----WE ALL KNEW BY NOW THAT LUCA DIDN'T REALLY THINK THINGS THROUGH. he was more of look before he leaped kind of guy. he had been since forever. after his talk with allie at the m lounge after he apparently screwed things up with maggie again, he realized he had been going about this all wrong. in the beginning, he did know that he wasn't as sensitive towards her than he should of been. he didn't realize that he really screwed up bad with her. how he left, why he left, why he didn't talk to her in that span of years. he knew he was a terrible husband, but allie really put it in perspective for him. he was guilty. above all, he didn't even want to see his family. they knew he was back in town because of fausto, but he didn't want to face them. he just stayed in the inferno. coming back to the initial thought that luca didn't think things through was that currently in the loft he once shared with maggie, there was a poker game going on. but as always, there was logic behind this.
luca told maggie he wasn't going to talk to her unless it was in public, or at least with witnesses. they couldn't just talk one on one yet. there was too much old sexual emotion that had been stored up over the years between them. they couldn't talk. so, while at the inferno, he ran into his old boston pal, jamie collins. the irony with being good friends with jamie was that jamie worked for the russians; luca for the italians. you could see where they might be a problem there, but the two decided they liked being friends and as long as they didn't try killing each other, they'd just keep the friendship under the radar from their superiors. other than jamie, there was also emmett, who was also his friend. rounding it out was another giovanni. another cousin to luca and everyone else, lorenzo. in luca's mind, it seemed like a good enough group to be around when luca tried to talk to maggie again. so, he invited them to a "guy's night" where they could play some poker and have a few beers. the way luca planned it, maggie would come home, and luca would just take her aside and really talk to her. the plan had flaws, but since maggie was refusing to answers his calls or answer his texts, he had to do it unexpectedly. at this point, it was the only way to get her attention.
so here were the four boys, sitting around the table, the last of the beer almost gone, but none of them were the least bit drunk. it was just there to have something to do while playing the card game. luca was a little bit nervous. he already anticipated that she wouldn't be too happy to come home to a group of guys, but this was her surprise after not returning his calls. he would have been more than happy to meet her at some restaurant or coffee shop or somewhere. the longer they put off this talk the harder it would be to put off his family. and it wasn't just about his family. it was all about her. he just wanted to move back in. he just wanted to be with her. the weird thing was that from what he picked up from her the day he went to the m lounge, she didn't want him to leave. maybe they would have been ok, but he would have gone on the way he was. allie, unfortunately, put it in perspective to him to the point where he knew he really did do the right thing. he wanted maggie and him to be great again.
they had been playing for a couple hours by now, and the minutes were ticking away as the night went on. "just remember," luca said as he was dealt a new hand, "when maggie comes in, just continue playing while i go talk to her." the thing about this was he was only expecting her to come home. little did luca know the soon-to-be shitstorm he created with the combination of people that'd be in the loft.

-----------------------------------------------------------JANUARY 2012. EVENING. GIOVANNI LOFT.
----------------------------------------------------------- ,HE DIDN'T SOCIALIZE...ever. keeping a social calendar was not something jamie collins was familiar with. especially not in a town he wasn't familiar with. valkyrie, california was, to him, like new york or chicago or toronto or wherever he happened to find himself: unimportant and soon to be in the rearview mirror. his skin was beginning to itch of it. he wanted to be gone. yesterday. he wanted to be gone long before yesterday. and he definitely wanted to be gone before he had a social calendar to keep. it was not something he did, stick around long enough to make friends. what was the point? someone ended up dead or pissed off. and he had better things to do, thanks. the plan had been to land in valkyrie, clean up whatever mess had been made, and go back home. to boston. to stay there for awhile. and then, if he wanted, he could have a social calendar to keep.
but no. this night made it seem like he was intending on staying. seeing people outside of work. interacting like it was something normal. drinking beer and playing poker and chatting about work and women and whatever else guys talk about. this was the kind of night he could spend at home. in boston. if he chose to. not here, in valkyrie, in a loft with people he shouldn't have even considered aquaintences. do you have any fucking idea what the verrenteninkovs' would do if they knew he, james collins, was sitting in a room with more than one giovanni and wasn't busy shooting them? the thought caused a wry smirk to cross his face. it almost made the fact he was still here bearable. that, and the fact that his own family would find it odd as fuck. the little kid part of him stuck his tongue out. uh yeah, he had friends if he wanted to have friends. so you can shut the hell up and go home. this exactly what his life had been five years ago, with the troublemakers of charlestown. poker, beer, cigarettes. talk about work and women. normalcy, even if it was for a night. all of that made it okay that he was still here.
pushing up the sleeves of his shirt, jamie arched an eyebrow and inspected his surroundings. this was absurdley normal, given the amount of lives taken thanks to these four wastes of space. criminals, that's what all of them were. scum-sucking liars with guns. and that's what made him chuckle sardonically. throwing his cards onto the table, he leaned back in his chair, unlit cigarette in hand. "i fold." his awkwardly accented voice was amused, borderline entertained. he hadn't played poker since he was seventeen, and hadn't paid much attention to the rules since. he fucking sucked. two turns in, he was done, shoving his dwindling pile of coins and bills into the center of the table. next time, they were playing blackjack. or...i dunno, hearts. his mom had taught him hearts when he was seven, and he'd been the master of the girl game ever since. or chess, or checkers. anything but poker. pushing his chair back onto its rear two legs, he watched the game continue. "so," pausing to light his cigarette, jamie eyed luca with the same ironic smirk. "you're saying this is a set-up to piss off your girl. and we, the pawns," he motioned around the table with his burning cancer stick, "are supposed to act completely innocent and wonder why the hell you two are fighting?" he flicked ash into the air, ignoring any protests to his smoking.
continuing to watch as the game progressed, jamie only moved to relight his cigarette or to drink the rest of his beer. he should have elected himself referee or something. the level of his brilliance at being bad at poker was astonishing. he could write a book. every round so far, he'd been out in five turns or less. like i said, they're playing hearts next time. well, it could have been worse. his time could have been wasted concentrating on the game, as opposed to playing verbal tennis with himself and commenting on everything he thought of. it was fun, no one telling him to shut the fuck up quite yet. or, in this case, punch him or threaten to shoot him. it was all so hilariously ironic, even he found it to be so. "i really do appreciate how tenth grade this is. take no offence, luc. but are you at least getting hate sex out of it?" clutching the neck of his half-empty bottle, another cigarette hanging from the same hand, he grinned devilishly. "being an embarrassment at poker allows me to be irritating. sorry." he found the whole thing highly entertaining now. later, well, probably not. SOME SAY YOU'RE TROUBLE BOY, JUST BECAUSE YOU LIKE TO DESTROY ALL THE THINGS THAT BRING AN IDIOT JOY SO WHAT'S WRONG WITH A LITTLE DESTRUCTION. . . . . . . HE HAD A DOG. He finally had a dog. Lorenzo could not contain himself. It had been a month or so, but he was still as excited as he was when he first brought the puppy home. His puppy was a great dane, though right now, it was exactly that, a puppy. Kitty went every Lorenzo went, they were inseparable. Why Kitty, you may ask? The sole reason was that now at his house he had the sign, ‘BEWARE OF KITTY.’ It was the mere hilarity of the moment, he had seen some people, especially the post man come up to his door, and then be greeted by a large puppy. He enjoyed the appalled expressions of strangers when Kitty would run towards them. Lorenzo was a man of simple pleasures, really. And it was no surprise that this particular Giovanni brought his dog to the ‘guys only’ poker night, and it wasn’t like he was breaking any rules, technically since his pup was male, he, the dog, counted. The younger Giovanni currently in the room was not just a dog lover, but he was also a people person. He was a social butterfly, except, he hated butterflies, they were indecisive creatures who underwent change inside of a chrysalid for a long period of time. Who makes that kind of a commitment to one cocoon? He preferred to be called a social hummingbird, mostly because hummingbirds consumed their body weight in nectar every so hours, and it was no joke that Lorenzo was always hungry.
However, He enjoyed the company of others, as simple as that. It did help that the boy had this carefree charm that would turn on automatically. He could not explain it, and at first he never knew he had a charm until he friend pointed it out. He was polite, sweet and funny, he supposed with the right amounts that turned into charm. Now, he was fun and charming, some qualities that were considered great, but when he was doing his job, Lorenzo pulled a complete 180. It wasn’t that he was trying to be different, or that he was trying to be intimidating, it just happened. His rage came out full force, Lore could only function in tunnel vision, and most of the time he couldn’t completely recall what he just did. It was scary, how he changed into this monster when he was ‘teaching someone a lesson.’ Thank god he had a social life to fall back on, such as this fail of a poker game. When Luca talked about his makeshift plan, his eyes quickly flashed up towards his cousin. Really, that was the best Luca could come up with? “So you want witnesses at the murder trial? And here I thought we were going to avoid bloodshed for once...”
