball and sam was sure that having carly see how much fun lily was having was relaxing her. and from the looks of it, it seemed like everyone around them was having a good time. no stress or worries. that was why people came here anyway, to forget about the outside life. that was what sam wanted carly to do. he said they should do this for lily, but his idea was really about for the both of them. they both needed to get out of their hotel room because that was the only place sam was able to find them since lily's release. sam had often brought in fast food for the three of them and then they'd watch movies. it reminded him a lot of when they lived together in new york. except now it had been different because back then they were just best friends, and now... it just wasn't like that anymore. and sam said he'd wait around if he had to. he knew coming to the pool had been a big step and he was just trying to make it easy and enjoyable for them.
it had to of been hard for lily to kick the short distance between sam and carly with the ring around her stomach, but she made it into carly's arms, and twirled her around. sam smiled at the two of them. lily's face was lit up completely at her success of swimming towards carly. and carly was looking just as pleased. he loved her. she was an incredible mother at a young age. she was also extremely successful with her dancing. he remembered when he first met her. he had been surprised when his manager told him he was going to be guest judge on american dance. he didn't understand why at first, because he knew little to none about dance. he was just a promotional train with remember me and that's why he thought he was asked. but ends up the challenge of the week for the dance competition was focused on acting in a dance, so sam wasn't too worried about it then. when he first saw carly, he had been completely captivated by her beauty and her talent. suddenly, being the guest judge could have been his best promotional gig to date.
sam had a lot of other actor friends. people he met at events and just became friends, or people he had starred in movies or television with. there were also those acquaintances that you continually talked to a social parties. even though, they'd be the first to become a tabloid's "inside source" it was all about choosing friends wisely and sam usually did that. for being young and seen around los angeles and new york a lot, he did keep a lot of his private life private, even before the media frenzy between carly and him. after the consistent flow of pictures that seemed to get posted online and printed in magazines of the three of them all over new york, one of the regular questions he would be asked was about his relationship with lily. some friends would ask if it was weird that he was so young himself and lived in an apartment with a toddler and her mother. sam never thought of it negatively or as a burden. yeah, he was aware that a lot of twenty year olds weren't helping take care of a little kid, but he wasn't like most twenty year olds. in hollywood, when you were a kid actor that grew up in the spotlight, but the time you reached twenty, you had the mindset of a thirty year old. you weren't immature or looking out for only yourself. of course there were the child actors that veered off in the wrong direction but sam never did. and he loved kids. so he told his friends that he absolutely loved living with the other two. he told the media that lily was his little buddy and that was the end of that debate.
carly sent lily back to him and she did the same kicking she did before until she reached sam's outstretched hands. "you are becoming a pro at this, princess," he said and put his hand out for her to give him a high five. they went back and forth with her a few more times, backing up a tiny bit each time. when lily made her way back to him, he scooped her up and started inching a little closer to carly. sam cupped his hand to lily's year whispering to her, "we should splash mommy next," he said and they both giggled, clearly up to no good. he put lily back into the water and push her in front of him as they got closer to carly. "ok, now!" sam said and they both started splashing, sam more mildly, and lily splashing so wildly she was getting both of them wet.

this was a good idea, carly was just hard to convince. seeing it working first hand though was a nod in sam's favor. carly really hadn't known whether this was gonna work out, taking lily to the pool. for some reason she just assumed that deep down in a place she hadn't let carly in on, lily was just as afraid as she was about the outside world. but it seemed, the more they played, that the only one with a clear cut and unwavering memory was carly. lily seemed to forget all about it. she didn't think about it. she didn't even care. mayeb it was because she was too young to understand the weight of what had happened the way carly remembered it. after all there weren't a lot of people who weren't in the military that could say they were blown up and survived. it was a big damn deal what had happened and if lily had been any older carly would have been worried if it hadn't affected her in the slightest. but she was young. she cared more about playing with her barbies then thinking about the dangers of the world which is what made her so precious to carly. lily hadn't yet reached that age where she second guessed everything or made carly feel badly about skipping out on her when she should have fought for her. those years were on the horizon, carly had no doubt about that. the teenage years were never easy on anyone and even the most mature, understanding child had to rebel every so often just to keep their sanity. they had to find themselves for themselves. they couldn't be told what they liked or why. the needed to defy their parents in an attempt to make mistakes and learn from their mistakes. that's just the way it was. carly had a feeling that her mistakes now would come out in lily's teenage years. carly just hoped to god that lily didn't make the kind of same mistakes carly did. carly would support her, of course, but it didn't need to be a new sutton child tradition to have children in your teens.
