------ Home. Oh god, it sounded good to think about. Benny had not been home to see the majority of his family in at least a year. He had been able to see a few here and there of course, especially when it came to business but he had not been able to find an excuse for his rather, cut-throat agent to go back to the Giovanni mansion and see his favorite people. You see, family was not just a word to him. It was his center. He loved them. He resented them. He annoyed them. And they loved him. He knew who he was, he knew he had never exactly been one of those men who were good at being serious at all but this was one of those subjects he was never kidding about. He loved families, his most specifically. Might be surprised though, Benny's family was not your average white picket fence sort of group. Benny's Uncle ran the whole show. His name was Fausto Giovanni, the Don of the Italian Mafia. He might be the godfather to some but to Benny he was just Uncle Fausto. The whole family was in on it. Benny's own twin brother, Luca, was an active participant. A few have turned away but Benny could not understand that. He could understand turning away from the business, he had, sort of. But turning away from the entire family was not something he tolerated well. It was one of the few things that got him angry. But Benny's other uncle, Fausto's younger brother Tony, he did end up going the FBI route, would probably be difficult to stay close to your family in that situation.
------ Benny's deviation from the business was to an industry with little to no morality so it was fine. In fact, from some of the things he had seen people do, Benny was honestly one of the cleanest in the biz despite occasionally smuggling things across the board on his Uncle's request. Benny's full name was Benito DeMarco Giovanni, but he is more readily recognized as Benny G., the singer. Grammy Award winning Singer. He had won two the past two years, so he was happy. He did love it. And hey, people say Frank Sinatra had connections to the mob, if anything it increased his likability. Let's just say, Benny had no issue being compared to Sinatra, which he was, a lot. Not for the rumored mob connections, so far he had heard none of those, yay for keeping secrets well, but for his voice. Benny had a smoother, more old fashioned voice. He had always been a fierce fan of lounge styled music. He sang a lot of music that Sinatra happened to sing in his time as well. The Great American Songbook, right? And while Benny's covers were popular, really his big hits were his originals. He had been singing since before he could speak, at least that is what his mother and father always told him. God! He couldn't wait to be a father. Benny was certain it would be the one thing he was better at than singing. He would sing lullabies, teach the kid to play ball, boy or girl doesn't matter.
------ Oh and Hockey of course. Now, if it's a girl, his wife, her mother could do the birds and the bees. But boy, he would be cool giving the "talk." Although, not gonna lie, he would probably use a sports metaphor. Like, American football. The woman is the ball, the men are the players. They all fight for her, because she's special, when you have her, hold on tight till the end, but don't choke it too much or it'll squeeze out from your hands and while everyone wants a touchdown, it's important to pace yourself… yeah that works… right? It could work. He would find a way. Yeah, Benny wanted to be dad badly and he really was great with kids, but the problem? That's because he essentially was one. He didn't like negative emotions so he simply ignores them. He's not one for talking things out but more wants to pretend it never happened and play frisbee tag. He held a grudge until he didn't have the strength not to anymore. He would be the type to essentially stick fingers in his ears and sing to not hear you. He was always energetic, unless he was passed out from crashing from his energy highs that usually come out of eating massive amounts of sugar. And yet, every other night, there he was onstage, singing some of the classiest songs in the world and rocking a grown up suit like no other.
------ What can I say? He was a juicy contradiction.
------ Oh yes, but back to the point, Benny was finally getting to go home and see his family. Home had been so many places but for the past few years it was in a city called Valkyrie, California. Beautiful beaches, beautiful people, lively night life while still having a small town feel of everyone knowing everyone. It was nice, and it was close to L.A. Benny had gotten his agent to agree to him coming was 1) she knew how badly he wanted to see his family, 2) it was close enough to LA that he could easily and quickly get to the studio and 3) Valkyrie recently suffered from an Earthquake. The earthquake was nothing compared to the 2011 Japan Earthquake, and no Tsunami was caused by it, but it was still largely damaging to the community. So, just as he had done for Japan, he was going to put together a large benefit concert for the city, to help rebuild. Or more, his agent was putting it together, he was simply one of the headliners. He was supposed to help organize but this is Benny, he had a short attention span. Benny was on the way from stopping at the hotel and changing into some clean clothes to the Giovanni mansion, oh yeah, haven't you heard, crime pays children. Benny wore a baseball cap and some sunglasses, taking a normal taxi not wanting to be followed to house. Stepping out of the taxi, he tipped the cab driver a fair deal before he drove off. Benny grinned and jogged up to the mansion. He didn't even bother buzzing in the gates and just waved at the familiar guard who let him in. Benny jogged right up to front door and entered, oh yeah, should mention, he didn't tell any of his family he was coming back. He looked around the large empty hallway and pulled the glasses off his face, hooking them on the collar of his t-shirt. He walked into one of the nearby rooms where he finally saw some familiar faces. He put his arms out in mock shock, "I've been gone almost a year and this is the welcome I get?" He asked with warmth in his tone and a smirk on his face.