Lorenzo muttered to himself, glancing at his cards. He won the last couple rounds, but right now, his hand wasn’t looking too hot. But alas, he wasn’t much of a poker player, blackjack was more his speed. It was simple too, which was nice, and it didn’t quite require such a stern face to play. He hated being serious and sombre, but he also hated losing just as much. The boy was too competitive for card games, or even most board games. His nose crinkled up subtly before he sighed, very much unimpressed, “I fold. Damn it Collins, you’re bad luck is rubbing off on me.” Throwing his hand of cards down on the table, his palms rested on the edge of the table for a bit before he pushed himself away. Man, he was hungry. In a sweeping motion, Lorenzo stood up, stretching his arms and cracking his neck a little. In a few short strides he was in the kitchen, the refrigerator swung wide open as he tried to put together something edible. Walking back to his seat with another beer and a hearty sandwich, he turned towards the only girl in the loft. It was surprising that Jamie would even consider bring her here. It wasn’t like Luca, Lore and Emmett were particularly bad people, it was what they did that was frowned upon. But this girl, Carly, seemed sweet enough, but deathly silent though. “Hey Carly, did you want something? You’ve been awfully quiet, we don’t bite... Shoot, yes, but biting is for savages,” He laughed, hoping that it would ease this girl up a little. Well, at least Kitty seemed to take a liking to her, for he had curled up right beside the broad. He was always the jovial one, joking about the highly illegal, multiple life sentences inducing work the boys did. It’s all about making them laugh, right? Lorenzo was going to say something else when he heard the familiar clicking of the door knob moving. His eyes immediately stuck to the door, taking another sip before he looked towards his shit-out-of-luck cousin, “Shit son. I think she’s coming, Lucs...” He took a deep breath and began to count down from ten, hoping that his sister in law wasn’t going to spontaneously combust upon walking in. VALKYRIE, CALIFORNIA, GIOVANNI LOFT, EVENING, JANUARY 2012 -----this was insane. honestly it was totally and completely insane. what in the hell was she doing here? carly looked around with wide eyes, trying her damnedest to not freak the hell out but it really was hard to do. what would a normal person do in a situation like this? well someone normal who had the guts to actually pick up a phone might call the cops and let them know that about a centuries worth of criminal charges was just sitting around in a room for the taking but for someone like her? someone who was petrified as stone sitting on a couch watching a bunch of thugs playing poker? well what the hell was she supposed to do. carly wasn't used to things like this. she really wasn't she lived in a world where bad guys were avoided and you didn't surround yourself with them, though her attendance today was certainly not by choice. what? was this jamie getting back at her for having him guard her at premieres? was it some kind of retaliation for having to watch her in general? it wasn't like they hadn't had a good time at some point but still, did that really mean she needed to be dragged to a meeting of the blood-letters? bad enough she'd just found out that her best friend was a criminal and that because they'd said their hellos in the park she'd had a hit put out on her. that was bad enough. add to that having to tack jamie to her side and having to be toted around like a damn pet, and she was all-around pretty upset. she was freaked out, scared shitless, as well as supremely pissed and well, no one gave a shit. probably because the simplest solution for shutting her up should she complain would be a bullet between the eyes. she liked to think that maybe that would just ruin the moment, a bleeding body on the floor, but she didn't know this bunch and she didn't know what they were capable of. it was safe to say that she was completely out of place here. one of these things just didn't belong here and that thing was her, without. a. doubt.
had she had the power, her glare would have burned a hole in the back of jamie's head. how dare he bring her someplace like this? wasn't he supposed to be keeping her safe? she certainly didn't feel safe right now and honestly she wanted to take her frustrations out on him. it wasn't often that caroline isabelle sutton got violent, nor was it often that she even wanted to get violent. god were they rubbing off on her already? had she not thought putting her head in her hands would have brought attention to herself, she so would have. the saving grace was a warm little bundle of gray fur that was laying beside her, warming her feet as she sat with her knees bent, feet pulled to the side. her finger stroked over the soft fur as she listened to the relatively normal chatter amongst the men. she this was all a setup to incite some kind of riot from the wife of one of these guys? incite as in...piss her off? to the point that something might just jump start someone into a full scale mass murder? god she knew this night was going to be trouble the minute she'd gotten in the car with jamie and he'd refused to tell her where in the hell they were going. "oh please. you're always irritating." carly thought to herself as jamie spoke. this was ridiculous. why in the hell was she here? was she supposed to be some key witness when everyone dropped dead or was a tradition in mobster initiation to sacrifice a normal citizen in order for a productive year? alright so the last bit was a little eccentric. she was probably giving these people too much credit and was more or less just a tag-along in a bad situation. knowing jamie, that would be what he made her out to be. her name being said pulled her out of her funk as she looked up from the puppy to his owner, the guy was looking back at her with what appeared to be a sweet smile. carly nodded, about to say something when the room hear sounds coming from the door. suddenly she felt a need to have invested in a suit of kevlar. this wasn't going to be pretty.
--------------------------------------------------------
-----"no. no. no! i swear to go he said to me in this pathetic tone of voice 'don't kill me. i've got kids at home' and i was like, really? come the fuck on. like i don't do my research?" maggie said with a scoff as she pulled into the minute parking lot behind her loft. her loft. "how stupid could he be? i mean really. so you know how i don't like my intelligence insulted. let's just say he died a lot slower than he would have had he just accepted it." she shook her head, recalling amongst the girls some of the more ridiculous pleas for mercy she'd heard over the years. there had been many. still as she pulled the new model dodge charger into her usual parking spot she had to admit that for someone who had been running a lucrative drug business for over five years, she'd been relatively merciful as far as taking people out had gone. there weren't a high number of associates who had surrendered their lives to stupidity under her watch and there was a reason for that, maggie was one smart cookie. she put the car in park and got out, allie and bella sliding out of their seats as well. "but hey, i'm a nice gal. i at least ended his misery at some point." she smirked as she closed her door. maggie didn't revel in the killing of people unless they really deserved it and that snitch-y little bastard had tried getting information on her and the giovanni organization in order to turn a profit with rival mafias. somehow that just hadn't sat right with maggie and so...well it was just unfortunate but the greedy idiot needed to die. such a shame. his grandmother was still looking for him years later but the poor old bird was holding out for a miracle that just wasn't going to come. maybe she should have taught that boy from a young age that greed never got you anywhere unless you had the smarts to back it up. the best example of those words of wisdom headed into her loft, taking the stairs for once and unlocking the door to her place, the place that she hadn't considered to be sharing in quite some time. something felt off though, as she turned the key in the door. what really alerted her to the weird vibe she felt was the click, click, clicking sound of paws on her floor. what the hell? she didn't own a god damned dog.
-----as she opened the door, maggie's anger bloomed into something that was so prominent you could practically feel it in the air. "what the fuck are you idiots doing in my house?" maggie said as she stopped in the doorway, allie and bella practically running into her back as she did so. with her, now common, glare o'death, maggie finally entered the room, holding the door open for her friends before she closed it behind them. she didn't look at the boys. she really couldn't bring herself to do so because all she could think about right now was the pistol hidden on her person that she could easily whip out and end all of this bullshit with. as she scanned the room she noticed four males and a chick who looked so scared her eyes looked like they were about to bug out of her head. she sucked in a long breath as lorenzo's puppy kitty made her way over, as if sensing maggie needed to calm the fuck down. she dropped her bag to the floor, shoving it away with her foot and picked up the puppy, petting her as she feverishly attempted to lick at her face. she put the dog down and turned back to the mass of people in her house. "so there some good reason why you're using my house as a casino or should i just shoot you all now?"
