multiple character request for the pirates! everyone needs a little swagger!
hey, so i am anna. i have recently created a character who has been a part of a modern pirate crew for the past few years, about three and half to be specific. these are not the pirates with bad teeth and long dreadlocks(unless you pick a pb who has them). these are modern pirates, and while they might not be the 1600's type of pirate, they embody the same spirit. they grouped together three and half years ago. each have a role but all are skilled sailors/boatsmen as well as skilled fighters in one way or another. they sail the seas, drink a lot, laugh a lot, and are all incredibly greedy human beings with very lose moral compasses. what do they literally do? well, simple, piracy is defined as robbery or criminal violence committed at sea. they do both. they have robbed cruise ships, cargo ships, a few smaller government ships as well taking anything they want. they've killed many, left people stranded in life boats if they want to take the boat itself, usually they only do this with yachts or smaller but nice sailboats that they can sell once they dock. the crew has one large topsail schooner as their main ship, named the DAGGER MOON (click). in the dagger, they actually have a very small speed boat to it, so that when they approach their victim, they're either faster, or less noticeable approaching, usually both. and they have recently stolen a smaller modern sloop that they plan to sell in valkyrie, along with other cargo lifted from ships, keeping what they like most. obviously, since these people are all in small quarters with each other, they have learned to work together and live together well. they trust each other completely, and not many others. since thia and scotsman joined, the ENTIRE crew has picked up and learned american sign language to make communication with thia easier as well as not having to yell at each other than enemy ships could hear. they are true pirates in both technical definition as well as swagger, loud, vulgar, full of humor and laughter, love their freedom on the sea, greedy, and of course, heavy drinkers. the crew all, as a mark of solidarity have THIS jolly roger tattooed somewhere on their bodies, don't care where.

roberts has been a pirate the longest of the crew. while the crew works together very well if a decision needs to be made and they're split, roberts has the final say. roberts was born in Ardara, Ireland, a small coastal town. he grew up on sailboats and mastered the sport at a young age from his father, a single dad. they didn't have much money but he lived a fairly happy life until his father was so desperate for money that he agreed to smuggle drugs for the irish mob, but he was caught and killed while in prison from injuries he sustained from the guards. roberts was left without family and moved into a group home where he fell in with some of the wrong crowd. after getting involved with multiple different types of crime, growing more violent by the year, he took to the sea with some of his friends he had gained over the years. his name began to become well known about seven years ago. five years ago, he became first mate of a ship and he used his connections among the underground of the world to find the guards who killed his father. he killed seven guards that were on their shifts at the time of his father's murder, just to make sure he got the man who took the deadly blow. four years ago, he was attacked by the navy, he got out of it but his ship and captain were beyond repair. him and a few of his old crew that stayed with him, technically the new captain, found a new ship, he named it the Dagger Moon and picked up two new ship mates before taking to the sea again, surprised that the Scotsman and the deaf girl with him and his mates made a very capable crew, more successful than ever. not a bad three years for his first time as a full fledged captain.

avery has known roberts the longest. he was part of the old crew with roberts before they got the Dagger Moon. he is second in command, but is also a valued member for his expertise. out at sea, if one of the crew is injured or gets sick, avery is there to help. he keeps the boat stocked with a variety of supplies for his work. he was born to an upper class family of doctors. his father was a doctor, his father's father was a doctor, and so on and so forth. growing up upper class and on the ocean side, his family owned many sailboats which was wear he learned sailing. incredibly intelligent, he was attending medical school by 22. when he was 23, still a med student, he was falsely accused of raping a patient. his family disowned him and he ran from the law. when he heard of a crew looking for a person with the skills of physician or surgeon, he offered himself up under his new name, avery. that was when he learned he offered his service to pirates but bitter from his status with the law, he didn't care and became one of them. he has worked with, been friends with and greatly respected roberts for the last six years. he is the only one of the crew who has never taken a life, only ever saved them. he can fight, but he still has a doctors soul and cannot bring himself to kill. the crew respects this as long as he respects that they are not that way, which he does.

drake is the gunner. drake worked with roberts, avery and ward on the previous ship. the gunner's job was classically to watch the ammo, make sure gun powder for the canons remained dry and things like that but since they don't use canons he is the modernized version of a gunner, namely a weapons specialist. ex-mercenary, the man knows his guns. weapons enthusiast, he knows a lot of other fun little toys and how to use them. he is probably the most dangerous man of the group, ruthless and cutthroat but he is loyal to roberts and likes everyone on the ship well enough. he has a soft spot for thia, can be protective. drake is the man who makes sure they have the best and most practical weapons for the job, makes sure they stay in good shape, cleans them, keeps track of them, etc. drake's past is a mystery to most everyone on the ship, or at least not highly detailed. all they know is that he was a mercenary for three years before he joined the old crew with roberts at age 23, and before being a mercenary, he had traveled and seen a lot. one thing is for certain, drake grew up around violence and a lot of it. he never had anything close to a white picket fence, but most of them are convinced he must have grown up with combat styled violence, not just bad neighborhood or abusive daddy figure but living on battlegrounds. drake is liked by everyone in the crew but he is also the one they all love to bicker with, especially ward. probably the most dangerous man on the crew to make angry.

