---WHEN SHILOH LAWSON HAD FIRST ROLLED INTO TOWN WITH HER BEST FRIEND, avery, she remembered seeing the sign downtown that read "kane's repair shop." she remembered every detail of the sign, right down to the color and white parts of the letters needed to be touched up. perks of a photographic memory. the sign had stuck with her for a while before, recurring in her head every day as they looked around for some apartment. she wanted a job there, because well, it was one of the best looking car shops she'd seen since her arrival, and she only heard praise about it. if you needed your car fixed, that was the place to go. well, shiloh was pretty handy with cars and fixing things. she was good with her hands, take that how you will, ladies and gentlemen. it was true though. she had been working with cars since she was a kid, and due to her eidetic memory, she was quite talented at what she did. cars were her thing, so why not get a job at an auto repair shop? shiloh wasn't even sure that whoever this mr. kane was was hiring, but she didn't really care. she'd ignored the urge to show up and ask for a few days. she and avery needed to figure out their living situation. she used to own a house in middle class suburbia of valkyrie, but she sold it around four years ago when she had left because it held too many bad memories. she could see every detail of every memory she never wanted to relive in her head, so she didn't need a more substantial, solid reminder to haunt her. shiloh wasn't in denial. she hated her past, she knew it screwed with her, and she knew she wasn't over it. losing both your parents wasn't something people typically got over with ease, especially when it almost seemed like your own fault. her mom commit suicide on shiloh's birthday. that wasn't something that would affect a normal teenage girl in a positive way. it felt like her fault. so that was how she'd ended up leaving valkyrie, well after overdosing and being shipped off to rehab, but she just never came back.
why was she back in valkyrie? that was the million dollar question. she and avery had been scamming people all over the u.s.a out of their hard earned cash, now it was the west coast's turn. valkyrie was familiar. maybe that was why she came back. maybe she wanted avery to see where she came from. maybe she wanted to prove she was better, stronger. maybe she just didn't have a good enough reason. she loved valkyrie as a child, and despite everything it was the only home she ever had. that was the only real reason she could think of. that and it was easier, and cheaper, to live out here rather than in the heart of los angeles where most of her business wouuld take place. there were more targets there, and less familiar faces. it was a close and convenient location, and hell, valkyrie california may be a cest pool for the worst people she'd ever met, but it was beautiful, she would give the god forsaken city that. it had a lovely landscape, and breathtaking views. the beach was almost as gorgeous as the insane amount of attractive people wandering around the town, and not only that, but the waves were good.one thing she had missed during her escapades on the east coast was the west coast beaches. the east was so much cold, and the sand was rockier. granted, the atlantic was naturally warmer than the pacific, but california never got nearly as cold as massachusetts did. so in a sense, aside from her neverending love for australia, the west coast was her favorite place to be, but it had almost felt forbidden to return the past few years, like she wasn't welcome after abandoning it. it was a weird sentiment, but she needed to start a new part of her life before she could return to the old one without falling to pieces, and this time she had avery, so she should be good to go, right? support system and everything. it was nice to have somebody now a days that she was sure wouldn't leave her. avery was the closest thing she had to family since her dad died. she felt like she could rely on the girl more than she ever could have relied on her good for nothing mother. maybe being back in valkyrie wouldn't be so bad after all. they'd gotten an apartment on the beach, even if it was a little shabby, and she was was about to get a job at some auto repair shop that seemed to be renowned around here. she didn't remember it being around when she lived in valkyrie, but hell, she was sort of in a daze those last few years.
it was early afternoon by the time she finally convinced herself to roll out of bed. she couldn't remember if she had showered yesterday or not, so she decided to shower for the sake of not coming off as a total slob. the outfit, well, she didn't bother being professional because quite frankly, if it didn't work out, she was going to hit the beach. she threw on her clothes, pulling a black beanie over her loose blonde curls as a final touch before grabbing her purse and heading out the door. she hated walking, so she hopped into the old car she and avery had been driving around the past couple years. they had enough money to get a new, nicer one, but they just hadn't gotten around to it yet. in fact, shiloh could probably fix up some vintage model for them had she the desire or motivation to do so. on the way to the repair shop, she stopped by the store and bought a couple of shot glasses as well as a nice bottle of vodka. nothing screamed hire me like fine liquor. she'd heard about this mister kane after prying a bit, ad he didn't seem like the conventional owner either. maybe it would lead to a beautiful coworkership. it didn't take her long to arive there, and she pulled her car up into it. it probably would have been proper etiquette to ring the bell at the front desk, but she wandered right in, straight to the garage where she saw some guy working under a piece of junk. well, that must be him, "hey, ej kane?" she called out. as he pulled out from under the car she held up the vodka in one hand and the shot glass in the other, "i'm here to discuss a job?" she grinned snarkily, raising her eyebrows.