but it was obvious that the only one living in the shadow of that giant explosion was carly. she felt a little alone in her concern but that was a mother's job right? it was her job to worry and to care about the little things? it was her job to care for and ensure a good life for her child. that was all she had planned on doing. she wanted to be a good mother and almost nothing else in the world seemed to matter. well that wasn't completely true. there were a lot of other people in her life who mattered as well, first and foremost was becoming sam. he was always there for her. he cared about her and he told her such and he'd been there for her more than even her family had. he was there every day, making sure she wasn't driving herself mad while being a constant factor in her daughter's life. he should have been her father and it was a shame carly hadn't met him at a time when such a thing would be possible but he had stepped in when no one else asked. he took on the obligation even though it seemed crazy of him to do so. it was amazing and carly would be forever indebted to him for his decision to be such for lily.
she could see the evil plotting in their eyes as they came closer yet again and squealed when she was suddenly pelted with water. it helped that sam was getting a good dose as well. carly gently flicked water back at lily, being careful not to get it in her eyes or overwhelm her too much. carly rushed forward and grabbed lily, tossing her into the air and catching her with ease. she kissed her little girl's rosy cheek and smiled. this was turning out to be a really good day. she looked over a sam and mouthed a thank you. as she turned her attention back to lily she noticed she was checking out a group of kids playing in the water a few feet away, who were waving back at her. "you wanna go say hi?" she asked as she put lily back in the water. "go for it." lily kicked and paddled away, saying hello to the children who had been waving. carly swam over to sam as she watched lily say her hellos. the girls began playing and carly was pretty sure lily wouldn't be coming back until she was hungry, thirsty, tired, or until carly told her it was time to go. "and just like that she's gone." she said to sam with a snicker. "you wanna go back to the cabana or stick around in the water?"

TAGGED: CARLY NOTES: yay muse. --- SAM did this for them and he could see that it was all paying off. the relaxing day was what he needed, too. he loved working, he loved his job don't get him wrong. it was just the new movie was leaving him exhausted most nights. he spent three hours everyday working out to stay in shape and toned for the role in addition to learning to surf and learning basic tricks and skills that required just as much strength and effort to pull off. adding that onto filming scenes well into the night and sometimes early in the morning for certain shots and scenes. it was hard work and sam did enjoy it because the end product was the reward. he still loved days off, though, to sleep in and do nothing all day. and, of course, spend time with carly and lily without worrying about being on set in an hour. because he knew when the sun was going to set, gabrielle was going to be the first to call him reminding him of the schedule she already informed him off. "just to make sure," she always told him. like he was so spacey he constantly forgot what was going on with his life. though usually during film promotions, he would forget what day it was, or what city he was flying to, and time changes and all of those minor things, but gabrielle was always there to tell him the questions he tended to think during those times.
in a strange way, that maybe sam wasn't ready yet to admit to carly, but he really was beginning to feel like lily was his. he had been willing to assume a father figure role when lily first called him daddy. even if she was a toddler, he had been honored that she thought of him that way. sam celebrated her birthdays with her, tended to give her whatever she wanted, stayed home with her if she was sick while they lived in new york, and checked all items they bought if they had small objects that toddlers might swallow and start choking on. his feelings for carly had been secret back then, so he was the friend slash roommate viewed as a dad, which yeah, sounded weird and messed up. but now, that he and carly were... whatever they were, he felt... he didn't know, more like that dad. after getting successfully pelted by splashing water from both carly and lily, lily started looking over at other girls her age, that she must had known from around the hotel. surprisingly, there were a lot of people here that stayed long-term and not just for a week-long vacation. he was surprised, no shocked, when carly said lily could go over there and play with them. progress indeed.