she said in a dead serious voice as she locked eyes with everyone. -------------------------------------------------------- status • finished words • 1,483 tagged • lainey, asia, gurms, becs ! clothes • carly & maggie ! notes • long, but i’m including two characters so deal xD. - - - - - - ---THE SURGERY ROOM, THE HOSPITAL,
that was emmett's area of expertise, his comfort zone. it was very rare that he left the hospital perimeter, he really had no reason to. there was nobody for him to go home to because his last living family member lived in that hospital the majority of the time. his house was a mess anyways since he never had time to pick it up, or so he told himself every time he walked through the doors. but most of the time he just stayed at the hospital, working with patients, sitting in his little sister's room, sleeping in random unoccupied beds until one of the nurses shooed him away. it was his whole life, basically, it was the very oxygen to the lungs of who he was. going out and having what regular people called fun? he had no interested. emmett had never been much of the social type, he didn't like social gatherings, social places, or social people in general. preferring silence and solitude, he was perfectly content remaining the hermit he was widely known to be. so why on earth, may you ask, was emmett hanging out like your average joe, playing poker with some buddies? because everybody needed a break at some point, and when luca called him he decided to go. there may have been some pushy influence from miah, but still, he'd decided to go. it was weird though, the absolute normalcy of the situation. the people were anything but normal, criminals in fact, the whole lot of them except for the random girl who he was still struggling to remember the name of. emmett didn't like to think of himself as a criminal, after all, he was just a smuggler, and not even directly. he allowed the giovanni's to use his winery business to transport their less legal merchandise. his father had done the same before him, and he wasn't a bad guy, so it really had little weight on emmett's conscience. after lorenzo folded, emmett smirked. there wasn't anything like alcohol to get him to loosen up a bit, though he'd been very, ver careful with his intake because the last time he drank he woke up with his best friend in his bed and a killer hangover. damn it, zara, and her crazy ideas. "guess it's just you and me now," he muttered, looking up at luca with a competative gaze. emmett wasn't the best at poker, but definitely not as bad as collins. he won the first hand, but after that continually came in second. he couldn't help wanting to win, incessantly reminding himself it was just a game, nothin important. "whoa, don't put blood on my hands," he interrupted, "i don't shoot people. i just.... cut them open," he looked around, feeling rather awkward, "you know, because... i'm a doctor, a surgeon, it's... my job." he felt bad for the girl that collins had dragged along, and was definitely trying not to terrify her. and then the door knob twisted and three women walked in. luca's wife, who he'd been so instructive about, allegra mancini, and another girl he didn't recognize. emmett stayed silent, just staring at them and glancing towards luca every couple seconds. - - - - - ---HAVING FRIENDS FOR ONCE was kind of weird, but definitely a good weird, not a bad weird. bella hadn't been much of the socialite since her fall from grace a few years back, and now here she was, hanging out with a couple of girls, doing normal things, though the conversations were particularly different from something a trio of bimbos would have at a typical sleepover. she laughed at maggie's words, "how typical. where's the creativity?" bella had never killed somebody without a purpose thus far, but hell, her career in the big bad business was pretty fresh, there would be time to embrace a more violent side of herself in the future, especially now that she was so closely allied with two of the most fiesty women she'd ever had the pleasure of knowing. how lucky of her to be given the opportunity to meet them, though it'd started years ago when she'd done business with allegra, and allie had introduced her to maggie, and somehow the three just... clicked. the youngest of the girls followed as maggie parked the car and they began to head up to the loft. it was supposed to be a quiet night, talking, fun, relaxation. god knew they all needed it, but it was rather unfortunate that they hadn't expected their oh so unwelcome company. she'd stopped just in time to not run straight into maggie's back when they'd entered the room. casually shuffling to the side so maggie could shut the door, bella first noticed the random girl sitting on the couch with a look that screamed a cry for mommy. then her eyes flicked up to the table where some men were playing poker. she recognized luca immediately from the occasional picture she'd seen, "ah, so you're the infamous bastard," bella had been informed on the situation well enough to know she didn't like this luca character, but then again, maybe her information sources were particularly biased. oh well. she looked him up and down quickly, then shrugged, "i don't like you." it was only then that she paid attention the the other men at the table. lorenzo, who she was familiar with, the doctor who worked at the hospital - she'd noticed him briefly when visiting allie, and lastly... oh shit. bella's eyes nearly popped out of her head before she composed herself. quickly she looked towards her two friends, who she had already informed of her recent run in with james collins, the ass who happened to give her the black eye (that was still fading) and various other injuries, and then back at the group, her features hardening. ----LUCA CASUALLY LOOKED AT THE CARDS IN HIS HAND but as the minutes ticked by the less and less he cared about winning. he looked at jamie when he asked if they were suppose to act completely innocent when maggie came in. "yeah, that's the plan." he took the last swig of a beer and shook his head when he mentioned the hate sex. yeah, that was the whole reason luca had to bring the back up. one more one-on-one talk would end like the past two. not that he was particularly complaining about that, but something had to give at some point. to him, if that's all their relationship was going to come to, then he was sure he might lose her. "well, you know i don't kiss and tell," he said swiftly to him and held in a smirk. jamie folded out and not long after that, cousin lore was out too. shit, guess he shouldn't have been so damn distracted. "uh..." he said as lorenzo got up and got something to eat. when lore acknowledged the girl on the sofa, luca had pretty much forgotten about her all together. jamie had brought some girl. but to be honest, the girl was the last thing on luca's mind.
when emmett mentioned that he didn't shoot people but cut them up luca looked up and said, "yeah, you might be the most twisted out of all of us." he then revealed his hand to show a very losing hand and emmett got all of the cash from that round. but the losing kept coming as luca heard the door unlock and maggie come in. followed by one he recognized as allie and another woman he had no clue. well... he knew the plan could have it's flaws. of course maggie immediately started with what was going on. luca cleared his throat as he started to stand up. he pointed his index finger in an attempt to make a point. "our house," he corrected and started walking towards her. "you weren't answering my calls..." luca offered, trailing off to let her assume this was the measure he was taking because of it. then he heard the friend of maggie's he didn't recognize say that this must be the bastard. um, what? "is that what you call me behind my back?" he asked maggie, only looking at her. but then he remembered, no fighting. no need to make a scene. "look, i just want to talk to you," he said and took her hand. then the same girl told him that she didn't like him. "excuse me, do i know you?" he asked her, looking at her squarely before turning his attention back to maggie.
luca started pulling her away from the crowd. hopefully, his friends could entertain maggie's friends. he looked back at the boys sitting at the table staring at the girls like they were all in seventh grade again. whatever, he couldn't deal with that right now. he pulled maggie over back by their - the bed, so they were farther away from what everyone else. "i've been trying to see you for the past few days," luca started. he hadn't let go of her hand yet and he got a really serious in his face. "after the other day, i really... thought about everything. maggie. the actions i displayed, or lack thereof, over the past four years, i am so sorry." luca spoke low enough that maggie could hear. "you deserved so much more than i gave you. i didn't even consider your feelings in this. if i could re-do this all, i'd do it differently. i know i hurt you so much and i am really sorry. maggie," he said and held the side of her face with his free hand. "i'll do whatever it takes for you to trust me again. i love you." there, he said what he wanted to say, and it really did come from the bottom of his heart. he was married and he wanted to stay married. to maggie. he kissed her knuckles and pretended like they weren't in the midst of six other people. "i want to be like we were before i left. when you trusted me and when we were so happy to be around each other. but i know i got work at it, and i promise maggie, i will. i will work so hard to win you back."

-----------------------------------------------------------JANUARY 2012. EVENING. GIOVANNI LOFT.
----------------------------------------------------------- ,OKAY, SO MAYBE he wasn't being fair. he knew he wasn't being fair. it was stupid enough that he had agreed to this poker game. yes, these three were his friends. and yes he would rather not take their lives. but if anyone who was not him were to barge in here, it would be a very colorful blood bath. russians don't socialize with anyone. especially not giovanni's or their whoevers. that was ridiculous enough. but to bring carly here? well, he knew it wasn't fair to her. she was pissed off enough that she had a moody guy with a funny accent following her everywhere. and she hated this whole criminal-hit thing too. it terrified her. it should. anyone who is immediately comfortable with this life needs some serious help. he'd recommend a psychiatrist out of toledo, ohio. they don't know anything there. but still...why did he even bring it up? she didn't have a choice. and he knew it would set all sorts of things on fire. bring up the fact he was completely ignoring her, and he may as well shoot himself. she was going to the minute they were alone.
"i never said poker was my natural talent. i reserve that for rubbing my bad luck on you, gio." his tone remained sardonic, amused. leveling his blue-eyed stare at lorenzo, he only paused to roll his eyes as the hulk-in-training pushed away in search of food. "again? you're a dumpster." still, he followed in suit, kicking away from the table to light another cigarette and finally turn to the coach. they weren't alone, not yet. so he was still alive. and he could feel the bullets being loaded, sliding right into his own gun. her eyes were lethal enough. rubbing the back of his neck, jamie took a few cautious steps toward the couch. the dog wasn't biting him to death yet, so he was okay. arching an eyebrow as he longingly looked at the half-empty beer bottle he'd left on the table, he breathed a sigh again. fuck. he could feel the words off her breath, eager to repel everything he'd said all evening. "hate sex? uh, no. be smart. he was always irritating. this was so high school. why the fuck did you bring me here?" he knew she was thinking that. but as he was clearly incapable of being intelligent, in one swift movement, he was on the other end of the couch, elbows on his knees, eyes on her. "i require witnesses, don't i?" flicking ash off the end of his cancer stick, watching the embers float onto the floor, he didn't look at her again. the two seconds he did was enough. maybe if he sat here, not saying anything, her requirement for bodily harm would lessen. in the same part of his mind that knew he was being unfair, he also knew that was just fucking pathetic.