the striker is an incredibly important member of the crew for long distance sailing. strikers are expert hunters who were responsible for catching most of the crews food. ward would have to be an expert fisherman, setting traps, using the nets. when docked the striker is responsible for loading up on meat, fruits, vegetables, cheese, bread and booze. most of the meat, ward gets for the crew tends to be meat she/he hunted themselves, why waste the money in ward's opinion. a striker is also a capable fighter. their job on the ship is to fish, hunt, and fight. ward grew up in a hunting family in a very rural, wooded area. she was never squeamish about blood, or guts, and was fast at skinning a dear. she grew up to be incredibly skilled. she has always had a thrill seeker quality to her. always needs to find the next big rush, outdoorsy type, kayaking off waterfalls, white water rafting, hang gliding, rock climbing, sky diving and a million other things. she loved the danger in life, feels like that's where the excitement is. when ward was 17, she was interested in learning to shoot with hand guns, ward's family didn't care but also didn't have a permit for the handgun. ward was caught with the hand gun and convicted of illegal possession of a firearm, and served one year in jail. family being important to ward, she did not rat out her family. the year changed ward. she was still the thrill junkie, fun, care free, family oriented person but these traits seemed to be intensified, like now that she was out, she needed to live life as much as possible. she also seemed to stop worrying about hurting people, there was a quiet anger in her, probably from how many times she was attacked and had to fight in jail. ward stayed with her family for a year before deciding she needed to travel and see the world. about five years ago, ward joined a pirate crew and met roberts, avery and drake. loved the job, loved the adventure. she was the most excited for thia and greaves to join up three years ago, mostly because she have never met another girl involved in piracy. they are close, and ward has a tendency to act like an older sister to thia at times. bickers a lot with drake, but who doesn't?

cynthia airaldi, known as thia or by her sign name which is the c shaped hand turning into the sign for moon. she and greaves are new to piracy compared to the others. thia is the navigator, it is her job to make sure they know where they are and where they're going. she has always been good at using her eyes and the wind to predict weather conditions. they have been out in some bad storms, always come out okay, with relatively little damage. she is good with maps and direction. she also works as the lookout. the only deaf crew mate, she communicates mostly through sign language which the rest of the crew picked up. she has perfect vision, and is more observant than most, along with a photographic memory and her ability to read lips from a distance as long as she can get a close enough look, even through binoculars, makes her valuable when it comes time for the actual attack. when they are comfortably on their own, while thia will keep a look out at night, the night owl she is, she is the gunner's mate, meaning she is learning his job in case for any reason he may not have the ability to at a future date. thia was born into the italian mafia but ran away when she was 15, sick of being treated like she was made of glass. worked with a circus scam group where she met greaves and improved her physical skills, such as mixed martial arts and acrobatics, as well as other fighting techniques, while there she improved her shooting, learned sword play and throwing and fighting with daggers. as the acrobatic one on the ship, you will usually find her hanging out somewhere, many feet above the deck in the masts and ropes.

the scotsman on the crew, greaves has known airaldi the longest, having been with her for the past five years. he was what roberts was really looking for when he hired him and thia. this role is essential to the long running of a ship, a person who is handy capable to fix the ship in anyway if it gets damaged while they're out there. almost all modern sailboats are equipped with motors if some happens to the sails, he makes sure the motor stays sharp and working. if there is a leak, greaves on it. if they need a knew rig set up, greaves is there. he is good with his hands. he is also the man who put together the rig on the boat's deck that allows a small speed boat to remain attached, relatively out of the way. greaves is a scottish man, grew up in the highlands. he grew up an orphan, ran away from his group home when he was eight, ended up grouping with a team of runaways. lived on the streets, became a pick pocket. he was caught when he was eleven trying to steal from the pockets of a boat maker. the boat maker agreed not to press charges if they boy worked off emotional damages by working for him as an apprentice. ended up being the best thing to happen to greaves. the man fed him, gave him a place to sleep and taught him all about boating, sailboats, motorboats, even canoes. he taught them positives and negatives of designs, how to keep them up. the boat maker was an older gentleman, he died when greaves was 17, the shop was taken away and given to the government and greaves was once again left without home or job. he eventually used his pick pocketing skills to work for a circus scam. as they performed, him and some other cleaned the pockets of distracted guests. that's where he met thia, they became close friends. when she left because she wanted more, he went with her. three and half years ago, they joined with roberts and the others and became pirates. he was just happy to use the skills the old man taught him.