"you wanna go back to the cabana or stick around in the water?" sam looked over at her. she couldn't see since he had sunglasses on the surprise in his expression. "well, you know what i want to do," he said with a smirk, gettng close enough to touch her hip under the water. "but you'd be ok with leaving lily away from your vision?" he looked back over at the little girls playing in the water, a female inferno lifeguard keeping a close eye on them. "i'm impressed, sutton," he said with a slow smile and pulled an arm around her shoulder, briefly pulling her next to him and kissed the top of her head. "but come. i got a question to ask you anyway." he said as they started walking out of the pool, the water dropping from their hips to their knees until finally they were out of the water completely.
it didn't take long for them to return back to the cabana, sam stepped in first and took one of the towels that had been provided and wrapped it around carly's shoulders. "your daughter got you good," he said smirking, referencing their splash fight a few minutes before. since sam was constantly unsure what was going on with them, he refrained from doing the first move. just because they hadn't verbally said much about what was going on between them. carly was the one that kissed him up in her room earlier, surprising him because it had been like they greeted each other always with a kiss. sam rubbed the towel around her shoulders but stopped abruptly and decided to make the first move himself. he leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips. he lingered slightly before pulling away. "my question," he stated. "i want to know what we're doing. i want to know what's going on with that jamie guy. i didn't want to... i didn't want to pester or pressure you with questions before. but, i guess i just need to know. it's like i have you, but i don't all at the same time."

carly knew that these times had been pretty darn hard on sam. he had confessed to her that he cared about her, he'd kissed her, she had kissed him back, and then jamie had disappeared and carly had been stuck in wonderland with sam halfway on the outside looking in. it couldn't have been easy. here she was continuing to do so too. some part of her had been holding out, waiting for the day when jamie would resurface and maybe something would happen. as much as she knew how dangerous he was for her she couldn't help it. something about him had intrigued her and always had. something about him thrilled her, consumed her, and gave her the kind of rush that few others had done. in some way he reminded her of cain and how carly used to feel around him. she had been the lowly freshman and he had been the well to do senior with eyes only for her. something that like flipped switches in the mind of a young woman and tended to make them only want to do what was necessary to please the man who had looked through a crowd of people and apparently only seen her. that was somehow close to what jamie made her feel. he was dangerous and surrounded by crazy things that she never could have imagined in her life and for some reason he still chose her. he'd chosen her for different reasons of course but he had chosen her. she took the crazy world he lived in away and knowing that somehow tugged at her heartstrings so hard that despite the world he lived in carly still debated on whether or not she should wait for him. did she love him? no. she couldn't. she couldn't bring herself to feel something like that for someone who could ruin everything she ever had. he didn't get along with lily the way sam did, he didn't look out for her first the way sam did...he was her weakness and nothing else. he was her kryptonite. he wasn't beneficial to anyone other than her and that was something carly was trying to come to terms with.
sam on the other hand...she knew everything about him spelled the right stuff. he wasn't lily's father but he had accepted the job long before carly had let him deeper into her life. he cared about that little girl almost more than he cared about carly and that spoke volumes to her. she knew that if all else failed that sam would look out for her daughter first. he would protect her like his own. there was a reason she called sam daddy and no one else. there was a reason that she had preferred him and had asked carly continuously for months when she would see him again when carly had taken them to valkyrie after the earthquake. he had been everything to lily and he continued to be that to her today. it was obvious in everything that he did that he did it first and foremost for the little girl that was practically half his. sam wasn't someone she loved either, but she didn't deny that there was a possibility there for something more. jamie wasn't someone she would let herself fall that hard for. sam on the other hand was practically a sure thing. he just didn't have the intrigue factor the way jamie did and that wasn't because he wasn't interesting, it was just because she knew him inside and out and he was her best friend. jamie was new. things she told him were things he'd never heard before and simply because of who he was and what he did he surprised her at just about every turn. that was all.