"didn't know you were pussy-whipped, luca. and i didn't know the good doctor was terrified. and i also didn't know the resident garborator here doesn't have an off button." his tone was dark this time, almost arrogant. almost. yes, he knew that was probably crossing the line. yes, he knew just how condenscending he sounded. but no, he did not mean it. not really. remember when carly said he was capable of being a first-rate jackass? (or ksenia. or both. they probably both thought that.) he liked to be one when he was growing increasingly uncomfortable. knocking back beers, playing poker. that was a good time. seeing three very angry, very dangerous females barge into a loft more than two storeys off the ground? well, he'd rather not. "and i also don't have a problem adding to your pretty stitches, bells." he only raised his eyebrows as he spoke, rattling his tongue off from his comfortable position on the couch. it was only when everyone began to argue and scream and cry and do whatever else they did, did he deflate. slightly. sighed, took a long drag of his cigarette, and changed his position, turning to face carly completely, crossing his legs and hunching his back in the process.
he watched her for a minute. looked a few inches above her head. rubbed the back of his neck. huffed another sigh. "i wanted you to know how i felt. and for that, i'm sorry. i don't want to deal with, well that, carly." his voice was soft, barely above a whisper. she knew what that sounded like. he only met her eyes as he finished speaking, half-motioning across the room to where luca and maggie were beginning to erupt. see what i mean? he found the entire thing highly entertaining until people walked in. then he fell out of the loop entirely and cowered on the couch, torn between talking and watching. SOME SAY YOU'RE TROUBLE BOY, JUST BECAUSE YOU LIKE TO DESTROY ALL THE THINGS THAT BRING AN IDIOT JOY SO WHAT'S WRONG WITH A LITTLE DESTRUCTION. . . . . . . IT WAS OFTEN a surprise to his family, and just people in general, that Lorenzo was a jovial human being. After all the things he had witnessed and experienced, he should be bitter and jaded. But Lorenzo Salvatore Giovanni was different, once he leaves a job, that’s it; all the feelings, anger, despair and sick joy was left there. He had no place for such toxicity in his personal life, and it was refreshing being the upbeat one. And it was sort of bothering him how Carly was still so scared that she did not utter a word. “Wow, we really scare you don’t we? Sorry...”
He apologized, ducking away from the girl as he head into the kitchen. As he prepared his sandwich, he snorted as Emmett began to differentiate himself from the group. He didn’t get that, even if Emmett didn’t hold a gun to the temple of someone head, he still allowed the shipments of weapons. Now Lorenzo wasn’t place the entirety of blame on the socially inept medical professional, but he wasn’t completely innocent, Salaris should own up to at least that much, “Oh sorry, Doc... I guess smuggling weapons isn’t so bad, people kill people not guns, right?” He yelled from the kitchen as he came back into the main chamber of the loft. Repositioning himself on his chair at the poker table, he cracked open another beer before he dug into his food. After a few bites, Lorenzo shook his head as Luca confirmed the plans that Lore had no faith in whatsoever, “Man Luca, I dunno how that isn’t going to blow up in your face...” Lorenzo looked at his cousin, trying to weigh the pros against the cons of this ambush. Perhaps Maggie will consider the facts that she didn’t pick up the phone calls or texts... But he knew her well enough that it was a pipe dream to think that his cousin in law was the type to think with a clear and calm mind when it came to Luca. Lorenzo just wanted them to go back to the way things were, was that too much to ask? “Excuses, Collins, Excuses. I was winning most of the hands against our pure and innocent neurosurgeon... Now that’s gone to hell.” He paused a little, enjoying his food, “Do I make comments about how your voice box will eventually be replaced by a machine because of all those damn cigarettes? Leave the food alone, ass munch.” He pointed towards Collins, a little smirk playing at his lips and a twinkle in his bright green eyes. This was how he reacted, light and jovial; always. When the girls came in, everything became subtly tense. It was weird, at first things were nice, but now he knew he had to tread lightly. Lorenzo cleared his throat, running a hand through his hair. He looked up at the three women in the doorway, “Hey sis, how was your day?” Lorenzo asked, trying to ease the rising tension of the room. He was thankful that Kitty made his way over to Maggie, attempted to calm her down. Kitty was so awesome like that. He smiled at the other girls, knowing them both but he was a little more worried about Maggie, her reaction and the plans for Luca’s potential funeral. But at this time he felt Allegra’s eyes on him and his food... Back off, skank. - - - - - - I'M EVIL AND A HEATHEN LIKE YOU THERE'S NOT A LOT I WOULDN'T DO I LIKE HOW YOU PRETEND THAT THE END WILL BE THE END SO FILL YOUR THIRST AND DRINK YOUR CURSE MEANWHILE, AWAY FROM the loft and the high testosterone level, there were three deadly bombshells driving in a car. The three, Magdelena, Allegra and Isabella were having quite the pleasant conversation of their ‘extra curricular’ activities, “Seriously, the human race is ridiculous, especially the males. He sounds like my guy when I was sixteen, at first he was all, “pfft, a little girl can’t take me.” Three fingers and a permanent reminder burned to the back of his neck later I get a check the next day... Then another finger, I get cash.” Allie cocked her head, brushing a blond curl from her eyes. She should smile, or say a witty quip, something to make it a little light and airy when she talked about dismembering a person for not paying up, “And he ruined my limited edition Manolo Blahnik Mary Janes. Stupid bastard didn’t know how hard it is to get blood off of suede.” She scoffed, as if it was the most inconvenient thing that occurred. Not the fact that she took four fingers off of a man, later killed him. She wondered what the other girls did with the fingers, if they even resorted to such outdated measures, but she kept a finger. It was probably gross, and vastly unappealing and some shrink who could not get a real medical degree would concur psychopathy... But Allegra liked souvenirs, as morbid and serial killer-y as it was. She liked bone, the smooth and solid consistency was comforting. Muscle and skin decomposes, so does bone, but it was how everything was connected to it. Allegra wasn’t one to revel in the glory of a death, but oddly, she felt secure when she killed. It was something instinctive, animalistic that stirred inside of her when she did such heinous acts. But the bones remained, little by little her skeleton grew. “Haha, being nice is overrated, I like it when you’re gruesome anyhow.” Allegra smiled, looking out the window before she got out of the car. When they made it up to the loft, she shuffled into the doorway of the loft, her hand on the back of the door after Maggie closed it. The boys were here, a russian, her coworker and the two Giovannis. It was a wave that hit her, this was not going to be a regular night, some things will be thrown into the open and that made the woman nervous. But the boys were playing poker? really? And this was the way Luca was going to attempt to get her best friend’s attention. Bad, bad move. Allegra tapped Bella’s shoulder, whispering into her ear, “See? Human males, idiotic, further proving my point.” She shook her head. This was actually happening, and she could basically predict the outcome to this. It was going to end badly, she could just tell in a room full of volatile criminals, pretty much all packing heat. No one would be stupid enough to walk in naked. Well, she assumed the frail brown eyed girl sitting on the couch wasn’t carrying any sort of weapon, but she would get to that stranger later. Right now her eyes wandered over to the Russian in the room. This was odd, on any other given time, if push came to shove, she knew what side Collins would be on, but she did not quite care. Not like she cared very much on a regular day for things like loyalty. She knew it was something she should defend, but deep down to Allegra’s core, there was no loyalty, it was the bloodshed that kept her in the game. It was her sick obsession of bone and the morbid emotion of feeling alive as she killed that kept her interested in her highly illegal activities. But right now, Allegra laughed a little, ribbing her gunrunner, “Aw Bells, you got taken down my Billy over there? I’m disappointed.” The other doctor looked at her coworker, a little rage swelling in her center, “What the hell, Sally?! Wrong team to play on.” Allegra shook her head slightly violently, this was totally uncalled for. Granted that she and Sally were not on the best of terms (regardless of the fact that when under pressure they were the best team in the history of the hospital when it came to medicine.) but this was unacceptable, nevertheless. “Oh this is going to be fun.” Allegra muttered mostly to herself as Luca attempted to pull Maggie aside for a little ‘talk.’ This was so going to be the high light of the night, a fatal explosion in the making. However, Allie crossed her arms, leaning against the wall, “Why is there a civilian here? You do realize, with the exception of Fattie over there,” She gestured towards Lorenzo, who was still enjoying his sandwich, but put it down long enough to complain a little before she continued, “that we all have terrible tempers and we shoot before we ask questions, right?” She asked Jamie, raising her brows a little, but also mildly listening in to the conversation that was taking place behind her. Poor Luca, he was going to be eaten alive, Allegra had no hope for the guy. VALKYRIE, CALIFORNIA, GIOVANNI LOFT, EVENING, JANUARY 2012 -----it was like he enjoyed pissing her off. god it was like he got a rush from the whole thing! somehow or another after knowing one another for such a short time, jamie had learned how to get under her skin and he enjoyed being there. it was as if nothing could satisfy him, and it many different ways. he didn’t seem to enjoy himself until she was pissed off or they had something to butt heads over and in maybe any other situation carly would have let it go just for the sake of not giving jamie the satisfaction of seeing her squirm, but this was another matter entirely. carly was surrounded by a bunch of criminals she knew nothing about other than stories of the families in general and what they were capable of. did she really want to end up floating face down in some river or something? did she want to end up with a bullet in her head? of course not! hence all the more reason why carly was willing to give jamie a hard time right back. this was in no way a safe situation and carly could tell that from the moment the other women walked into the room and the air around them suddenly got worlds colder. this, oh baby this was a nightmare. she sat silent on the couch knowing that people were taking measure of her involvement in this whole situation. one of the giovanni boys wondered why she was so terrified…well maybe growing up in this life, or whatever life that was even, had desensitized him to the fact that the name giovanni tended to strike fear into the residents of valkyrie. everyone knew the stories, everyone knew what they were about, and yet it wasn’t usually people from carly’s crowd that got caught up in a room with two, err, three of them. yes she was scared. she wasn’t used to this life or anything it entailed and sure in their own element some of these people were probably nice but from an outsider’s perspective she was toast.
