[/I] Not many people knew this about Alice, but she has an odd fear of being alone. Sometimes it’s a rational fear, other times it’s irrational. At this very moment, it was highly irrational. There was no point in being afraid after reading a book about ultra-violence. There was no point in being afraid after reading a book that was written in the sixties. At this very moment, she was yearning for a tall man to come along and hold her tight and run with her to her car. At this very moment, she wanted a big dog to walk around with. Alice wasn’t ready to be alone in the dark, even for only fifteen minutes.
A CLOCKWORKORANGE
Many people think Stephen King is scary, maybe even R.L. Stein. Sometimes William S. Burroughs, but Alice would beg the differ. During her time at the café, she was reading the well renowned book A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. Although there really is nothing spooky about the book, the actions portrayed by the main character is revolting and absolutely immoral. We’re talking about rape, alcohol consumption and murder. Things that actually happen on the streets of Valkryie. Granted, Alice dealt with a lot of the gang members around here since she was a huge pot dealer, but having the knowledge that any lunatic at any moment can just snatch her and kill her scares her to near death. So while sitting at the café with her iced vanilla latte, her eyes made fleeting glances from the pages to her surroundings. A crash from the back table made her flinch, a sneeze from the booth in front of her made her jump and a woman’s screeching laugh made Alice uncomfortable. So what she chose to do was to walk to her car and drive back to her apartment where she felt nice and safe. After chugging the rest of her latte, she stuffed the horrid book in her black backpack and ran her little feet out of the café. People may have stared as she darted out of the place as fast as a buzzing fly to a pile of feces. Darting through the door and onto the street, she looked up and noticed that the full moon was staring straight at her. The only thought that had ran through her mind was the fact that it was night time. After observing the silver disk in the sky, she began to walk up the sidewalk to her sky blue VolksWagon Beetle. Walking in her tall heels, she began to speed up her pace as she heard footsteps behind her. Her paranoia set in, she didn’t realize that there were other people around her and it was only ten in the evening.
Walking fast as possible in her high heels, she made sure that she was paying attention to everything around. Ironically enough, he paranoia wasn’t set on by marijuana or alcohol, but her own natural brain chemistry. Every time she tripped in a rise in the concrete she ran faster, every time she hear a bang in an alley she sprinted and every time she heard people walk out of doors she ran even faster. Alice hadn’t noticed how far she had walked away from her car. But she also didn’t account the fact that earlier on that day she was with friends. The thoughts that popped through her head while her tiny feet stepped after one another were unthinkable. I’m going to get raped, I know I am. I should just use the pocket knife in my jacket pocket and stab the fucker. Wait, what if I get abducted or get the living shit beaten out of me? I’m never reading A Clockwork Orange ever again. I’m so gonna get raped. Where’s a gun when you need it?
Clang, meow, screech! Alice ran and fell to the floor after tripping on a rise from the sidewalk. She scraped her knees on the floor. ”That’s fucking awesome. I’m so gonna get raped.” She uttered to herself as she looked at her knees. Her right knee was covered in dark red blood with a black center. She quickly got up and started to limp up the street some more. The thing with Alice is when she’s scared, nothing stops her from escaping. A fire couldn’t get in her way if she was being chased by a serial killer. She was determined to stay away from the things that scared her the most. But little did she know that within a few seconds her knee would send a jolt of pain throughout her entire leg. Limping and grunting, a Charlie horse swam through her muscles and an electric shock of pain stabbed into the hole in her knee. A loud psssss came from her mouth. Finally she just sat there and rested for a few moments. ”I’m going to get kidnapped or something like that. What the hell, Alice? You honestly need to stop wearing heels.” She spoke to herself. After mentally beating herself up, she forced herself to stand and began to pivot. But as soon as she turned around like an ungraceful ballerina, she fell backwards until someone had caught her. Like a skittish kitten, she screeched like a banshee with fear of being hurt. But as soon as she opened her tear filled eyes, she realized that there was nothing to be afraid of.[/font]