she trusted that the lifeguard being paid to guard lives was actually going to do her job. besides, she had to calm down about this right? not every one was out to get her and her daughter. she smirked as he got closer, nodding to his question. "i think i can suffer a little. she's playing with friends right? not going off in a theme park by herself. let's go." she followed him out of the pool and into the cabana, giving lily a little wave and pointing to the tent to say where she was going. lily looked to nod and then went back to playing with her friends. good enough for carly. she laughed as he spoke up, snuggling into the towel as he wrapped it around her. "as i recall she had some help." carly accused with a smirk. "so what's this question of yours?" her eyes slowly closed as he kissed her. he didn't do that often but she liked when he did. "oh sam." she said as she reached a hand out to him, gesturing to the lounge chair and sitting down beside him. "i know i've been vague about everything having to do with you and me or jamie and me, but i know now that what i feel for him, what i felt, it was nothing more than intrigue. he's not good for me and you are. he has no connection with lily and you're...her father." she trailed off, trying to find a way to say this to him. "i couldn't love him, but..." she trailed off once again, looking over at him, "i could fall in love with you." she shook her head, brushing her fingers through her hair. "i'm sorry that i've strung you along, i really am, but...sam...you have me."

TAGGED: CARLY NOTES: yay muse. --- IT felt like ages ago, when they had been just friends hanging around new york city between rehearsals or filming. lily was almost always with them wherever they went. they'd go to parks, they'd go shopping, they'd be walking down the street. it was public domain and with a professional celebrity dancer and a movie star, there were usually cameras everywhere they went. even if sam was in love with her during that time, there was never too much affection that was captured. sure, there was arms over shoulders, or arms around each other as they hugged goodbye, but those were easily translatable to things friends did, even if the public thought, or wanted to think, otherwise. he was always so careful when they stepped out of the apartment. at red carpet events, they'd get their picture taken together plenty of times, and sam always wanted to act casual. they always fronted the 'we're just friends' wall, though that had been true to her. but now that they were sorta kinda together, sam wanted nothing more than to just walk down the street holding hands. sam did wonder if they were just going to keep the excuse that they were friends, even if their relationship right now was heading towards perhaps a romantic relationship. sam always liked to keep his personal life private, but he never lied when asked something, (despite the assumed running lie about him and carly.) he didn't want to be one of those super private celebrities, but maybe that was because he grew up in the industry.
and he knew he was twenty two, but he enjoyed the days that were just like this. where he felt... he didn't know how to put it, but it felt normal and family-like. it was rare at young ages to feel like this, and in hollywood, even rarer. he knew what people thought of actors his age, he had friends that were engaged or the like. people would be like 'oh, they're too young for that' and 'something like that won't last.' and sam knew in ten years, he wouldn't be the same person he was in his early twenties. no one around him would be the exact same person. he'd still be friends with some, and not even be talking to others. it may be sad, but it was also life. however, there were things that he didn't want to change and that was how he felt for carly and possibly the way she could feel about him. and sam would fight for something like that because he cared deeply.
sam sat down next to carly on the lounge chair. she started explaining to him that she was only intrigued by jamie, and the guy had no connection with lily which sam, clearly did. he smiled when she said he was basically like lily's father. he really did love that little girl. sometimes, he did feel like she was his daughter. though she had been calling him daddy for some time now, he always thought she just saw him as a friend that was always around. "i could fall in love with you." sam looked up at her as she ran a hand through her hair. yeah, it was something he wanted to hear. she's known that he loved her for awhile now and it was only slightly weird that sam was completely in love with her while she was just starting to look at him as someone other than a friend. that's why he was usually hesitant these past few weeks on making the first initiative. because well, if it was up to him, there would be more than just kissing. sam shook his head. "no, no. i haven't felt strung along. i've been waiting for the past couple years. i think i could have managed a couple months," he smiled at her. sam reached for her hands and held them with his own. he looked her in the eyes and took on a more serious expression. "i just... i don't want you to feel like you're settling for the 'safe' guy." it was clear that this jamie kid was a lot more... oh he didn't know; more mysterious, brooding, darker, with the criminal edge... to name a few. and that was the complete opposite of everything sam was. he knew what he was and that was safe and reliable. he offered another small smile and let go of her hands. "but i am glad that i have you," he said and leaned in to give her another kiss, his hand tucked around the nape of her neck. he didn't initiate often, but now that he was, he really wanted to show carly what he has been holding back.