she glared at jamie as he egged on the conversations before coming over to her and finally acknowledging her existence. for some reason his close proximity allowed her fears to really surface, not because he scared her, but because she wanted to believe that she could trust him and she was terrified. carly rested her hands in her lap, entwining her fingers to hide the fact that she was shaking like a leaf. she listened to his apology, barely. too many conversations were happening in the room, too many voices she felt the need to pick up on in case things got tense and she needed to duck behind, well, something. she looked up at jamie with a shake of her head, trying to hide the fear in her voice but failing as it came out in only a mere whisper. ”so you brought me here just to even the odds? god, how could you do that to me.” her voice faltered a moment forcing carly to stop and clear her throat. ”you promised me you’d protect me.” she gathered the nerve to say before her voice chilled slightly, a miracle considering she was still shaking, ”well i don’t feel safe mister collins.” she called him by his last name for the first time since that night she’d met him at bad seeds, something she never would have done if her trust in him was solid. she looked up as the gorgeous blond one started talking, chuckling slightly and shaking her head. well if she was going to die, might as well go out with an, err, bang right? carly stood from the couch, giving jamie a solid death glare before she pushed away from him. ”suppose i’m just collateral damage or a material witness then.” she said with a shrug, her back to her so-called protector.
--------------------------------------------------------
-----well wasn’t this fucking cozy. people all over her house. HER HOUSE! maggie was beyond livid as she walked into her loft to find a series of men making themselves comfortable amongst her belongings and amongst her private things. god you know people usually got some kind of warning when people were coming over and could usually tidy up the place a bit, take out the trash, or, god forbid, maybe stow the lacy lingerie that had been hung in the bathroom to dry? not to mention the fact that half of these people were strangers to her, if not to her friends. looked like allie and bella knew an few of these boys and of course she knew her worthless waste of space of a husband and his likable cousin, but christ almighty she did not want people here. honestly she didn’t want to deal with luca. there was a reason why his phone calls and texts had been ignored and that was because she didn’t want another half-baked apology that would just wind up translating loosely into i’m sorry you’re having a tantrum but i’m going to nod my head and pretend i understand your pain because i want you naked. k thx. honestly she wasn’t sure her sanity could take another hit from that. she couldn’t stand to see any more of his pseudo-genuine bullshit. at this point, yes she knew he loved her, but she didn’t believed he cared and she would rather ignore him and just focus on making her life make sense rather than having to endure any more of that. hell she even backed up slightly as luca had approached simply because she didn’t want to go round number four with him, or whatever fucking round it was. she showed no reaction as luca asked her about name calling. oh please. she was a woman, she liked to vent, end of story, almost.. ”if the bastard shoe fits.” she said simply, slightly amused at the defensive position he’d taken as her friends spoke up for her. as she let luca take her aside maggie gave bella a little glance over her shoulder with a bit of a hidden smirk. that was more like it.
-----as luca brought her into the portion of the open loft that used to be their bedroom, maggie was completely ready for another half-assed apology. she was completely ready for him to let her down all over again and to feel some overwhelming desire to shove him and his asshat buddies down the elevator shaft, but she’d been dumbfounded when luca finally spoke up and his words seemed more genuine than she’d heard in a long time. she stayed absolutely silent, wondering if that would make him feel the need to speak up more, and waited until he had said his piece before she even thought about reacting. so he was genuinely sorry? he actually cared about her feelings and he actually saw her side of the story? somehow, even now, maggie didn’t completely believe it, but everyone well knew that she was so desperate to hear those words that any variation thereof probably would have softened her up at least a little bit. her eyebrows furrowed slightly as his rough hand brushed over her cheek. not in confusion, but in an overwhelming rush of emotions she was trying desperately to keep at bay. damn it this was not the time for company and certainly not the time to do this but maggie could understand why he felt the need to need backup. he was probably right about that. with a big sigh maggie held his chin between her index finger and thumb, her thumb gently grazing over his chin and the edge of his bottom lip as her gaze locked on his, ”you better.” she said in regards to his promise to do whatever it took. ”you damn well better.” she was hesitant to trust him but god help her she did anyways. she stepped in closer to him, her body sidling in next to his as she gently kissed his lips before burying her face in the crook of his neck, smiling as she felt his arms instinctively wrap around her. she could hear a bit of silence in the room as they came together, probably shock, and finally stepped away from him, though her hand never left his as they rejoined the group. she cocked a finger at Lorenzo, beckoning him over and gave him a kiss on the forehead with a bit of a smile as the conversations picked back up, ”you know the rule babe. you replace anything you devour in my house.” she said with a chuckle, remnants of the old maggie falling back into place.