carly understood his hesitation. he deserved to be wary. for the longest time sam had thought he was the second choice and carly wasn't proud to admit that on more than one occasion that may have been true. she didn't like it. she didn't like what she had been doing to these two men but they'd both meant something to her, both in different ways. jamie had excited her, gotten her blood pumping. he made her angrier than a hornet's nest and then turned her on like she'd never felt before. he was strange, new, and exciting and that was why carly lusted after him but that was all it was, lust. she cared about him in a way but it wasn't a way that could justify her putting her life and her daughter's life at risk. carly just couldn't surrender the safety of her child and when push came to shove no amount of helping out the bad boy could sway her decision. lily came first. lily would always come first. and when jamie factored intot he equation she no longer came first. jamie was the epitome of carly's fantasies and he could give her every thrill in the book but he couldn't give her a life. she wanted more than something that would just last as long as the danger did and she couldn't see something with jamie lasting all that long. whether he drank himself into a coma, got himself killed, or got carly or lily killed, either way when jamie was involved things just didn't end well. carly wasn't stupid. she knew that a fairy tale ending was pretty much out of the question but that didn't mean that her story had to end in blood, guts, fear, and pain. she couldn't surrender herself like that and she couldn't do the same for her daughter either. lily was her world. anyone else who factored in did so after lily and jamie just changed that. it wasn't a healthy way for a mother to think. there was thinking in order to be selfish and thinking in order to be selfless.
sam had done nothing but be selfless. he'd given up absolutely everything for carly and lily and she knew that. she now saw that everything he'd pretty much ever done had been for the two of them and because of his love for them both. carly didn't have to wonder if things would work out with him and lily because it already did. there was no gray area there. he chose them both and maybe he was the safer option, but when was that ever a bad thing. this wasn't a movie. someone didn't write her life out to end in some fairy tale sort of way where all the pieces magically fit back together and she and sam went riding off into the sunset. this was her life we're talking about here. hers and the life of her child all depended on the decision she made which had to be for the benefit of everyone involved. how could she not chose the man who would love them both, care for them both, and protect them both from whatever kind of dangers life had to offer.
carly liked this more hands-on version of sam she was seeing. honestly the only time she'd seen him this bold was when he'd confessed his feelings on her couch during a disney movie. carly had to admit that she liked it, a lot. "sure you're the safe guy but you were never a safe choice. sam, i wouldn't tell you that i care about you just so you wouldn't stick around and be the good guy. you already are the good guy but that's beside the choice." she paused for a minute, frustrated by her lack of eloquence. "it's because you're so good. you care about me when you don't have to and you're a father to my daughter when no one asked you to be. so yeah you're a good guy but i chose you because i want to be with you, not because you're some safe bet or sure thing. because i want to be with you too." she hoped her words were enough for him. they weren't cutting it as far as she was concerned but she just couldn't seem to find the words right enough to make her feel better about getting her point across. "i do want you, more than i can apparently get across. your friendship meant the world to me back when i thought that was all you wanted and now that i know the truth i see it all. i see where you showed me that you cared about me and i just couldn't see it for what it was. i just hope that i can repay you the same kindness." she wanted to love the right one for once but she couldn't force it and carly knew that. she just needed the time.

TAGGED: CARLY NOTES: yay muse. --- THE idea that sam was the safe guy crossed his mind several times. he was the friend that was always there, someone who could provide the stability needed, the one who never got his hands dirty, the one that walked on the straight path. he lived in the comfort of a family that had provided him with whatever he needed growing up. not that he was one of the snotty over-privileged kids of beverly hills, but sam just didn't know hardship. sometimes, sam did feel inadequate because of this. there was things he couldn't understand, he knew that, but he wanted to. he could play characters that lived through things that didn't make sense or were hard, but that was different. or, at least to sam it was. he wasn't those characters. he hadn't lived a life of crime, and there was a sense of exciting danger that came with that, sam saw the allure. he hadn't had much more than a speeding ticket in his name. sam just... had his doubts. he was wondering if she was what he needed, but he wasn't what she needed.
but, she made him feel better. he wasn't the safe choice. he smiled. he liked hearing that. he was a father when he didn't have to be. sam never saw that as a burden or a compromise to be with carly. no. it was a gift. "you've had me mesmerized," sam told her. "from the moment we met." he cupped the side of her cheek with his hand. what if this between them wouldn't work out? would they even be able to be friends again? sam didn't know. he wasn't quite sure if they would be able to. he loved her too much to be able to go back to friends again. the thing was, there was always love in their friendship. but remember, there was a difference in loving somebody and being in love with somebody. sam was in love with carly, and he probably had been before he even acknowledged it to himself. sam just started to realize it when he would be on set all day and he couldn't wait to get back to their apartment and hang out with her and lily or watch a movie together before they'd have to get up the next day and do their jobs.
of course, they had their separate rooms and such, the apartment had been quite big, but paparazzi never saw it that way. leaving and going, sometimes together, he was sure that alone was half the reason they had been constantly linked over the past few years. but in reality, it was that they were just roommates. here at the inferno, their suites were separated by several floors, but the past couple weeks they were spending more time together in whatever suite. it did feel a lot of like it did when they were living in new york. like the old times, except for sam's very large elephant in the room holding a sign that said 'i love you.' at least he was really able to disguise his feelings. as carly said now that she could look back and see his subtle gestures. sam was actually thankful for that. he would read the occasional magazine, but never made a habit of it. pictures of the two at movie premieres, award shows, and hollywood parties would find themselves between the pages, with the columnists throwing in their two cents about his body language or their looks, thinking there was something. two bad, they were always right about him.
his arm was hooked under her neck and he pulled them both down on the lounge chair, which was only a tad small for two people. they made it work. "for you, i could wait a lifetime," he said, turning his head to look at her. he kissed her, getting her cheek. he liked this feeling. just the two of them laying here. "i have to go to los angeles tomorrow, then i'm filming some night scenes. but, i want to take you on a date." sam propped himself up on his elbow, facing her. "like, a real one. a normal date like were just two normal people." normal, ha. if only he knew what that felt like. he caressed her arm with his free hand. "now that you know how i feel, i can be quite the charmer," he said with a secret grin. "just you wait."

he was safe but carly liked that. she wasn't looking for someone to give her thrills. her life had been full of thrills enough. she didn't need someone to put her in danger. that was the complete opposite of what she needed. sure sam was safe, but that was exactly what carly was looking for when you got down to it. she wanted someone who she was proud to say was the father of her child and who was the love of her life. she wanted that. whenever she thought of the mysterious, faceless person who would care for her and her daughter for the rest of their lives, she didn't see someone who was taking them both skydiving or using them as human shields in a gunfight. she saw someone who wanted to tuck lily in at night and lay curled up next to carly. someone she could trust herself to fall asleep next to, not stay up the whole night worrying that some masked murderer was going to come bursting through that door. when she compared the two men who had been a part of her life in some way, shape, or form, it was sam who came out on top and carly didn't have that much of a problem with that. she wanted someone she could trust in her life and he had been that for her before she had even considered him in that position in the first place. she had trusted him as a best friend enough to move in with him and be roommates. who else would bring their daughter into a home to live with a complete stranger? carly only knew it was possible because he was trustworthy and because he was good with lily. she didn't need any other proof. any time she had ever seen sam with lily her eyes lit up and she hung on every word he said. similarly carly could see how much he cared about her and the way he was always looking out for her safety above all else. same was perfect and she was just now coming to realize that.
she heard him speak and smiled, she couldn't help but to smile any time she heard his compliments. she liked to hear those kinds of words. she liked to hear that someone appreciated ehr the way she thought she should be appreciated. carly was a damn good woman. she was a teen mom and she hadn't screwed up in some of the biggest ways that were common for teen moms. first of all she didn't have a second child with some backwoods redneck named bubba. she didn't go out partying to live up her twenties like other women her ages were doing who didn't have children. carly accepted the responsibility of being a mother. she had made the mistake and she faced the consequences. it wasn't that much of a consequence to be suffered through though. as much as there were times that she wanted to feel her age and wanted to go out and have fun, a lot of the time carly's definition of fun was being around her daughter and seeing her smile. it was lily's fault really. she was such a bright and smiley person that it was almost addictive to be in her presence. carly didn't mind staying home with her kid because she loved being around lily. there were hardly any times when carly felt overwhelmed by her daughter which tended to make her life easier. lily didn't throw a lot of tantrums or make a lot of outrageous demands that carly couldn't give in to. she had the most fun doing something simple like rolling a ball around the hotel suite or playing in the pool with some other children. she was pretty much the dream child. any other parent would drool over lily and how wonderful she was, going green with envy as they should rightfully do.