- - - - - - ---ALL THIS SOCIALIZING WAS
just plain out of the norm. emmett had only had two friends throughout the course of his life, his two best friends he'd known since the days when he spoke he sounded like a whiney girl. they were the only people he ever went out and did anything with, and he was used to them, it wasn't weird. but this boy's night? he'd never done anything like this before, and it really didn't bother him, shockingly. when luca had approached him out of the blue, revealing how his father had always had a business deal with the giovanni's, emmett had been hesitant to accept the proposal, but he did. despite growing up in the car of his mother, emmett had always respected his father, and he wasn't a bad guy, not in the least, so how could he do wrong following in his footsteps? but business turned into friendship and emmett actually decided he liked these casual nights, though it wasn't like there was going to be many of them. "whoa, down you little italian stallion," emmett muttered, staring at his cards as he listened to lorenzo, "i'm not opposed, just saying i'm a non-violent type of guy, ya know," he scowled, not really sure what he'd been trying to say, "i'm just trying not to freak out collins's friend, okay?" he sighed, struggling with his words wasn't uncommon for him, and poor guy, it got even worse when the three women barged in. had it just been luca's wife and her beampole brunette friend, he'd be fine, but the blonde? allegra? that was a little shocking. he and dr. mancini were a medical dream team, but they had always butted heads ever since his first day in the hospital. he could remember the insults and bickerings like they'd happened just yesterday. and it was like allegra was the darth vader of his life, trying to convert everybody to the dark side; i.e. miah. he still didn't understand how they were... acquainted. "shut your trap, collins," he rolled his eyes, not really paying attention. who was the russian to talk anyways? he was the one who brought a girl to poker night. wasn't that breaking guy code or something? allegra then acknowledged him, and he couldn't help but snort, "sally, billy," he shrugged, "that's a lot less annoying now that i know its no primarily for my benefit." yeah, there was the fact that she targetted him with a woman's name and james with a more... masculine one, but he really didn't mind. it was a daily occurence. sally was starting to grow on him, or at least he'd respond to it. he was relieved to see maggie and luca walk out together, that should keep things civil for a bit, "so, mancini," he put slight emphasis on the 'man' part, "i'm assuming you're not just a brilliant barbie doll then?" she had to be connected in this dark world somehow to be acquainted with all these people. - - - - - ---THE WHOLE INTENTION OF tonight was relaxation, a girl's night. they were supposed to go to maggie's place, maybe d something mundane like watch a movie, swap more stories, cook up food, maybe go out somewhere again, but the four idiots playng silly card games? that wasn't what she had expected, wasn't what she'd really wanted at all, actually. if it'd just been lorenzo, well that would be all fine and good. he was a dandy fella that you couldn't help but be particularly fond of. the others weren't exactly company to rejoice over, she either didn't know them or didn't like them. neither were facts she was ever particularly fond of. when maggie responded to luca's bastard question, bella shrugged and smiled innocently, a catty grin on her lips as maggie smirked over her shoulder when luca pulled her away. of course jamie had to say something, dumbass. "oh yeah?" she scoffed, her eyebrows raising ever so slightly, "how's your nose?" the girl was tempted to make a snide comment about his little emotional breakdown he'd had toward the end of their wonderful time together, but that would be an extreme blow below the belt. bella might have an immense disliking for he russian killer, but she wasn't here to screw with his head, she didn't want to bring it up. a glare was thrown back at allie, "yeah, i got away, didn't i? it's not like he went unscathed." she mocked laughter, looking at the girl who stood up, tentatively responding to allegra's comment. at least she was speaking, that was always a good sign, "i believe you should ditched the dumbies an join the dark side," bella grinned, she tended to get along with most people outside the business, may as well be friendly with jamie's little gal pal, plus it'd probably piss him off. she stuck out her hand, "bella," she introduced herself, keeping things light. and then maggie and luca walked out holding hands and bella rolled her eyes, "damn it. well, i still don't like him, mags," she pouted. she wanted to be the harrass the bad husband friend for a little. then again, them making up was probably safer for everybody. "lorenzo," she called across the room, "will you be a doll and make me something to eat?" she shot him her most winning smile. isabella had had experiences like this, nights with criminals, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or the right place, depending on how you looked at it. honestly, she wasn't expecting this all too end well. things seemed sweet and innocent and like a regular night with regular people for the moment, but it wouldn't be long before everybody was trying to kill each other and the guns were being pulled. she was somewhat drawn to all the backstories and undercurrent of drama though. somehow, the impending doom was like the elephant in the room, something they could all predict and knew was coming, but simply wouldn't think about, wouldn't even acknowledge. "so what's the plan for tonight, ladies and lorenzo?" well, the rest of the night would be interesting, to say the least. ----LUCA REALLY HAD PUT HIS NECK ON THE LINE. he had been becoming quite desperate on trying to get maggie back. luca though was one that wanted to figure it all out on his own. if he had to choose, he wish allie never talked to him. all he needed was maggie's friends to get credit for the reconciliation between him and maggie. he knew how girls worked. they were much more... candid with each other. luca's friends didn't know the real reasons behind why maggie and he were fighting so much. the guys didn't need to know they knew he was gone for four years. they didn't need to know much else than that. but the girls... if maggie was too kind as to have a nickname for him to her friends, then she probably had no problem just ripping him apart to them. it was probably true that he wouldn't have been able to come to her so quickly if it wasn't for allie. luca just didn't like owing anything to people. especially when it came to maggie.
but when luca did speak to maggie, he was speaking the truth. he knew they were gonna have to talk about the past four years more. but, maggie at least saw he was making an effort. and that she knew he was so far in the wrong it would take a lot to make it out in the right. he wanted to tell her everything. everything that happened in boston. he wanted to tell her how it was the most boring period in his life. how it sucked that he was pretty much a newlywed and he had to spend his time three thousand miles away from her. he knew they couldn't talk about it now though because they did have company. he did need the people here tonight to even talk to her, but after everyone would leave, they could talk. they were getting this far without bickering, maybe they would be able to keep it up. maggie pulled on his chin and they locked eyes. ”you damn well better.” she told him. a moment later, she stepped closer to him and kissed him. her head fell on his shoulder and luca pulled his arms around her. he kissed her hair and wondered why he never did this when he first came to the loft the day after the earthquake. if it was this easy... jeeze.he rubbed her back, and he sort of wished they could stay like that for maybe an hour. sometimes the best thing about when they were fighting was when they made up. "i love you," he mumbled in her hair. their hands found each other again and walked back to the rest of the group. "don't look so surprised." luca knew half of them were hoping for a brawl. "we don't fight all the time."
he didn't want to smirk as they rejoined the group at the table. even though luca was feeling pretty damn good, he didn't want allie or bella to be looking at him, but he did give a little nod to his friends, just saying that everything was all good, as if they didn't already see it. luca pulled up another chair for maggie to sit next to him. jamie was sitting next to the girl he brought, who still looked terribly out of place. luca leaned back a bit and place his arm around maggie's back and her chair. "so... the party's just beginning?" he asked the group. "collins, bring dollface over here. give her the rest of your bottle or something. lighten her up a little." luca rubbed maggie's shoulder and looked at helga and olga across the room. "what were you girls up to tonight?" he asked, looking at them. time to start sitting and breaking the bread.

-----------------------------------------------------------JANUARY 2012. EVENING. GIOVANNI LOFT.
----------------------------------------------------------- ,SO, HE KNEW tonight would be a tornado of insanity. stick four seasoned criminals in one room, and you were asking for trouble. the minute three other criminals who wanted to be seasoned barged into the loft? well, you knocked down trouble's frontdoor and were breaking their glass bunny collection. or, if you were lorenzo, eating the kitchen. moving onto the appliances sometime soon. and yet, he found himself agreeing to it. boys night, right? it was disappointing that the three barbie dolls crashed, kicking up the dust and intertwining all of the innocent bystanders into the tornado. disappointing, but so much more entertaining. and jamie watched it all from his safe spot on the couch. he was the odd-man out here. everyone here were born-bred giovanni italians. or their supportive minions. at the end of the day? jamie collins would shoot any of them dead if his own were in danger. but we're not talking about that. we're talking about how he managed to fly under the radar, often missing out on all of this italian drama. it was chaos and making a big mess, but it was really fucking amusing.
the sardonic smirk found a permanent spot on his face. everytime someone acknowledged him, he was forced to present the same reply. ripping on each other was normal play for the boys. he'd been called out and 'shut up, collins' all night. the fact that the girls were getting involved was all the better. it'd be a long time since he'd been in such a...spirited environment. absentmindedly smoking his cigarette, he looked from lorenzo to emmett. lord. he socialized with these people. "and at the end of the day, you'll continue to long for my soothing robotic voice, my friend," he pointed at lore with his quickly burning cancer stick. "besides, i'm not hating on the food. i'm mocking it for having the patience to be constantly harassed by you. and i, for one, do not like to be harassed by you, doc. no need to pretend to be a class act. she's terrified already." he was still looking at lorenzo when she acknowledged emmett, only sliding his gaze to him with a devilish grin. it was a sacrifice he had to make - be more insensitive to his electric girl, and keep up with the boys. or ignore them and get cards thrown at him. he sighed. one look at carly, and his expression softened. the initial plan was to show her just how miserable he felt crawling around her world. now it just seemed stupid. she was fucking terrified, and he knew it. he just watched her. like he did much of the time, not saying a word. just turned to face her, examining her face.
he pushed up the sleeves of his shirt, taking the time to extinguish his cigarette on his jeans. he hated smoking around her. as the seconds ticked by, the remose was becoming more evident. he wanted her to see how miserable he'd been, not scare the daylights out of her. reaching forward to touch her jeans lightly, tracing a finger along her knee, he didn't take his eyes off her. he didn't meet her eyes, either. just searched her face. "seriously, don't call me billy. or consider bells to be an equal opponent. she's not." he didn't look at allegra, just nodded at her superior tone. he'd liked her when she walked in, not when she opened her mouth. like the rest of the barbie trio, go figure. the good-naturedness of his tone was quickly vanishing, growing cold as he heard carly chuckle at allie's words. he wanted to talk to her so badly. just not now, in front of them, when they were paying attention. it grew icy as he quickly shifted his gaze to bella. allegra and maggie he could deal with, they were only adjacently aquainted. bella rovens, he just didn't like her. or the traitorous invalid blood that flowed through her selfish veins. "i don't know, want to feel how it felt?" okay so, his nose still really fucking hurt. it wouldn't stop bleeding. "don't touch her," there were razor blades laced in his words. emotion. only the kind that one caroline sutton could bring to him.
his eyes watched as bella turned to lorenzo, saying something about food. were these people bottomless pits? she'd spoken already, long before he'd managed to say anything. he'd sparred with the crazy scooby gang first. no one needed to really overhear how much he wanted to talk to her. "you know me. i like to bring you down to my level. or mancini the barbie doll." he hadn't spoken to her when she, carly, had chuckled at allegra's words. just switched from one pretty girl to the other. not that it seemed to matter. he should have said something right when carly said it. lesson learned. she pulled the trust thing into it and got up and turned from him. perfect. he didn't say anything, just watched her. watched her and moodily leaned against the back of the couch, fishing around for yet another cigarette. exhaling the first cloud of smoke, he turned to look at luca, looking remarkably happy that his girlfriend wasn't shooting him dead. well, fuck him. he mentioned something about lightening carly up, something about alcohol. he just slouched more, looking moodier than ever. "you lighten her up, lucs. you're better at it than me, as we know." his tone grew dark, distracted. [/blockquote] ----------------------------------------------------------- STATUS, complete. SOME SAY YOU'RE TROUBLE BOY, JUST BECAUSE YOU LIKE TO DESTROY ALL THE THINGS THAT BRING AN IDIOT JOY SO WHAT'S WRONG WITH A LITTLE DESTRUCTION. . . . . . . THIS WAS SO very, very uncommon, he felt as though he need to make a priest and a rabbi-esque joke, (so a russian, italian and a civilian walk into a bar...) just to make sense of this situation. Lorenzo severely doubted if this occurrence as rare as it is would ever happen again. But tonight, all loyalties were placed at the door... well unless someone unexpected and lethal bust through the doors like a cheesy action flick. But he did not want to jinx it. He wanted to make more money, and he wanted to come in first, leaving Emmett in the dust. And so the twenty something waited, in his chair, with his sandwich for someone to win. But Luca got up, and Doc tried to be hospitable... oh boy, things weren’t turning up, he mused jokingly. “It’s true, you just get me, don’t you, Jamie?”
The animal mumbled, taking the last few bites of his precious sandwich. Damn, that was good. He walked towards Maggie, reassured by the fact that she seemed to be... a little better. “It’s okay to be happy, sis.” He whispered, looking her in the eye, patting her cheek. There was a deep meaning to his statement, with Luca and Maggie on the mends, he could slightly see the light coming back in her eyes. He loved Magdelena like a sister, she was as close to his heart as Dominique and he truly wanted both of them to be happy, he honestly did. It really made him happy when he saw his cousin and now sister in law together, hopefully things were to get better now. “My god... I need to take a picture of this to remind myself that you guys don’t always bicker...” Lorenzo chuckled, running a hand through her hair before he looked down to see Kitty by his feet. Brushing his hands against his jeans before he lifted his puppy up into his arms. “Italian Stallion? Doc, I’m flattered, but you’re just not my type.” His left hand fluttered over the general area of his heart. This was far too amusing for him. The mere fact that no one had pulled out a gun yet, nor had they crossed any thin ice topics was a miracle. Well, it was almost a miracle, they were all criminals with the exception of Carly, and she hadn’t spoken to anyone except for Jamie. “And I think Carly is already beyond terrified, so even you, nice ol’ well adjusted genius couldn’t possibly read up on how to make her comfortable.” He joked, grinning with a twinkle in his eye. It was so weird to see Doc trying to make an effort, something Lorenzo could tell wasn’t a strong suit, but to be cut down by Jamie, that was a little harsh. He scratched Kitty's ear, just generally enjoying the company when he laughed at Bella's request, “Ah, Bella, you charmer, you’re quite capable of making something yourself. Is that bounty still on your head or what, kiddo?” Yeah, he did his research, he didn’t want to walk into something that may blow up in his face afterward. - - - - - - I'M EVIL AND A HEATHEN LIKE YOU THERE'S NOT A LOT I WOULDN'T DO I LIKE HOW YOU PRETEND THAT THE END WILL BE THE END SO FILL YOUR THIRST AND DRINK YOUR CURSE MEANWHILE, ACROSS THE loft, in a black silk dress and equally black Louboutin heels stood Dr.Mancini, calculated how far the hospital was from here, how many stitches Luca would need and also how many repairmen would be called up to fix up their residence. However, all that was put to rest when the usually grumpy couple came back with a smile on their faces. Huh. The outcome was not that of which was predicted, it was quite the opposite. There was no fighting, no yelling, no reason to hold each of them back before one of them pulled out a weapon. She didn’t speak when Luca spoke of how they didn’t fight all the time, nor when Bella readmitted her disgust with the man. She just nodded once at the couple, there was nothing for her to say, anyway. She lingered in the doorway, smirking a little at Sally’s words, “Yes, however Collins’ pseudonym is intended in a masculine manner, unlike yours.” Walking over to a free armchair, she slunk into the soft leather, getting comfortable, “You should do your research, Sally, assumptions are fatal these days.” She propped her elbow onto the arm of the chair, her thumb and forefinger pressing at her temple as she smiled hollowly. “Whatever may happen next, I’m stitching my initials in next time, regardless if the wound is small.” The blonde said in a calm, but deadly serious tone. She wasn’t kidding, the next time she would stitch up her gunrunner, the letters A.V.A.M will most definitely be on that girl. With another underlying comment from Jamie, Allegra turned her gaze towards him and held it while she spoke, “Interesting, you seem vastly protective, more than just a physical sense, of the civilian, especially if it is just a, how should I put it, bodyguard stint.” She muttered, enough for James to hear, and perhaps the entire room, but it was her observational opinion. The way he acted it, even the subtly of it, the practiced method of the way he was ignoring her... it all pointed towards attraction. It was solidified by his little sideways comment to Luca. What a girl he was, this russian. But no matter, as the room began to talk about something she could not pay attention to, she readjusted herself and reached into her bag, pulling out a file. It was a case she was working on, but all her own notes were with her and a few photocopies of some tests to go over. Crossing her legs, she dove into her notes, vaguely keeping an ear in the swirling conversations. It was far more important for her to get to the bottom of this case than to make hasty small talk with people she couldn’t care less for. Actually, if the girl wanted to be completely honest she didn’t technically feel anything about her best friend Maggie even. It was just easier to have Maggie around and to list her in the above mentioned relationship than to be a pariah. If anything were to happen to the drug lordess, of course Allegra was to be indebted, and she would go around the world to end the imbecile... But that was the closest she got to a positive feeling; indebtedness. When Luca asked what happened earlier, Allegra just nodded until the room sort of went quiet. It was natural in a flow of conversation for it to slow, and thus, she took the silence as a time to alert the room of her latest event to take place in court, “I think I’m getting sued for man handling a pediatric surgeon for not performing on my patient because she wanted to keep her stats high.“ Allegra spoke nonchalantly her eyes still glued to the file as she flipped through it, but the honest truth was that she had been sued so many times and won, that this didn’t bother her. Aiden the patient was a good kid, he deserves a fighting chance without having to deal with a whore who’s adamant on keeping her rating. At six years of age, Allegra had appreciated him more than she had the majority of her colleagues both in the professional and illegal worlds. That was saying something as she was in a room surrounded by some of the dangerous people she knew. VALKYRIE, CALIFORNIA, GIOVANNI LOFT, EVENING, JANUARY 2012 -----this wasn't the life that was meant for her. plain and simple. this was not what she was meant to do nor was it something she was meant to be a part of. what did that all mean? carly was the one here who was the most out of place. funny how something like that was accomplished when you were around a series of criminals with varied alliances. it seemed damn near cruel that the one person who wasn't involved in the crime world would be more out of place amongst those who, in other circumstances, would have been shooting at one another. maybe that was her only problem, carly would not, and could not, ever see herself picking up a gun for any reason. not even for self defense. it was a moral issue and it was one that she didn't have to battle every day because she knew there was good inside of her. here? with these people? she could just imagine the kind of body counts they racked up and the idea of all of that yes, still fucking scared her. this was in no way normal. hell not even the poker game itself was normal. college guys sat around playing poker or maybe even fathers who just needed an escape from nagging wives and crying children but criminals? something told carly that they had a lot better things they could be doing so why be here? better yet, why drag her along?
there weren't words strong enough to describe just how pissed off carly was at jamie for throwing her into this situation. had she not only a few days ago had a knife to her throat when some crazed fan had grabbed her? had jamie not had to come to her rescue and had he not seen how scared she had been? yes she'd dragged him to a movie premiere. yes he hadn't been happy about it in the least bit, but what the hell else could she have done about it? the hit on her head was in no way her fault. she'd been an innocent townie taking her kid to the park before ksenia had showed up and made her the target of a dangerous mob. she had been untouched and quite frankly aside from her celebrity status she'd been a mere blip on people's radar. aside from the fact that the dance competition had made her famous, carly was mostly popular amongst dance enthusiasts. she wasn't usually the target of some mob hit and she certainly wasn't usually dragged off at knife point. you had to forgive the girl for freaking out in the only way she knew how. it had been a long ass week.
it was amusing though that they liked to talk to her, or about her, without actually talking to her. all kinds of references about relaxing her or whatnot hadn't actually been geared toward the nervous individual in question. instead they'd just talked at jamie. her...what was he? some kind of handler? that wasn't weird at all. still she couldn't help but glare at him and turn her back to him as she caught on to people's conversation, one of the bickering women coming forward and extending her hand. carly had mimicked the action until she heard the voice edge to jamie's voice as he spoke up and, flinching, she involuntarily retracted her hand like a child that had been told not to touch a candle's flame. a slight rosy tint came to her cheeks. she was embarrassed. that didn't usually happen that she would react to jamie's voice like that, and she felt like she was being incredibly rude. "carly." she said with a slight smile, hoping the young criminal understood where she was coming from "it's nice to meet you bella." talk of lightening her up had her rolling her eyes, an action she quickly caught and put a stop to. "well toss me something then." she said with a shake of her head. moments later and unopened beer bottle flew toward her and she caught it effortlessly, twisting off the cap with her hand and taking a sip. if she was going to get through this night, at least one beer was in order and in the meantime she needed to figure out just why the blonde’s bodyguard comment stung so badly.