"but i really don't want you to have to wait that long." carly said quickly, finishing with a chuckle. she felt his kiss on her cheek and sighed, pressing her body against him. she looked up at him as he mentioned a full-fledged date and nodded. she really would like to try that. they never had done the date thing because they'd always just been friends. this sounded like something she could look forward to. "it's about time you took me out on a proper date." she teased him with a smirk. "oh you think so huh? i'm gonna love seeing you try." she challenged him with a smirk, cupping his cheek before she brushed her fingers through his hair. "you are by far the second best thing that has ever happened to me." she said honestly. there was no debate here. lily would always be number one in her heart but sam could really become a close second. in fact she wanted him to be that for her. she was looking forward to it.

TAGGED: CARLY NOTES: samly <3 and there was no plan to this post, it just happened xD --- JUST like this, he wanted to be. utter content. and right now? he felt like a normal twenty-two year old. tomorrow, he'd have to get up and resume his working life. sam wanted to groan just thinking of that. he was starting to get busy again, and he didn't like that. he hadn't realized how much of the lull he missed. the 'lull' being that time period where he wasn't working and he could relax. sure right now, he was filming another movie, but other than that he wasn't doing much, which was a surprise. usually he was doing promotions for a movie coming out he filmed the previous year, or reading the script for the next movie he was in. he knew it was a lot, but he had always been able to handle it. maybe sometimes get home exhausted, but he never felt overwhelmed. the balance was there, because this happened a lot in new york and he was always able to do his work, and still find time to hang out with carly and lily.
what loomed in the back of his head was the dates this movie now was going to wrap. unfortunately, he couldn't film forever. the movie itself wasn't a big action movie that had big sets and lots of cgi effects. sam would have to guess that this would be over in a couple weeks. then what? he was holed up in a spacious suite at the inferno, but it wasn't a home hell, it wasn't even an apartment really. sam couldn't really live in the inferno for the rest of his life. but valkyrie itself was carly's home. sam subconsciously pulled carly closer to him as she brushed her fingers through his hair, mentioning her interest in his charm for their proper date. "you are by far the second best thing that has ever happened to me." he grinned and looked down at her, one of his hands brushing along the middle of her back. "you and lily are my first," he said before kissing her. they were cute and flirty right now, but there was a lot of things going on now in sam's head. the biggest thing was, what was going to happen when the movie wrapped? sam could live here. it was close enough to los angeles that it essentially could be called a suburb.
but then what did that mean with everything else? he would say that they should just get an apartment. but now, that felt weird to say because they were sorta kinda maybe together, and it had just been easier to move in together as friends. would it be weird then as whole? even right now they were in their own suites separated by a few floors. but... he wanted this. he did the new york thing, it was good. but sam had been planning to move back to los angeles for awhile now, and what was the difference if it was a place two hours away? it sometimes took two hours traveling in los angeles anyway to get around town. as busy as new york was, he felt like los angeles was worse. hectic and chaotic all the time, he lived there most of his life anyway. as crazy and secretive as valkyrie could be, (he could see that even as an outsider) it still felt quiet to him. sam could possibly hear his agent or manager telling him that it was like he was settling, but so what if he was, right? his mother might mention he was only twenty-two, but since she loved carly and lily it wouldn't go beyond that. and, him and carly both led busy lives. she danced, he acted. both were occupations that were always on the move, and never really stood still.
so now sam was distracted. he pulled away to look at her. "i've been thinking," he started but paused. "well, only for the past five minutes because it only crossed my mind now. i'm done filming in two weeks." sam didn't want to damper the mood, but it was hard not to by saying that. he shook his head. and leaned back on the chair, sighing and rubbing his forehead with his hand. "and i don't want to leave, carly. especially if there is this possibility with you and me." the past couple months had been perfect, and they only gotten to this point the past week. it was just unfair. "i want to live here in valkyrie," he said with a definite nod. he wanted her to know that. "but i guess i just wanted to know how you felt about that."