--------------------------------------------------------
-----was there a chance that she could really be happy? maggie wasn't so sure. it seemed like time and time again the moment she let her guard down and relaxed into a situation, taking it as being the new norm, something happened that got her all riled up to the point where she wanted to kill something. it wasn't fair. just once she would like to have something good in her life. her romance with luca was certainly nothing out of a fairy tale, that was a given. they were hard, complicated people and that was something that would likely never change. at least her work situation was better than ever before, that was a start, but at this point everyone knew that maggie used work to get out of her head and used it as a distraction for the hell that was currently her marriage. work wasn't meant to be that way. it wasn't intended to be something that you had to lose yourself in for the sake of your sanity and yet here she had been absorbing her work as her life. of course when you were a mobstress and drug lordess that wasn't hard to come by, work was and would always be your life, but did that mean it needed to be an escape? no. work was an obligation as well as a passion and a power struggle. it was and would be everything that you made it to be and maggie loved that about her life. she loved that she could at this point do anything she wanted with the business because she had that kind of influence and because she was finally working with people who understood her that way. had that been something common of juan corinthos sr? hell no.
-----still it almost seemed like every time she built herself up and got comfortable in her life, something came around to knock her back down. for now it was her marriage. work was great, the friends were great, but when you had the hardest time trusting your husband? the one person who was supposed to mean the most to you? well that always spelled trouble. everyone knew maggie was a sucker when it came to luca and that she wanted to believe desperately that he meant what he said. she knew him. despite him being gone for so long she was sure she knew him inside and out better than anyone ever would, and she figured that if anyone was going to know when he was being genuine it was her. she'd heard that tone in his voice. she knew that he really was remorseful for the way things had been handled and what had happened and that was a start. she may not have been able to trust him yet at that point, but she could trust when he was feeling a certain emotion and remorse was definitely there for her to see. that was the best she could do for now. still she had to admit, it felt great being back in those familiar arms. as they walked back to the group, yeah, there was a little more “maggie” than there had been the past few years. it was a nice change being back even if it was in the smallest of terms. she smiled at lorenzo fighting back the urge to hug him for his words. how was it that he was being a better pseudo brother to her than her own biological brother? none of it made sense. still she knew that lore was being genuine and she was happy to have a little support. she sat down in the chair luca had grabbed for her, her long, tan legs easing over his as she made herself comfortable next to a case of beers. she grabbed herself one as the civilian mentioned a bottle and tossed on her way, watching as she caught it before she turned back to the game and, more importantly, to luca. ”not much of a girl’s night. dinner, job talk, the usual.”
-----finally the air around them seemed to ease, or at this point at least transfer from one grouping of people to the other. it seemed the more relaxed maggie got with luca the more tense of a situation there was between bella, jamie, and nameless civilian. what had her name been again? either way, she was ready to put a stop to it. ”alright bitches. time to put up or shut up.” she said before taking a sip of her beer. ”lorenzo, grab another deck from that cabinet over there and deal. you, new girl, you got money? you know what, i don’t care, sit. i plan on spanking you all.” she said with a smirk as she ran her fingers through her hair, pushing it away from her face, a common practice with those loose curls of hers.

- - - - - - ---THE TENSION I THE ROOM
could be sliced like butter. the funny thing was, everybody expected the hostility to come from maggie and luca, everybody had been betting on a fight. they however, were as happy as a couple of undetected parasites in the human body, holding hands, smiling. it was unexpected, to say the least. the real problems were coming from one of maggie's trolls and collins, his poor friend caught in the middle of it all. emmett ignored it though, more interested in what the other troll was up to. allegra would be going over a case at a mingler. emmett was thinking about everything going on waiting for a page to interrupt his casual night that went dagerous very quickly. he was thinking about miah, wondering what on earth she was doing in that god forsaken hospital bed. probably something she shouldn't be, sneaking around, sitting in another patient's room, giving her oncologist a hard time. there was always the slight pang of guilt when he wasn't with her the few times he could be, but she was really quite forceful when it came to prodding him to socialize. she was always so involved in his life, and he couldn't easily keep things from her. she just knew. he laughed a little at lorenzo's words, "really? you don't want a piece of sally?" he put on his best attempt at mocking surprise, "but i'm a dream boat." he wasn't always so easy going, but the longer he was there, the easier it got. after all, it wasn't like this was the first time he'd been around these men. and women. he snorted at jamie's cold reaction when bella, was it? tried to befriend his tagalong. allegra pointed out exactly what had gone through emmett's head, and he looked down at the table with a slight nod, still not having moved. she made quite the case, look at collin's, losing his touch. if a girl was getting to him, then h was obviously going soft, huh? it wasn't emmett's place to say anything though, no need to piss off the angry guy more. though after being a cocky son of a bitch to the rest of the room, it was amusing to see somebody call him out on his reaction. quietly he listened to the hum of voices, that was until allegra spoke again. her voice was the most familiar to his ears, mostly because he dreaded everytime she spoke at work. "she deserved it," he muttered. "it's a shame more doctor's don't put the patient first. she does't have the skill for confidence." emmett did, though, he definitely had the skills to be confident in his work. as maggie and luca made it over to the poker table, he grinned, "it's on, princess," he chucked, tossing his old hand over to be shuffled into the deck. that game had obviously become moot, oh well, luca probably would have beat him at that point, so it was just a money saver, "at least we know collins isn't going to win." it was a nice feeling to know you wouldn't be in last place. then again, everybody was a loser except for the winner. - - - - - ---A GIRL'S NIGHT GONE very wrong, that was all she could say about this. it wasn't the night she'd expected, not the night she'd been looking forward to, not the company she'd planne on, but there was no oint in whining and moping. she wasn't even disappointed really, just surprised with the outcome of events. when life gives you lemons, you paint that shit gold. good quote, good song. her hand unthinkingly went to rest on her side, right over the wound, when allegra spoke. "i'll feel like your property if you do that," her lip portruded a bit, making the perfect pouting face. she honestly wouldn't hard if allegra did stamp her with her initials, it'd be a cooler scar than the plain straight line up and down. she didn't intend on doing anything to need new stitching though, but with her luck, anything was a possibility. for all she knew collins would attack her right there in the loft, he sure was invectively hostile enough to make it a possibility. just as bella had planned on pulling her hand back, the girl beat her to it. bella stared at her for a second before laughing, "oh james, you would think my touch would hurt her. you would know." but then maggie made her intervention and bella shut her trap. she would just ignored collins anyway, he wasn't worth ruining a potentially good night. "its swell to meet you too, carly. let's go bring the house down," she smiled, her eyebrows dancing on her forehead. go civilian joining in on the poker game! bella was giving the girl props, not many people could maintain their sanity in such a situation. she abruptly stopped smiling and scowled, aiming it at jamie before smiling again to carly. may as well be flagrant. that was it though, no more acknowledging. she threw her hands in the air doing a ghetto "raise the roof" motion, "woo, poker! and please, mags, you know i got this in the bag," she trotted over to the table and scooted into the chair next to lore, "oh you, alwas so chivalrous," she rolled her eyes, occasionally taking a sneak peak at his sandwich. maybe she could snatch it from him.... but then he distracted her with his bounty question. snorting, she rolled her eyes, "yes siree, crazy is still out to get me. who knew the consequences of denying such a modest wedding proposal," she shrugged, "and some people are still trying to collect," a look of askance was shot in jamie's direction before she looked back at lorenzo.
